Abstract

The invention provides high-strength steel sheets for cans with excellent flangeability and methods for manufacturing such steel sheets. The steel includes, by mass%, C: not less than 0.001% and less than 0.040%, Si: not less than 0.003% and not more than 0.100%, Mn: not less than 0.10% and not more than 0.60%, P: not less than 0.001% and not more than 0.100%, S: not less than 0.001% and not more than 0.020%, Al: not less than 0.005% and not more than 0.100%, and N: more than 0.0130% and not more than 0.0170%, the balance being Fe and inevitable impurities. The (N total - N as AlN) content is not less than 0.0100% and not more than 0.0160% (wherein N total is the total amount of nitrogen and N as AlN is the amount of nitrogen present as AlN). The average plastic strain ratio, namely, the average r-value is more than 1.0. The steel sheet is obtained by hot rolling the steel, coiling the rolled sheet at less than 630?C, cold rolling the steel sheet with a reduction of not less than 91.5%, annealing the steel sheet, and secondarily cold rolling the steel sheet with a reduction of not more than 20%.
