Abstract
Den foreliggende oppfinnelsen angår et Mycobacterium ulcerans-virulensplasmid, pMUM001, og spesielt en klynge av gener som bæres av dette plasmidet og som koder polyketidsyntetaser (PKSs) og polyketidmodifiserende enzymer som er nødvendige og tilstrekkelige for mykolaktonbiosyntese. Mer spesielt angår oppfinnelsen nye rensede eller isolerte polypeptider, polynukleotider som koder slike polypeptider, fremgangsmåter for fremstilling av slike polypeptider, antistoffer som er utviklet mot disse polypeptidene, anvendelsen av slike polynukleotider og polypeptider i diagnostiske metoder, sett, vaksiner, terapi og fremstillingen av mykolaktonderivater eller nye polyketider ved kombinatorisk syntese.
