Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a polyimide having a low water absorptivity as well as excellent heat resistance and solvent resistance inherent in polyimide, having processability and being usable for many purposes, prepared from a specified ether diamine and pyromellitic dianhydride. CONSTITUTION:This polyimide consists of repeating units of formula I. Said polyimide can be obtained by effecting ring closure through dehydration of a polyamic acid obtained by polymerizing an ether diamine of formula II, namely, bis[4-{4-(4-aminophenoxy)phenoxy}phenyl] sulfone with pyromellitic dianhydride.
