明細書 光ピ ッ ク ア ッ プ装置 技術分野 本発明は、 光記録媒体に対する光の照射及び戻り光の検出を行う光 ビッ ク ア ッ プ装置に関する。
背景技術 光デ ィ ス ク等の光記録媒体に記録された信号を読み出す際には、 こ の光記録媒体に レーザ光を照射 して得られる戻り光の検出を行う 光ピッ ク ァ ッ プ装置が用い られている。
こ の光ピ ッ ク ア ッ プ装置の一般的な構成を説明する。 図 1 に示す 光ピ ッ ク ア ッ プ装置は、 例えばコ ンパ ク ト デ ィ ス ク の よ う な光デ ィ ス ク 6 を再生する際に用いられる光ビッ ク ア ツ プ装置である。 光源 である レーザダイ ォ一 ド 1 から出射された レーザ光が例えば P偏光 つま り電気べク ト ル の方向が図 1 の紙面に平行な直線偏光である場 台、 該 レーザ光は偏光ビー ム スプ リ ッ タ (以下 P B S という。 ) 2 を透過 してコ リ メ ータ レ ン ズ 3 に入射する。 こ のコ リ メ ータ レ ン ズ 3 は、 上記レー ザ光を対物レ ン ズ 5 の入射睡ょ り も大きい平行光束 とする。 コ リ メ一タ レ ンズ 3 で平行光束と されたレーザ光は、 1 4 波長板 4 に よ り円偏光と さ れて対物レ ン ズ 5 に入射する。 対物レ ン ズ 5 は、 上記円偏光の レーザ光を光ディ ス ク 6 の信号記録面に集 光する。 光ディ ス ク 6 の信号記録面で反射された戻り光は、 対物レ ン ズ 5 に よ り再び平行光束と され、 1 Z 4 波長板 4 に入射する。 1 / 4波長板 4 は、 入射した戻り光を S偏光、 つ ま り霪気べク ト ルの 方向が図 1 の紙面に垂直な直線偏光とする。 こ の S偏光と された レ 一ザ光は、 コ リ メ ー タ レ ン ズ 3 を介して P B S 2 に入射する。 P B S 2 は入射した S偏光のレーザ光を光検出器と なる フ ォ ト ディ テ ク 夕 7 の光集光面に照射する。 フ ォ ト ディ テ ク タ 7 は、 光集光面に照 射された光量に応じた電気信号を出力する。
次に、 図 2 に示す光ピ ッ ク ア ッ プ装置は、 例えば光磁気デ ィ ス ク から再生信号を読み出す際に用い られる光ビッ ク ア ッ プ装置である c 光源である レーザダイ オー ド 1 1 から出射された レーザ光束は、 グ レ ー テ ィ ン グ 1 2 に よ っ て 3 ビー ム と さ れ、 コ リ メ ー タ レ ン ズ 1 3 によ っ て平行光束と されてから ビ一ム ス プ リ ッ 夕 1 4 に入射する。 ビーム ス プ リ ッ タ 1 4 は、 上記レーザ光束を透過させる。 こ の ビー ム スプ リ ッ タ 1 4 を透過した上記平行な レーザ光束は、 立ち上げ ミ ラ ー 1 5 で 9 0度折り曲げられ、 対物レ ン ズ 1 6 に達する。 対物レ ン ズ 1 6 は、 上記平行な レーザ光束を集光してデ ィ ス ク上の信号圮 録面に照射する。
ディ ス ク上の信号記録面で反射された戻り光は、 対物レ ン ズ 1 6 で再び平行光束と され、 ビーム ス プリ ッ タ 1 4 で反射され、 ゥ オ ラ ス ト ン プ リ ズ ム 1 7 、 コ リ メ ー タ レ ン ズ 1 8 、 マ ルチ レ ン ズ 1 9 を 介して光検出器である フ ォ トディ テク タ 2 0 に導かれる。
ゥ ォ ラ ス ト ン プ リ ズム 1 7 は、 上記戻り光をそれぞれ直線偏光で ある P偏光と S偏光に角度分離する。 コ リ メ ータ レ ン ズ 1 8 は、 角 度分離された^り光を平行光束とする。 そ して、 この戻り光は、 マ ル チ レ ン ズ 1 9 に よ り フ ォ ト デ ィ テ ク タ 2 0 上 に 2 ス ポ ッ 卜 に分離 されて集光される。 こ こで、 上記戻り光は、 P偏光と S偏光に空間 分離される こ と にな る。 こ の P偏光と S偏光の差動信号が光磁気信 号の R F信号となる。 また、 こ の P偏光と S偏光の和信号が C D等 のエ ン ボ ス の R F i言号及びサーボ信号と して使われる。
