Abstract

La presente invención se refiere a proceso para fabricar cuerpos cerámicos caracterizado porque incluye las etapas de: (a) mezclar juntos para formar una sol, zirconia en polvo, alúmina hidratada y agua; (b) tratar la sol formada en la etapa (a) para producir un gel; (c) conformar la gel formada en la etapa (b) en cuerpos coherentes formados de la etapa (c), suficientemente para convertir el contenido de alúmina hidratada de los cuerpos a cristales de alfa alúmina, en la cual la mezcla formada en la etapa (a) también contiene una cantidad suficiente de sembrado cristalino fino para facilitar la transformación de alúmina hidratada a alfa alúmina cristalina bajo calentamiento, y en que al menos la mitad de la zirconia en la mezcla formada en la etapa (a) se estabiliza en la forma de cristales tetragonales por la presencia de itrio o de un óxido de metal de tierras raras.
