Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the titled composition, having excellent viscosity reducing and high filling properties and capable of imparting profound beautifulness similar to that of natural marble, by blending an unsaturated polyester polymer consisting of an unsaturated polyester and polymerizable monomer at a specific weight ratio with glycidyl methacrylate in a specific proportion. CONSTITUTION:An unsaturated polyester polymer composition for artificial marble obtained by blending 10pts.wt. unsaturated polyester polymer consisting of 40-80wt.% unsaturated polyester and 20-60wt.% polymerizable monomer with 0.1-100pts.wt. glycidyl methacrylate. The above-mentioned unsaturated polyester polymer is obtained by reacting an alpha,beta-unsaturated polybasic acid or anhydride thereof with polyhydric alcohols and has 1,000-4,000mol.wt. thereof. As the polymerizable monomer, e.g. styrene or vinyltoluene, is used. The unsaturated polyester composition of this invention is capable of imparting excellent properties, such as weather, heat resistance and strength, especially fouling resistance by hair dyeing solution, to artificial marble products.