と こ ろで、 情報の増大する現在、 コ ン ピュ ー タ の記録装匱、 コ ン パ ク ト デ ィ ス ク 、 ビデ ィ ォ デ ィ ス ク 等の音楽、 画像情報のパ ッ ケ一 ジ メ デ ィ ァ と し ての光デ ィ ス ク は広範囲に普及 してい る が、 今後さ らなる普及を拡大す ためには、 よ り小型で、 よ り安価な光 ピッ ク ア ッ プ装置が望まれている。 し力 し、 従来の光 ピッ ク ア ッ プ装置で は、 上述したよ う に部品点数が多 く 、 光検出器の調整が必要であ り、 安定したサ一 ボ信号が得られないため、 小型化と低価格化を実現で き なか った。
本発明は、 部品点数を削減し、 光検出器の調整を不要と し、 かつ 安定したサーボ信号を得られ、 よ つて小型化と低価格化を実現でき る光学 ピ ッ ク ア ッ プ装置の提供を目的とする。 発明の開示 本発明に係る光ピ ッ ク ァ ッ プ装置は、 光源と対物レ ン ズ と の間の 光ビー ム の出射光路中に、 上記光 ビー ム と上記対物レ ン ズを介して 入射した光ビー ム とを分離する ゥ オ ーク オ フ効果を発生する複屈折 性を有する光学素子とを備える。
こ こ で、 上記対物レ ン ズ と上記複屈折性を有する光学素子との間 には、 1 Z 4 波長板を設ける。
また、 上記装置は、 上記光学素子が上記対物 レ ン ズを介して入射 した光ビー ムを第 1 の光ビー ム と 、 上記第 1 の光ビー ム の光軸に対 して所定の角度の光軸を有する第 2 の光ビー ムを発生する際には、 更に上記第 1 及び第 2 の光ビー ムを各々受光する第 1 及び第 2 の受 光手段を備えている。
また、 本発明に係る光ピ ッ ク ア ッ プ装置は、 光源と対物レ ン ズ と の間に、 上記対物レ ン ズを介して入射した光ビー ムを上記光源から 出射された光 ビー ム よ り分離し、 且つ上記対物 レ ン ズを介して入射 した光ビー ム の合焦点と異なる位置に焦点を結ばせる光学素子と、 上記光学素子から出射された光ビー ムを受光する受光素子とを備え てな る。
こ こ で、 上記光源と上記受光素子とは、 ベー ス部材上に一体に載 置されている。
また、 こ の装置も上記光学素子と上記対物レ ン ズと の間に 1 Z 4 波長板を備えている。
また、 本発明に係る光ビ ッ ク ア ッ プ装置は、 光源と対物レ ン ズ と の間に設けた光学素子と、 上記光学素子から出射された光ビー ム が 集光さ れる受光素子とを備え、 上記光学素子に、 光記録媒体によ つ て反射されて上記対物レ ン ズを介 して入射した光ビー ムを上記光源 から出射された光ビー ム よ り分離させ、 且つ光記録媒体によ り反射 されて上記対物レ ン ズを介して入射した光ビー ム の上記受光素子上 の ビー ム形状を光記録媒体の記録面の垂直な方向への変位に応じて 変化させる。
こ こ で、 こ の装置は、 更に上記光学素子と上記対物レ ン ズ と の間 に 1 4波長板を備えている。
また、 本発明に係る光ビ ッ ク ア ッ プ装置は、 光源と対物レ ン ズ と の間の上記光源から出射される光ビー ム の出射光路中に、 上記光源 か ら出射された光ビー ム の光路を 9 0度折り曲げる と と もに、 上記 光源か ら出射された光ビー ム と上記対物レ ン ズを介して入射 した光 ビー ム とを分離する ウ ォ ー ク オ フ効果を発生する複屈折性を有する 光学素子と、 上記光学素子から出射された光ビー ムを受光する受光 素子を備えてなる。 図面の簡単な説明 図 1 は、 光ディ ス ク再生に用い られる従来の一般的な光ピッ ク ァ ッ プ装置の概略構成図である。

