Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as an antimicrobial agent and an intermediate thereof in high yield, by reacting an aldimine derivative with an enolate of a carboxylic acid ester compound in the presence of a di-lower alkylaluminum halide.
CONSTITUTION: A compound shown by formula I (R1 is H, arylalkyl or imino- protecting group; R2 is H or alkyl; R3 is H, halogen or organic group) or a salt thereof is reacted with an enolate of a compound shown by formula II (R4 is H or alkyl; R5 is H or alkyl which may be replaced; R6 is ester residue) in the presence of a di-lower alkylaluminum halide (e.g. dimethylaluminum chloride) usually under cooling or at room temperature to give the aimed compound shown by formula III or a salt thereof.
