本発明は新規な電荷注入補助材及びそれを含有する有機エレク ト 口ルミ ネッセンス素子に関するものである。 さらに詳しく いえば、 本発明は、 電荷注入性を高めることが可能なスチルベン誘導体、 ジ スチ リ ルァ リ ーレ ン誘導体又は ト リ ススチリ ルァ リ ーレン誘導体か らなる電荷注入補助材、 及び該電荷注入補助材を含有する印加電圧 が低く、 かつ発光効率が高い上、 寿命の長い有機ェレク トロルミ ネ ッセンス素子に関するものである。
背景技術
近年、 有機電子素子である電子写真感光体, 有機エレク トロルミ ネッセンス素子 (有機 E L素子と略称するこ ともある。 ) , 有機ト ランジス夕, 有機センサーなどにおいて、 電極または電荷発生層よ り電荷を輸送する層へ、 電荷を安定かつ効率よく注入できるものが 望まれている。 このように電荷を安定かつ効率よく注入できる素子 として、 P型光導電体層と支持基板の間にカーボンブラッ クを分散 した正孔注入層を用いたもの (特公昭 5 9 - 1 2 8 4 8号公報) 、 電荷輸送層を 2分割し電荷発生層側の電荷輸送層にジスチリル化合 物を分散したポリマー層を構成し、 電荷注入特性を向上させたもの (特開平 3 — 1 5 7 6 6 0号公報) などが挙げられる。 しかし、 こ れらの素子は、 新たに一層を素子構成に加える必要があり素子の製 造が繁雑になっていた。
また、 有機 E L素子において、 芳香族 3級ァミ ンからなる注入層 を用いるこ とにより、 有機発光層への正孔注入の効率を挙げる技術 (特開昭 6 3 - 2 9 5 6 9 5号公報) が開示されている。 しかし、 この素子の電力変換効率や発光効率は充分に満足するものではなく さ らに素子の電力変換効率や発光効率を上げるため、 より低電圧で 駆動する素子が必要とされる。
また、 有機 E L素子において、 正孔輸送材料であり、 発光材であ るスチリルアミ ン誘導体と電子輸送材であるォキサジァゾール誘導 体を混合し発光層とする技術 (特開平 2 — 2 5 0 2 9 2号公報) が 開示されている。 しかしながら、 この技術においては、 スチリルァ ミ ンからなる発光層に電子注入性を付与するためォキサジァゾール 誘導体を混合したものであり、 発光層 (多くの場合、 非スチリルァ ミ ン層である。 ) 又は電子輸送層にスチリルアミ ンを微量添加する ことにより、 電荷注入性を向上させるような電荷注入補助材の機能 についてはなんら開示されていない。
一方、 8 —ヒ ドロキシキノ リ ンアルミニウム錯体をホス トとして, これに微量蛍光物質をドープした有機発光層を有する素子 (特開昭 6 3 - 2 6 4 6 9 2号公報) 、 8 — ヒ ドロキシキノ リ ンアルミニゥ ム錯体をホス トとして、 これにキナク リ ドン系色素を ドープした有 機発光層を有する素子 (特開平 3 - 2 5 5 1 9 0号公報) が知られ ているが、 これらの ドーパン トは電荷注入補助材としては作用しな い。
発明の開示
そこで、 本発明者らは、 有機電子素子における発光層などの機能 層に微量添加することにより、 電荷注入性を高めうる電荷注入補助 材を開発すべく鋭意研究を重ねた結果、 電子供与性を有するスチル ベン誘導体、 ジスチリルァリーレン誘導体又はト リススチリルァ リ 一レ ン誘導体が電荷注入補助材として有用であることを見出すとと もに、 この電荷注入補助材を含有し、 かつ発光層のエネルギーギヤ ップが該電荷注入補助材のエネルギーギヤ ップより大きな有機エレ ク トロルミ ネッセンス素子は印加電圧が低く、 かつ発光効率が高い 上、 寿命が長いことを見出した。 本発明はかかる知見に基づいて完 成したものである。
すなわち、 本発明は、 正孔を輸送する有機物からなる機能層へそ の外部層より正孔注入を行う有機電子素子において、 該機能層に添 加するスチルベン誘導体、 ジスチリルァ リ ーレン誘導体又は ト リ ス スチリルァリーレン誘導体からなる電荷注入補助材を提供するもの である。
また、 本発明は、 上記電荷注入補助材を含有し、 該電荷注入補助 材のイオン化エネルギーが発光層のイオン化エネルギーより小さい こ とを特徴とする有機エレク トロルミ ネッセンス素子をも提供する ものである。