発明を実施するための最良の形態 以下、 本発明に係る光ビッ ク ァ ッ プ装置のい く つかの実施例につ いて、 図面を参照しながら説明する。 CT/JP95/01511
先ず、 第 1 の実施例は、 図 3 に示すよ う に、 光源である レーザダ ィ ォー ド 2 1 から出射された レーザビー ムを対物レ ン ズ 2 4 によ つ て例えばコ ンパク ト ディ ス ク のよ うなディ ス ク 2 5 の信号記録面に 集光し、 該信号記録面からの戻り光を光検出手段である フ ォ ト ディ テク タ 2 6 で検出し、 サーボ信号と R F信号を得る光ピ ッ ク ア ッ プ 装置である力;、 上記レーザダイ ォー ド 2 1 と上記対物レ ン ズ 2 4 と の間に一軸性複屈折を行う複屈折性を有する光学素子 2 2 を配設し てなる。
すなわち、 この光 ビッ ク ア ッ プ装置は、 同一ペース 2 7 上ではあ るがフ ォ トディ テク タ 2 6 と異な る位置に配設された レーザダイ ォ 一 ド 2 1 から出射された レーザビ ー ムを上記複屈折性を有する光学 素子 2 2、 1 / 4 波長板 2 3 を介 して対物レ ン ズ 2 4 に入射させ、 該対物 レ ン ズ 2 4 に よ り ディ ス ク 2 5 の信号記録面に照射するよ う に集光させている。 そ して、 ディ ス ク 2 5 の信号記録面からの戻り 光を 1 .' 4波長板 2 3 を介して、 複屈折性を有する光学素子 2 2 に 入射さ せ、 該複屈折性を有する光学素子 2 2 に よ り レーザダイ ォ ー ド 2 1 の出射口と異なる位置に配設されたフ ォ ト ディ テ ク タ 2 6 上 の光集光面に照射させている。
複屈折性を有する光学素子 2 2 は、 レーザダイ ォー ド 2 1 から出 射された レーザビーム とディ ス ク 2 5 からの戻り光とを分離する ゥ オ ーク オ フ効果を用いている。 こ の複屈折性を有する光学素子 2 2 と しては、 例えば、 一軸性の複屈折性結晶素子がある。 この複屈折 性結晶素子は、 互いに平行な一対の面を有する板状に形成されてお り 、 光軸を 1 つだけ持つ結晶素子であり、 電気的主軸の 1 つ と結晶 軸の 1 つとがー致し、 光軸及び光線軸も上記電気的主軸に一致する も ので あ る。 こ の複屈折性結晶素子 と し ては、 ニ オ ブ酸 リ チ ウ ム ( L i N b 0 ; ) 、 バ ナ ジ ウ ム酸ィ ッ ト リ ウ ム ( Y V 04) 及び酸化 テ ルル ( T e 02) が存在する。 ま た、 こ の他、 複屈折性を有する光 学素子 2 2 と しては、 ポ リ マ一等による光学素子を用いてもよい。 こ の第 1 の実施例では、 複屈折性を有する光学素子 2 2 の光線軸 (以下、 C軸という) が図 3 のよ う に紙面に平行である。 こ の C軸 と した光線軸は光学素子中を光線が最も速く 進む軸であ り、. また、 レーザダイ ォー ド 2 1 から出た レーザ ビー ム の偏光は鸳気 べク ト ルの方向が図 3 の紙面に垂直な直線偏光である とする。 また、 こ の複屈折性を有する光学素子 2 2 と対物レ ン ズ 2 4 と の間に配設 された 1 , 4 波長板 2 3 は、 結晶方位軸を入射偏光方向の 4 5度方 向に設定されている。 特に、 こ の第 1 の実施例では、 1 /' 4 波長板
2 3 は複屈折性を有する光学素子 2 2 の、 対物レ ン ズ 2 4側から入 射する戻り光の入射面側に取り付け られている。
