Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound useful as an agricultural and horticultural microbicide and a remedy for hepatic diseases, in high yield, by reacting a dioxycarbonylketene dimercaptide with a trihalogenoethane in the presence of a base.
CONSTITUTION: The compound of formula I is prepared by reacting (A) a ketene mercaptide of formula II (R and R1 are ester-forming organic residue; M is alkali metal atom) with (B) equimolar amount of a trihalogenoethane of formula III (Y is halogen; Z is halogen or H provided that at least one of the two Zs is H) in the presence of (C) a base such as NaOH and KOH, pref. in a mixed solvent system comprising water and DMSO, etc. The starting compound of formula II can be prepared by reacting a malonic acid ester of formula IV with CS2 in the presence of a base.
