Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic head having the frequency characteristic that the initial magnetic permeability is large and the decrease thereof in a high-fre quency range is small by forming layers of thin ferromagnetic metallic films of repetitive layers stacked with crystal grains. CONSTITUTION:A pair of substrates 1A, 1B are butt-joined via a space of a low magnetic permeability material such as SiO2 and thin films 4 of a ferromagnetic metal consisting of a 'SENDUST(R)' alloy, etc., having a high magnetic permeability are formed by sputtering, etc., on the surfaces 3 thereof facing a gap. The magnetic gap g is formed of these thin films 4. Ferrite, etc., are usually used in the case of using the head up to a high-frequency range of about 5MHz. Ceramics, etc., are used in the case of using the head at about 10MHz. The thin ferromagnetic metallic films 4 are formed by a vacuum forming technique for thin films on side wall surfaces 6 of a rectangular or trapezoidal track groove 13 bored to the surfaces 3 facing the gap in parallel with the magnetic gap g in the direction orthogonal with a surface 5 for sliding contact with a tape in a manner as to have a uniform film thickness along a ridge line 7 constituted of the surfaces 3 and surfaces 6.