レーザダイ オー ド 2 1 から出射された レーザ ビー ムは S偏光、 つ ま り電気べク ト ルの方向が図 3 の紙面に垂直な直線偏光であ る とす る。 この時、 複屈折性を有する光学素子 2 2 に対して上記レーザビ 一ムは常光であるため光路の変更は無い。 1 / 4波長板 2 3 に入射 した上記レーザビー ムは、 該 1 / 4波長板 2 3 に よ り 円偏光と され、 対物レ ン ズ 2 4 に入射する。 対物レ ン ズ 2 4 は、 上記円偏光のレ ー ザ ビー ムをディ ス ク 2 5 の信号記録面に集光する。 ディ ス ク 2 5 の 信号記録面で反射された レーザ ビー ムは、 対物 レ ン ズ 2 4 を介 して 再び 1 Z 4 波長板 2 3 に入射する。 1 , 4 波長板 2 3 は、 入射した 戻り光を P偏光、 つま り電気べク ト ルの方向が図 1 の紙面に平行な 直線偏光とする。 こ の P偏光の戻り光は、 複屈折性を有する光学素 子 2 2 に入射する。 こ こで、 こ の戻り光は複屈折性を有する光学素 子 2 2 に対して異常光とな る。 こ のため、 上記戻り光はウ ォ ーク オ フ角に応じて光路が変更され、 レーザダイ ォー ド 2 1 には戻らず、 フ ォ ト デ ィ テ ク タ 2 6 の光集光面に戻る。 すなわち、 1 4 波長板 2 3 は、 上記戻り光を異常光と して複屈折性を有する光学素子 2 2 でのゥ オ ーク オ フ効果を十分働かせるよ う に し、 上記戻り光を レ ー ザダイ ォー ド 2 1 側に戻さないよ う に準備している。
複屈折性を有する光学素子 2 2 が上記戻り光の光路を変更する様 子を図 4 に示す。 こ こでは、 厚さ t の複屈折性を有する光学素子 2 2 の C軸と a 軸が紙面に平行であ る。 ま た、 複屈折性を有する光学 素子 2 2 は、 C軸に対して角度 e cで切り出されている。
入射する戻り光 が複屈折性を有する光学素子 2 2 に対 して常光、 つま り電気べク ト ルの方向が紙面に垂直である場合、 該戻り光は該 複屈折性を有する光学素子 2 2 による浮き上がり しか影 を受けな い。 図中破線で示す透過光 L iは、 複屈折性を有する光学素子 2 2 が 配設されていない場合の光束であ つて、 上記常光は こ の透過光 L よ り紙面に垂直な方向に浮き上がる。
しか し、 図 4 の様に、 入射する戻り光 L Rが複屈折性を有する光学 素子 2 2 に対 して異常光、 つま り霪気べク ト ルの方向が紙面に対 し て平行である場台、 該戻り光には ゥ オ ー ク オ フ によ る横ずれも生 じ、 透過光 L 2と な る。 ま た、 こ の他上記透過光 L 2には、 非点収差も発 生 し、 紙面に垂直な焦線と平行な焦線ができ る。 こ こ で、 透過光 L と透過光 L 2には、 縱ずれ Δ と横ずれ d が生 じ ている。 こ こ で、 縦 ずれ Δ は、 入射する光に対する屈折率を n とす る と、

図 5 には、 複屈折性を有する光学素子 2 と して Y V 0 4を用いた と き の波長 7 8 0 n m におけ る厚み 1 m m当り の非点隔差の変化を示 す。 こ の図 5 で、 縦軸は非点隔差を示 し、 横軸は切り 出 し角度 0 cを 示 している。 こ の図 5 において、 厚み t を厚く する ほ ど特性は上側 に シ フ 卜 している。 切り 出 し角度 0 (:が 9 0 度の時、 非点隔差は最大 と なる。
図 6 には、 複屈折性を有する光学素子 2 2 と して Y V 0 4を用いた と き の波長 7 8 0 n mにおける厚み 1 m m当 り の横ずれ量の変化を 示す。 こ の図 6 で縦軸は横ずら し量を示 し、 横軸は上記切り 出 し角 度 ø cを示 している。 厚み t を厚 く する ほど、 特性は上側に シフ ト し ている。 こ こで、 上記非点隔差量が最大とな っ た 9 0 度の切 り 出 し 角度 e cでは、 横ずれ量は 0 と な っ て し ま う。 ま た、 切り 出 し角度 e cが 0 度の時も横ずれ量は 0 とな る。 橫ずれ量が最大となる のは、 切 り 出 し角度 が 4 5 度の時である。 したがっ て、 複屈折性を有する 光学素子 2 2 が入射光の光路を変更する ウ ォ ー ク オ フ効果を好ま し く 利用でき る範囲は、 切り 出 し角度 0 cが 0度でな く 9 0度でない範 囲であ る こ とが分かる。 特に、 横ずれ量を考慮 した場台には、 おお むね 2 0 度以上であ り 9 0 度未満である こ とが好ま しい。