発明を実施するための最良の形態
本発明の電荷注入補助材は、 電荷を輸送する機能層に外部層より 正孔を注入する際、 同じ電界強度でより電荷注入性を向上させ、 よ り多く の電荷量を注入するために用いるものである。 この電荷注入 補助材の有機物からなる機能層への添加量は、 好ま しく は機能層の 重量の 1 9重量%以下、 特に好ましく は 0. 0 5〜 9重量%である。
したがって、 電荷注入補助材は、 電荷を輸送する材料、 すなわち 感光体においては電荷輸送材、 有機 E L素子においては発光材、 有 機トランジスターにおいては半導体とは別物であり、 これら電荷を 輸送する材料が主成分からなる上記機能層に添加して電荷注入性の 向上を目的とする材料である。
また、 機能層とは、 正孔注入層, 正孔輸送層, 発光層や電子障壁 層のように正孔を輸送または注入する機能を保有する層のこ とであ ο
ここで、 電荷注入補助材の機能を第 1 図に基づいて説明する。 第 1 図は、 有機電子素子のエネルギーレベルを示す図である。 ェ ネルギ一レベル 1 4から 1 2へ正孔を注入する場合は、 1 2 と 1 4 のエネルギー差によるエネルギーレベル障壁を超えなくてはならな い。 今、 こ こに、 1 3のレベルを有する電荷注入補助材を入れると, 正孔がより易しく 1 3のレベルに注入される。 さらに、 微量の電荷 注入補助材が分散されているため、 正孔が 1 3のレベル内を移動す るより 1 2のレベルに移動することが優先される。 これにより、 電 荷注入性は向上する。 本発明の材料は、 この電荷注入補助機能が優 れている。
本発明の電荷注入補助材として用いられるスチルベン誘導体とは、 少なく とも 2つの芳香族環を有し、 これら芳香族環をビニル基また は置換されたビニル基により結合して構成された化合物であり、 上 記芳香族環またはビニル基のいずれかに電子供与性基を有するもの である。 また、 ジスチ リ ルァ リ ーレン誘導体とは、 1つのァ リ ーレン基に 2つの芳香族環がビニル基または置換ビニル基を介して結合した化 合物であり、 電子供与性基を有するものである。
さらに、 ト リススチリルァリーレン誘導体とは、 1つの三価の芳 香族環基に 3つの芳香族環がビニル基または置換ビニル基を介して 結合した化合物であり、 電子供与性基を有するものである。
電子供与性基を分子骨格に有する前記誘導体において電子供与性 基とは、 好ま しく は炭素数 1〜 1 0のアルコキシ基、 炭素数 6〜 1 0のァリールォキシ基および炭素数 1〜 3 0の炭化水素基を有す るァ ミ ノ基を示す。
本発明の上記誘導体において、 特に好ましいものは下記一般式 ( I ) 〜 (VII)で表される化合物であり、 ( I ) および (II) はス チルベン誘導体、 (III)および (IV) はジスチリルァリーレン誘導 体、 ( V) 〜 (VII)は ト リ ススチリ ルァ リ 一レン誘導体を表す。

