A HIGH-STRENGTH STEEL SHEET FOR A CONTAINER, HAVING A TENSILE STRENGTH OF 500 MPA OR MORE AND A DIFFERENCE OF 40 MPA OR LESS IN PROOF STRESS BETWEEN THE SHEET WIDTH DIRECTION AND THE ROLLED DIRECTION, IS OBTAINED BY SUBJECTING STEEL TO HOT ROLLING AT A FINISHING TEMPERATURE (HOT ROLLING FINISHING TEMPERATURE) OF (AR3 TRANSFORMATION TEMPERATURE-30)°C OR MORE AND AT A COILING TEMPERATURE OF 400°C TO 750°C, THE STEEL CONTAINING, ON THE BASIS OF MASS PERCENT, 0.001-0.10% C, 0.04% OR LESS SI, 0.1-1.2% MN, 0.10% OR LESS S, 0.001-0.100% A1, 0.10% OR LESS N, AND 0.007-0.100% P, THE BALANCE BEING FE AND INCIDENTAL IMPURITIES; AND SUBJECTING THE STEEL TO PICKLING, COLD ROLLING, SUBSEQUENTLY CONTINUOUS ANNEALING, AND SUBSEQUENTLY SECOND COLD ROLLING WITH A REDUCTION RATIO OF 10% OR MORE AND LESS THAN 20%.