こ の様な複屈折性を有す る光学素子 2 2 の ゥ オ ー ク オ フ に よ る非 C / 95/ 1511 一 11 一
点収差を利用 して、 ディ ス ク 2 5 の焦点誤差信号を検出する こ とが で き る。
こ こ で、 図 7 を参照しながら本実施例に適用される非点収差法の 原理を説明しておく。 収束光束中に複屈折性を有する光学素子 2 2 を配設する と、 異常光に対 して図 7 に示すよ う に非点収差が発生 し 直交する 2 つの焦線 F 〗、 F 2が現れる。 これら 2 つの焦線 F !、 F 2 のほぼ中間点には最小錯乱円 F eが現れる。 こ の最小錯乱円 F rj上に 4 分割された光集光面 2 6 a を有する フ ォ ト デ ィ テ ク タ 2 6 を配設 する。 こ こで、 最小搾乱円 F。は、 デ ィ ス ク上でス ポ ッ ト が焦点位置 で集光されている と きの最小錯乱円を用いる。
最小錯乱円 F。上の フ ォ ト ディ テ ク タ 2 6 の光集光面 2 6 a におい て、 戻り光の作る ス ポ ッ 卜 が図 8 の ( a ) のよ う に、 縦に長い楕円 にな る と、 ディ ス ク 2 5 上でのス ポ ッ ト は、 前 ピン ト である こ とが 判明する。 また、 上記戻り光の作る スポ ッ 卜が図 8 の ( b ) のよ う に、 横に長い楕円にな る と、 デ ィ ス ク 2 5 上でのス ポ ッ ト は、 後 ビ ン ト である こ とが判明する。 そ して、 戻 り光の作る ス ポ ッ ト が図 8 の ( c ) のよ う に真円にな る と、 ディ ス ク 2 5 上での ス ポ ッ ト は合 焦 している こ とが判明する。 したがっ て、 フ ォ ト ディ テ ク タ 2 6 の 光集光面 2 6 a において、

なる演算を行う こ と によ り焦点誤差信号を検出する こ とがで き る。 こ のよ う に、 第 1 の実施例の光 ピ ッ ク ア ッ プ装置は、 レーザダイ ォー ド 2 1 と上記対物レ ン ズ 2 4 と の間に複屈折性を有する光学素 子 2 2 を配設してな り、 ディ ス ク 2 5 の信号記録面からの戻り光を 1 Z 4 波長板 2 3 を介して、 複屈折性を有する光学素子 2 2 に入射 させ、 該複屈折性を有する光学素子 2 2 によ り レーザ光出射口であ る レーザダイ オー ド 2 1 と異な る 位置に配設さ れた フ ォ 卜 デ ィ テ ク タ 2 6 上の 4 分割さ れた光集光面 2 6 a に照射させ、 焦点誤差信号 を検出 している。 したがっ て、 こ の実施例の光 ピ ッ ク ア ッ プ装置は、 少ない部品点数で戻 り光を光源の出射位置から離 して光検出器に照 射する こ とができ る。 また、 光検出のための調整が不要と な り、 安 定 したサ一ボ信号が得られる。