などが挙げられる。 上記 ( I ) 〜 (V I I )の電荷注入補助材の中で特に好ま しいものは. ( I I I )及び(I V)のジスチリルァリーレン誘導体であり、 特に顕著な 電荷注入補助としての機能を有する。
ここで、 電荷注入補助材を有機 E L素子に用いた場合の原理につ いて説明する。 第 2図は、 陽極/発光層 陰極からなる有機 E L素 子における電荷注入補助材の原理を説明するためのエネルギーレべ ル図である。
電荷のうち正孔は電界印加の下で、 2 3の電荷注入補助材の価電 子レベルに注入される。 これは、 発光層の価電子レベルに注入され るより も容易なためである。 次いで、 電荷注入補助材の価電子レべ ル間を陰極方向に移動しょう とするが、 電荷注入補助材の分子間間 隔が離れているため、 発光層の価電子レベルに注入される。 発光層 の価電子レベルに到達した正孔は、 価電子レベルを移動し、 陰極か ら注入された伝導レベルを移動する電子と再結合する。
このように、 本発明の電荷注入補助材は一般に発光層のイオン化 エネルギーより も小さ く、 発光層への正孔注入を容易にすることが わかる。
電荷注入補助材の中には、 エネルギーギヤ ップが発光層のエネル ギ一ギャ ップより も小さいものが存在する。 この場合は、 発光層に おいて再結合した電荷により生成された励起状態が電荷注入補助材 へ移動する。
微量分散された本発明の電荷注入補助材は高い蛍光収率を有する ため、 本発明の電荷注入補助材を用いた E L素子の量子収率は 2倍 以上に高く なる場合がある。
本発明の電荷注入補助材は、 以上のように素子の低電圧化および 量子収率の向上を可能にする。 また、 本発明の電荷注入補助材は、 特に E L素子の電圧安定化, 輝度安定化においても驚くべきほど顕 著な効果がある。
ここで、 注意しておくべきことは、 価電子レベル内の移動を容易 にするため電荷注入補助材の添加量を微量にすることが好ま しい。 上記電荷注入補助材を用いた有機 E L素子としては、 前記の構成 の他に次の構成が可能である。
① 陽極 Z正孔注入層 Z発光層 陰極
② 陽極 Z正孔注入層 Z発光曆 Z電子注入層 Z陰極
③ 陽極/発光層/電子注入層 陰極
④ 陽極 Z有機半導体層 Z発光層 Z陰極
⑤ 陽極 Z有機半導体層 Z電子障壁層/発光層 陰極
⑥ 陽極 正孔注入層/発光層ノ付着改善層 陰極
こ こで、 上記発光層, 正孔注入層または有機半導体層に本発明の 電荷注入補助材を添加することにより、 目的の素子を得ることがで さる。 .
上記素子構成において、 電荷注入補助材が発光材料 (発光層のホ ス ト物質) と類似の分子構造をもつ場合があるが、 何ら問題を生じ ることはない。 ここで、 ホス ト材料は発光材料の 8 1 重量%以上を 占め、 電荷注入補助材は発光材料の 1 9重量%以下が好ま しく、 特 に 0. 5〜 5重量%の範囲が好ま しい。 また、 発光材料のイオン化工 ネルギ一より、 電荷注入補助材のイオン化エネルギーは小さいこと が特に好ま しい。
さ らに、 発光材料のイオン化エネルギーより電荷注入補助材のィ ォン化エネルギーは、 エネルギー差が 0. 1 e V以上であるこ とが特 に好ま しい。
また、 本発明の電荷注入補助材には、 電荷注入の補助効果に加え、
1 — 蛍光性の ドーパン ト としても機能するものがある。 この ドーパン ト とは、 ホス ト材料よりなる領域で正孔と電子が再結合した際に、 そ れに感応して光を発する物質のことである。
本発明はまた、 上記電荷注入補助材を含有し、 かつ発光層のエネ ルギーギヤ ップが該電荷注入補助材のエネルギーギヤ ップより大き い有機 E L素子をも提供するものである。 この有機 E L素子は、 該 電荷注入補助材のエネルギーギャ ップが、 発光層のエネルギーギヤ ップより 0. 1 e V以上小さいものが好ましく、 また、 該電荷注入補 助材が、 発光層において正孔と電子とが再結合するこ とにより励起 され、 光を発するものが好適である。 このような本発明の有機 E L 素子は印加電圧が低く、 かつ発光効率が高い上、 長寿命である特性 を有している。
本発明の電荷注入補助材は、 有機電子素子の機能層に添加される が、 該機能層とは、 有機電子素子が有機 E L素子の場合、 上記構成 ①, ②及び⑥においては正孔注入層又は発光層を、 構成③において は発光層を、 構成④においては有機半導体層又は発光層を、 構成⑤ においては有機半導体層, 電子障壁層又は発光層を示す。
上記有機 E L素子における発光層としては、 通常の発光層と同様 に、 ( a ) 注入機能 (電圧印加時に、 陽極または正孔注入層より正 孔を注入可能であり、 かつ陰極または電子注入層より電子を注入可 能である。 ) , ( b ) 輸送機能 (正孔および電子を電界の力により 移動させるこ とが可能である。 ) , ( c ) 発光機能 (正孔と電子の 再結合の場を提供し、 発光させることが可能である。 ) を有するも のである。 この層の厚さは特に制限はなく、 適宜状況に応じて決定 するこ とができるが、 好ま しく は 1 n m〜 1 0 ^ m、 特に好ま しく は 5 n m〜 5 mでめる。 こ こで、 好ま しい発光材料 (ホス ト材料) として、 一般式 ( IX) Y 1 Y 3

