Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect and identify the end of one cycle of printing to obtain a high-level printing end signal accurately, by a method wherein, a transparent part is provided on a part of a color ink ribbon connecting to a color area of one printing cycle, and a light transmitted through the transparent part is detected. CONSTITUTION:Above an ink ribbon 1 opposed to a transfer paper, a thermal head 14 is so mounted as to be pressed toward a platen 12. A detection means 16 comprises a light detector 22 detecting a transmitted light from a light source 15 through the ink ribbon 1 via a filter 21 and having a maximum sensitivity to a white light. The output from the light detector 22 is added to an amplifying circuit 23, the output of the amplifying circuit 23 is rectified by a rectifying circuit 24 and applied to a signal generating circuit 25 to be outputted as a print end signal, and the print end signal from the signal generating circuit 25 is applied to a delaying circuit 26 to be outputted to an output terminal 27 with a fixed delay time.
