Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase the stability of recording and a recording level and to obviate the generation of defective initialization and incomplete erasing by using an alloy having a specified compsn. to form a recording layer which is provided on a substrate and is changed in phase when a light beam is projected on said layer. CONSTITUTION:The substrate 11 is formed of a material which is transparent and is less deteriorated in material properties with lapse of time, for example, glass. A protective layer 12, the recording layer 13 and a protective layer 14 are formed in this order on the substrate 11. The protective layer 12 is formed of SiO2 and the protective layer 14 is formed of a main layer 15 formed of SiO2 and an auxiliary layer 16 formed of an org. resin on the main layer 15. The recording layer 13 is formed of the alloy having the compsn. expressed by the formula. In the formula, (x) denotes atomic % of Au and is in a 0<x<=10 range. The recording layer 13 is changed in phase by the difference in the irradiation conditions of the laser beam and is capable of increasing the stability of the recording and the recording level. The defective initialization and the incomplete erasing are suppressed.