このように共役系を切る二価の基を用いる理由は、 上記で示され る Aあるいは Bを形成する化合物 (即ち、 一般式 (IX) の化合物) を、 単独で本発明の有機 E L素子として用いた場合に得られる E L 発光色と、 一般式 (X) で表わされる化合物を本発明の有機 E L素 子として用いた場合に得られる E L発光色とが変わらぬようにする ためである。 つまり、 一般式 (IX) 又は一般式 (X) で表わされる 化合物を用いた発光層が、 短波長化あるいは長波長化したりするこ とはないようにするためである。 また、 共役系を切る二価基で接続 するとガラス転移温度 (T g ) は、 上昇することが確認でき、 均一 なピンホールフ リ一の微結晶あるいはァモルファス性薄膜が得られ ることができ、 発光均一性を向上させている。 更に、 共役系を切る 二価基で結合していることにより、 E L発光が長波長化するこ とな く、 また、 合成あるいは精製が容易にできる長所を備えている。 さらに、 発光材料 (ホス ト材料) の好ましいものとして、 8 — ヒ ドロキシキノ リ ン、 又はその誘導体の金属錯体を挙げることができ る。 具体的には、 ォキシン (一般に 8 —キノ リ ノールまたは 8 —ヒ ドロキシキフ リ ン) のキレー トを含む金属キレー トォキシノイ ド化 合物である。 このような化合物は高水準の性能を示し、 容易に薄膜 形態に成形される。 ォキシノィ ド化合物の例は下記構造式を満たす るものである。

こ こで、 M tで表される金属は、 一価, 二価または三価の金属、 例えばリチウム, ナ ト リ ウムまたはカ リウム等のアルカ リ金属、 マ グネシゥ厶またはカルシウム等のアル力 リ土類金属、 あるいはホウ 素またはアルミニウム等の土類金属である。
一般に有用なキレー ト化合物であると知られている一価, 二価ま たは三価の金属はいずれも使用することができる。
また、 Zは、 少なく とも 2以上の縮合芳香族環の一方がァゾ一ル またはァジンからなる複素環を形成させる原子を示す。 ここで、 も し必要であれば、 上記縮合芳香族環に他の異なる環を付加すること が可能である。 また、 機能上の改善が無いまま嵩ばつた分子を付加 することを回避するため、 Zで示される原子の数は 1 8以下にする こ とが好ま しい。

上記発光層の形成方法としては、 例えば蒸着法, ス ピンコー ト法, キャ ス ト法, L B法などの公知の方法により薄膜化するこ とにより 形成することができるが、 特に分子堆積膜であることが好ま しい。 こ こで、 分子堆積膜とは、 該化合物の気相状態から沈着され形成さ れた薄膜や、 該化合物の溶融状態または液相状態から固体化され形 成された膜のこ とである。 通常、 この分子堆積膜は L B法により形 成された薄膜 (分子累積膜) と凝集構造, 高次構造の相違や、 それ に起因する機能的な相違により区別することができる。
また、 上記発光層は樹脂などの結着材と共に溶剤に溶かして溶液 とした後、 これをスピンコー ト法などにより薄膜化して形成するこ とができる。
このようにして形成された発光層の膜厚については特に制限はな く、 適宜状況に応じて選ぶことができるが、 好ま しく は 1 n m〜 1 0 〃 m、 特に好ましく は 5 n m〜 5 〃 mの範囲がよい。
前記一般式 (IX) 〜 (XI) で表される発光層の材料としては以下 の化合物が挙げられる。

