Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I [R1 is pyridinyl (lower alkyl-substituted)cycloalkyl or formula II (R3 is H, halogen, acetoxy, OH or lower alkoxy); R2 is carboxyl or tetrazonyl]. EXAMPLE:5-{ 3-( 4-Chlorophenyl )-5-isoxazolylmethylene }-3-(5-tetraz-olylmethyl) rhodanin. USE:The compound expressed by formula I has excellent blood glucose lowering action, lipid lowering action and aldose reductase hindering action and is useful as a remedy for diabetes mellitus or diabetes complication. PREPARATION:An aldehyde derivative [e.g. 3-(4-chlorophenyl)isoxazole-5- aldehyde] expressed by formula III is subjected to condensation reaction with a rhodanin derivative [e.g. 3-(tetrazole-5-yl)methylrhodanin], preferably at a molar ratio of 1:1-1.2 at 20-200 deg.C to provide the compound expressed by formula I.