なお、 本発明に係る光 ピ ッ ク ア ッ プ装置は、 上記第 1 の実施例に のみ限定される ものではな く 、 例えば図 9 に示す様な概略構成の光 ピ ッ ク ア ッ プ装置で もよい。 すなわち、 こ の第 1 の実施例の変形例 と なる光 ビ ッ ク ア ッ プ装置は、 レーザダイ オー ド 2 1 と フ ォ ト デ ィ テ ク タ 2 6 を同一の基板 2 7 上に載置 して、 レーザダイ ォ一 ド 2 1 の発光部の直近に立ち上げ ミ ラー 2 8 を形成し ている。 レーザダイ オー ド 2 1 か ら出射 された レーザ光は、 S偏光の直線偏光である。 立ち上げ ミ ラ ー 2 8 で 9 0 度折り 曲げられた レーザ ビー ム L sは、 複 屈折性を有す る光学素子 2 2 を透過し、 1 / 4 波長板 2 3 に よ り 円 偏光と され、 対物レ ン ズ 2 4 に入射する。 対物 レ ン ズ 2 4 は、 上記 円偏光の レーザビー ム L Sをディ ス ク 2 5 の信号記録面に集光する。 デ ィ ス ク 2 5 の信号記録面で反射された レーザ ビー ム L Rは、 対物レ ン ズ 2 4 を介 して再び 1 ノ 4 波長板 2 3 に入射する。 1 Z 4 波長板 2 3 は、 入射 した レーザ ビ ー ム L Rを ?偏光の直線偏光とす る。 こ の P偏光の レーザ ビー ム L Rは、 複屈折性を有する光学素子 2 に対 して 異常光と なる。 こ のため、 上記レーザビー ム L Rは ウ ォー ク オ フ角に 応 じて光路が偏光さ れ、 立ち上げ ミ ラー 2 8 には戻らず、 フ ォ ト デ ィ テ ク タ 2 6 の光集光面 2 6 a に戻る。 この第 1 の実施例の変形例も、 少ない部品点数で戻り光を光源の 出射位置から離して光検出器に照射する こ とができ る。 また、 光検 出のための調整が不要とな り、 安定したサ一ボ信号が得られる。 特 に、 こ の他の実施例は、 立ち上げ ミ ラ ー 2 8 を設け る こ と に よ り、 レーザ ビームの発光点と フ ォ ト デ ィ テ ク タ 2 6 の光集光面との位置 関係を精度良く 出す こ とができ る。
なお、 上記第 1 実施例及びその変形例では、 光検出手段である フ ォ ト ディ テ ク タ と複屈折性を有する光学素子と を一体化して もよ い。 ま た、 対物レ ン ズと 1 Z 4 波長板と複屈折性を有する光学素子とを 一体化 してもよい。 もちろん、 対物レ ン ズ と 1 .ノ 4波長板と複屈折 性を有する光学素子との位置関係を崩さなければ一体化しな く て も よ い。 ま た、 対物レ ンズと しては、 無限倍率の対物レ ン ズを用いて も よい。
さ らに、 複屈折性を有する光学素子と しては、 上述 したよ う に L i N b 03、 Y V O 4及び T e O 2等の複屈折性結晶素子の他、 ポ リ マ 一等によ る光学素子を用いてもよい。 例えば、 Dirk J. Broer, Rifat A.M. Hi kroet, Ger Challaによ る 「 ln - situ pho t opo 1 ymer i za t i on of or i en ted 1 i qu i d-c rystal 1 ine acrylates. . また、 レーザダイ ォ一 ドのよ う な光源を戻り光の検出を行う M P /JP95/01511 一 14 一
D (マ イ ク ロ プ リ ズムディ テ ク タ ) と一体化する よ う に して も よ い。
また、 以上には、 フ ォ ト ディ テ ク タ によ り得られた信号によ り フ オ ーカ シ ン グ制御を行う 旨説明し たが、 こ の光 ピ ッ ク ア ッ プ装置は、 上記フ ォ トディ テク タによ り得られた信号によ り ト ラ ッ キ ン グ制御 を行った り、 R F信号再生を行え るのはいう ま でもない。
次に、 第 2 の実施例は、 図 1 0 に示すよ う に、 光源である レーザ ダイ オー ド 3 1 からの レーザビー ムを対物レ ン ズ 3 3 によ っ て例え ば光磁気ディ ス クのよ う なディ ス ク 3 4 の信号記録面に集光 し、 該 信号記録面からの戻り光を光検出手段であるフ ォ ト デ ィ テ ク タ 3 5 で検出 し、 サ一ボ信号と R F信号を得る光ピッ ク ア ッ プ装置であ り、 コ リ メ 一夕 レ ン ズを省いた有限倍率のシ ン プル な構成と されている。 特に、 こ の光ピ ッ ク ア ッ プ装置は、 上記対物レ ン ズ 3 3 と上記フ ォ ト ディ テ ク タ 3 5 との間に一軸性複屈折を有する光学素子 3 2 を斜 めに配設してな る。