本発明の有機 E L素子における陽極としては、 仕事関数の大きい ( 4 e V以上) 金属, 合金, 電気伝導性化合物およびこれらの混合 物を電極物質とするものが好ましく用いられる。 このような電極物 質の具体例としては、 A uなどの金属, C u l , I T 0, S n 02 , Z n 0などの誘電性透明材料が挙げられる。 該陽極は、 これらの電 極物質を蒸着やスパッタ リ ングなどの方法により、 薄膜を形成させ るこ とにより作製することができる。 この電極より発光を取り出す 場合には、 透過率を 1 0 %より大き くすることが望ま しく、 また、 電極としてのシー ト抵抗は数百 以下が好ま しい。 さらに膜厚 は材料にもよるが、 通常 1 O nm〜 l m, 特に 1 0〜 2 0 nmの 範囲が好ましい。
一方、 陰極としては、 仕事関数の小さい ( 4 e V以下) 金属, 合 金, 電気伝導性化合物およびこれらの混合物を電極物質とするもの が用いられる。 このような電極物質の具体例としては、 ナ ト リウム, ナ ト リ ウム一カ リ ウム合金, マグネシウム, リチウム, マグネシゥ 厶 ·銀合金, A 1 1 02 , ィンジゥム, 希土類金属などが挙げ られる。 該陰極はこれらの電極物質を蒸着やスパッタ リ ングなどの 方法により、 薄膜を形成させることにより、 作製することができる c また、 電極としてのシー ト抵抗は数百 以下が好ま しく、 膜厚 は通常 1 O nm〜 l m, 特に 5 0〜 2 0 O nmの範囲が好ま しい c なお、 本発明の素子においては、 特に規定しないが、 該陽極または 陰極のいずれか一方が透明または半透明であることが発光を透過し、 取り出す効率がよいので好ま しい。
次に、 正孔注入層は、 必ずしも該素子に必要なものではないが、 発光性能の向上のため用いた方が好ま しいものである。 この正孔注 入層としては、 より低い電界で正孔を発光層に輸送する材料が好ま しく、 さらに正孔の移動度が、 例えば 1 04 〜 1 0 6 V/ c mの電 界印加時に、 少なく とも 1 0 _6 c m2 · 秒であればなお好まし い。 また、 電子を発光層内に留めておくため、 発光層と陽極の間に は電子障壁層を用いることができる。
このような正孔注入材料については、 前記の好ま しい性質を有す るものであれば特に制限はなく、 従来、 光導伝材料において、 正孔 の電荷輸送材として慣用されているものや E L素子の正孔注入層に 使用される公知のものの中から任意のものを選択して用いるこ とが できる。

合成例 1 ( B C ζ V B iの合成)

D M S 02 0 ミ リ リ ツ トルに溶解し、 カ リ ウム一 t 一ブ トキシ ド ( t B u 0 K ) 1. 0 gを加えた。 その後、 N—ェチルカルバゾール 一 3—カルボキシアルデヒ ド 2. 0 gを加え、 室温で 5時間攪拌した, 得られた反応物ヘメ夕ノール 1 0 0 ミ リ リ ツ トルを加た結果、 黄 色の粉末が析出した。 この粉末に I 2 を含むベンゼン溶液を加え再 結晶させたところ、 0.8 gの黄色の粉末を得た。

得られた反応物へメタノール 5 0 ミ リ リ ッ トルを加えたのち、 析 出してきた黄色粉末をろ取した。 この沈澱をシリ カゲルカラム精製 を行い、 さ らに トルエンにて再結晶したところ、 黄色粉末 1. 5 が 得られた。 このものの融点は 272. 5〜 2 74. 5 °Cであった。

実施例 1〜 8
2 5 mm X 7 5 mm x 1. 1 mmのガラス基板 (HOYA社製, NA 4 0 ) 上に、 I TOを蒸着法にて 1 0 0 nmの厚さで製膜した もの (HOYA製) を透明支持基板とした。 なお、 この基板は、 ィ ソプロピルアルコール中で 5分間超音波洗浄後、 窒素を吹きつけて 乾燥し、 U Vオゾン洗浄 (U V 3 0 0 , サムコイ ンターナショナル 社製) を 1 0分間行ったものである。
この透明支持基板上に市販の蒸着装置 (日本真空技術 (株) 製) の基板ホルダーに固定し、 モリブデン製抵抗加熱ボー トに N, N' 一 ビス ( 3—メチルフエ二ル) 一 N, Ν' ージフエニル ( 1, 1 ' — ビフエ二ル) 一 4 , 4 ' ージァ ミ ン (TPD) を 2 0 0 m g入れ. 他のモリブデン製抵抗加熱ボー トに 4 , 4 ' —ビス ( 2, 2 ' —ジ フ エ二ルビニル) ビフエ二ル (D PV B i ) を 2 0 O m gを入れ、 さ らに他のモリブデン製抵抗加熱ボー 卜に電荷注入補助材である化 合物 (A) (第 1表に示す) を 2 0 O m gを入れ、 真空槽を I X 1 0— 4P aまで減圧した。 その後 TP Dの入った前記ボー トを 2 1 5〜 2 2 0 °Cまで加熱し、 蒸着速度 0. 1〜0. 3 n mZ秒で透明 支持基板上に蒸着して、 膜厚 6 0 nmの正孔注入層を製膜させた。 このとき、 基板の温度は室温であった。 これを真空槽より取り出す ことなく、 正孔注入層に D PVB iをホス ト材料として 4 O nm積 層した。 このとき同時に化合物 (A) のボー トを加熱し、 発光層に 化合物 (A) を混合した。 このときの蒸着速度は D P V B i の蒸着 速度 (第 2表に示す (B) ) に対して、 (A) の蒸着速度を (C) (第 2表に示す) とした。 従って、 混合比 〔ホス ト材料に対する化 合物 (A) の割合〕 は (D) (第 2表に示す) となった。
その後、 真空槽を大気圧に戻し、 新たにモリブデン製抵抗加熱ボ ― トに接着層の材料である 8—ヒ ドロキシキノ リ ン ' アルミニウム 錯体を入れ、 さらにモリブデン製抵抗加熱ボー トにマグネシウムリ ボン 1 gを入れタングステン製バスケッ トに銀ワイヤーを 5 0 0 m g入れて、 真空槽を 1 X 1 0—4P aまで減圧した。
次いで、 蒸着速度 0. 0 1〜0. 0 3 n mZ秒で 8— ヒ ドロキシキノ リ ン , アルミニウム錯体を蒸着し接着層を 2 0 nm形成した。 さら に、 銀を蒸着速度 0. 1 n mZ秒, マグネシウムを蒸着速度 1.4 n m ノ秒で同時蒸着して銀 : マグネシウム混合電極を陰極とした。 膜厚 は 1 5 0 n mであった。
得られた素子に、 電圧 7 Vを印加し、 電流量, 素子の輝度を測定 して発光効率を算出した。 得られた結果を第 2表に示す。

第 2表から分かるように、 (A) を混合した実施例は、 比較例よ り も電流量が多く、 電荷注入性が向上している。 これは、 素子の低 電圧化に他ならない。
比較例 1
( A) を混合しなかった以外は、 実施例 1 と同様にして素子を作 製した。
得られた発光ピーク波長は、 4 7 2 n mの単一ピークであった。 実施例 9
( A) を D PAVB i とし、 かつ D PVB i中の D PAVB iの 混合率を 3重量%、 発光層 (D PAVB i と D PVB i の混合層) の膜厚を 5 5 n m、 正孔注入層の膜厚を 4 5 n mとした以外は、 実 施例 1 と同様にして素子を作製した。
得られた素子に、 電圧 8 Vを印加したところ、 電流量 7 mAZ c m2 , 輝度 4 0 0 c d/m2 の発光 (ピーク波長 : 4 9 4 nm) を得た。 得られた発光は、 4 6 2 n m , 4 9 4 n mおよび 5 3 4 n mの 3つのピークを持つスペク トルであった。 これは、
D P AV B i が発光していることを示している。 さらに、 発光効率 は 2. 2ル一メ ン ZWであり、 比較例に比して非常に優れている。 ま た、 電荷注入補助材が場合によって蛍光性ドーピングの効果を持つ ことも示している。

ホス ト材料として D P V B i , 電荷注入補助材料の代わりに 3 — ( 2 ' 一べンゾチアゾリ ル) 一 7 —ジェチルァ ミ ノ クマ リ ン ( K U 7 : 特開昭 6 3 - 2 6 4 6 9 2号公報) を用い、 混合率を 2重量% とした以外は実施例 1 と同様にして素子を作製した。
得られた素子に、 電圧 7 Vを印加したところ、 電流量 5 mA/ c m2 , 輝度 1 5 0 c d /m2 の綠色発光を得た。
ここで、 比較例 2 , 3 と実施例 1 0を比較した結果、 本発明の電 荷注入補助材を含有する素子は、 低電圧化、 高発光効率化を達成し ていることが分かる。 また、 比較例 3においてクマリ ン 7 (K U 7 ) をドーパン トとする素子は印加電荷が高くなっている。

実施例 1 4及び 1 5で得られた素子に、 乾燥窒素雰囲気下で第 5 表に示す初期電圧を印加し、 一定電流の条件にて連続駆動を行った ところ、 第 5表に示す半減寿命が得られ、 長寿命化が達成された。 この長寿命化は、 電荷注入補助材の中で、 特に発光層のエネルギー ギヤ ップより小さいエネルギーギヤ ップをもつものに見られる。 第 5表に電荷注入補助材のエネルギーギヤ ップ及びイオン化エネルギ