そ して、 光ビ ッ ク ア ッ プ装置は、 レーザダイ オー ド 3 1 か ら出射 された レーザ ビー ム を、 対物レ ン ズ 3 3 と フ 'ォ 卜 ディ テ ク タ 3 5 と の間に、 斜めに配設された一軸性複屈折を有する光学素子 3 2 の表 面で一部反射して、 対物レ ン ズ 3 3 に導いている。 対物レ ン ズ 3 3 は、 上記レーザ ビー ムを集光してディ ス ク 3 4 の信号記録面に照射 する。
また、 デ ィ ス ク 3 4上の信号記録面で反射された戻り光は、 対物 レ ン ズ 3 3 を介して再び一軸性複屈折を有する光学素子 3 2 に達す る。 こ こ で、 一軸性複屈折を有する光学素子 3 2 は、 上記戻 り光の —部を透過させ、 フ ォ ト ディ テク タ 3 5 に入射させる。 フ ォ ト ディ テク タ 3 5 に入射した戻り光は、 複屈折によ り電気べク ト ルの方向 が紙面に垂直な常光である S偏光と、 電気べク ト ルの方向が紙面に 平行な異常光である P偏光と いう 2 つ の偏光成分に空間分離される。 この P偏光と S偏光の差動信号が光磁気の R F信号と して使われる。 また、 こ の P偏光と S偏光の和信号がエ ン ボ ス ビ ッ ト から R F信号 及びサーボ ί言号を得る際に使われる。 こ の一軸性複屈折を有する光 学素子 3 2 の表面には、 Ρ偏光を例えば 7 0 %反射する一方、 例え ば 3 0 %透過させる と共に、 S偏光を例えば 1 0 0 %透過させる よ う な偏光膜コ ーテ ィ ングが施されている。
次に、 対物レ ン ズ 3 3 と フ ォ ト ディ テ ク タ 3 5 との間に斜めに配 設された一軸性複屈折を有する光学素子 3 2 に つ いて説明する。
一軸性複屈折を有する光学素子 3 2 は、 レーザダイ ォー ド 3 1 か ら出射された レーザ ビー ム とディ ス ク 3 4 からの戻り光とを分離す る ゥ ォ 一 ク オ フ効果を用いている。 この一軸性複屈折を有する光学 素子 3 2 と しては、 例えば、 複屈折性結晶素子がある。 この複屈折 性結晶素子は、 互いに平行な一対の面を有する板状に形成されてい る。 こ の複屈折性結晶素子と しては、 ニオブ酸 リ チ ウ ム ( L i N b 0 3 ) 、 バナ ジ ウ ム酸イ ツ ト リ ウ ム ( Y V 0 4 ) 及び酸化テ ル ル ( T e 0 2 ) が存在する。 また、 こ の他、 一軸性複屈折を有する光学素子 3 2 と しては、 ポ リ マー等による光学素子を用いてもよい。
先ず、 収束光中に上記一軸性の複屈折性結晶素子 3 2 を傾けて挿 入する場合について図 1 1 を参照 しながら説明する。 収束光中に傾 けた上記複屈折性結晶素子 3 2 を挿入する と光軸 z が横にずれ (図 中光軸 z ' と示す。 ) 、 非点収差 も発生する。 上記複屈折性結晶素 子 3 2 の厚さを t 、 屈折率を N、 複屈折性結晶素子 3 2 の法線と光 軸 z の成す角度を 0 とする と、 発生する非点隔差 Δ ζ は、 P95/01511

こ の よ う な複屈折性結晶素子 3 2 に収束光 L Rが入射する した場合 の原理は、 上記図 4 を用いて説明 したのと同様であるのでこ こでは 説明を省略する。
こ の複屈折性結晶素子 3 2 と して Y V 04を用いた と き の波長 7 8 0 n mにおける厚み 1 m m当りの非点隔差量の変化も上記図 5 と同 様にな る。 また、 複屈折性結晶素子 3 2 と して Y V 04を用いたと き の波長 7 8 0 n mにおける厚み 1 mm当り の横ずれ量の変化も上記 図 6 と同様になる。