また、 第 5表で分かるように、 素子の電圧上昇は小さい。 従来の 素子においては、 3〜 4 Vの駆動電圧上昇が経時変化として生じる のに対し、 実施例 1 7及び 1 8では、 それぞれ 1. 6 V及び 1 . 9 Vと 上昇が小さい。 これは優れた安定性を示しているこ とになる。 産業上の利用可能性
本発明の電荷注入補助材は電荷注入性を効果的に高めることがで き、 電子写真感光体, 有機 E L素子などの各種有機電子素子に好適 に用レヽりれる。
また、 該電荷注入補助材を含有する本発明の有機 E L素子は印加 電圧が低く、 かつ発光効率が高い上、 寿命が長いという特性を有し ている。

Claims

請求の範囲
( 1 ) 正孔を輸送する有機物からなる機能層へその外部層より正孔 注入を行う有機電子素子において、 該機能層に添加するスチルベン 誘導体、 ジスチリルァリーレン誘導体又は ト リススチリルァリーレ ン誘導体からなる電荷注入補助材。
( 2 ) 該有機電子素子が有機ェレク トロルミ ネッセ ンス素子である 請求項 1 の電荷注入補助材。
( 3 ) 該機能層が発光層または正孔注入層である請求項 2の電荷注 入補助材。
( 4 ) 該スチルペン誘導体, ジスチリルァリーレン誘導体又は ト リ ススチリルァリーレン誘導体が少なく とも一^ ^の電子供与性基を有 するものである請求項 3の電荷注入補助材。
( 5 ) 該電子供与性基が炭素数 1 〜 1 0のアルキル基, 炭素数 6〜 2 0のァリ一ルォキシ基又は炭素数 1 〜 3 0の炭化水素基を有する ァ ミ ノ基から選ばれたものである請求項 4の電荷注入補助材。

R 13〜R 18, R 1 S〜R 24及び R 25〜R はそれぞれにおいてたがい に同一であっても異なっていてもよく、 D7 〜D 12はそれぞれ電子 供与性基で置換された炭素数 6〜 2 0のァリール基, チェニル基, ビチェニル基又は炭素数 1 0〜 3 0の縮合多環族基を示し、 D7 〜 D 9 及び D 1 °と D 11はそれぞれにおいてたがいに同一であっても異 なっていてもよい。 こ こで、 A r 5 〜 1~ 1 0及び1¾ 1 3〜1¾ 3。はそれ ぞれ無置換でもよいし、 炭素数 1〜 1 0のアルキル基、 炭素数 1 〜 1 0のアルコキシ基、 炭素数 6〜 1 0のァリールォキシ基、 炭素数 7〜 1 0のァリールアルキル基又は炭素数 1 〜 2 0の炭化水素基を 有するァ ミ ノ基で置換されていてもよい。 )

( 9 ) 有機ェレク トロルミ ネッセンス素子において、 蛍光性の ドー パン トとしても機能する請求項 1記載の電荷注入補助材。
( 10) 請求項 2〜 9のいずれかに記載の電荷注入補助材を発光層内 に含有し、 かつ該電荷注入補助材のイオン化エネルギーが発光層の イオン化エネルギーより も小さいことを特徴とする有機ェレク ト口 ルミ ネッセンス素子。
( 1 1 ) 請求項 1 〜 9のいずれかに記載の電荷注入補助材を含有し、 かつ発光層のエネルギーギヤ ップが該電荷注入補助材のエネルギー ギヤ ップが発光層のエネルギーギヤ ップょり小さい請求項 1 0 の素 子。
( 12) 電荷注入補助材が、 発光層において正孔と電子とが再結合す るこ とにより励起され、 光を発する請求項 1 1記載の有機ェレク ト 口ルミ ネッセンス素子。
( 13) 電荷注入補助材のエネルギーギャップが、 発光層のエネルギ —ギャ ップより 0. 1 e V以上小さい請求項 1 1記載の有機エレク ト 口ルミ ネッセンス素子。
( 14) 請求項 2〜 9のいずれかに記載の電荷注入補助材を含有する 有機ェレク トロルミ ネッセンス素子であってその含有量が 9重量% 以下であることを特徴とする有機ェレク トロルミ ネッセンス素子。