すなわち、 上記複屈折結晶素子 3 2 の C軸の向き と上記戻り光の 偏光方向とが、 上記戻り光の光軸に垂直な平面上で、 0度と 9 0 度 を除いた角度となるのがよ く 、 特に、 その角度が 4 5 度とな るの力 ί 好ま しい。
例えば切り 出し角度 0 cが 4 5度の時、 異常光の非点隔差は 4 0 μ m、 横ずれ量は 1 0 0 〃 mとなる。
上述のテ ィ ル ト · プ レー ト効果、 ウ ォ ーク オ フ効果の組合せによ り、 常光と異常光の非点隔差の差分を 2 0 πι程度に押え、 常光と 異常光の横ずれの差分を 1 3 間で大き く する こ とができ る。 従って、 常光と異常光の非点隔差の値は 2 3 0 m程度の大き さを 確保でき る。
こ こ で、 図 1 2 を参照しながら第 2 の実施例に適用される非点収 差法の原理を説明してお く。 収束光束中に複屈折性結晶素子 3 2 を 傾斜さ せて配置する と、 上述したテ ィ ル ト · プ レー ト効果、 ウ ォ ー ク ォ フ効果によ り、 常光 L sと異常光 L Pの 2 つの横ずれした光束に 分離さ れる。 分離されたそれぞれの光束 L ;?.、 L f.に対して、 図 1 2 のよ う に非点収差が発生し直交する二つの焦線が現れる。 常光 L sに 発生した非点収差によ り現れるのが焦線 F S 1及び F であ り 、 異常 光 L pに現れるのが焦線 F p】及び F F. 2である。 これらそれぞれ 2 つの 焦線の約中点には、 最小錯乱円 F s o及び F P 0が現れる。 こ の最小錯 乱円 F s o及び F P 0上に例えば 4 分割ディ テク タ 3 5及び 3 5 ' を配 置する。 こ の最小錯乱円 F s o及び F f. c,はディ ス ク 3 4 上でス ポ ッ ト が焦点位置で集光されている時の最小錯乱円を使う。
例えば、 最小錯乱円 F s 0上のフ ォ ト デ ィ テ ク タ 3 5 の光集光面に おいて、 戻り光の作る ス ポ ッ トが上記図 8 の ( a ) のよ う に、 縦に 長い楕円になる と、 ディ ス ク上でのス ポ ッ ト は、 前ピ ン ト である こ とが判明する。 また、 上記戻り光の作る ス ポ ッ 卜が図 8 の ( b ) の よ う に、 横に長い楕円になる と、 ディ ス ク上でのスポ ッ ト は、 後 ビ ン トである こ とが判明する。 そ して、 戻り光の作るス ポ ッ 卜 が図 8 の ( c ) のよ う に真円になる と、 ディ ス ク上でのスポ ッ ト は合焦 し ている こ とが判明する。 したがっ て、 フ ;♦ ト デ ィ テ ク タ の光集光面 において、

なる演算を行う。 こ れを焦点誤差信号と して使 う こ とができ る。 こ の焦点誤差信号は常光と異常光の加算信号なので、 ディ ス ク 基板の 2 軸性複屈折性によ り偏光検波された光の空間的偏り の影響を取り 除 く こ とがで き、 安定した焦点誤差信号を得る こ とができ る。 なお、 ト ラ ッ キ ングは、 プ ッ シュ プル法を適用 して、 ( A + D ) ― ( B + C ) の演算で実現する こ とができ る。 また、 ス リ ー ス ポ ッ ト 法で行 う場台は、 レーザダイ ォー ド 1 の上部に グレー テ ィ ン グを設置すれ ばよい。
次に、 上記第 2 の実施例である光ビッ ク ア ツ プ装置のいく つかの 具体例について図 1 3 乃至図 1 9 を参照しなが ら説明する。 各具体 例は、 C軸の方向と レーザ光の偏光方向 (電気ベク ト ルの方向) の 位置関係を異な らせ る こ と によ り 区別されている。
先ず、 第 1 具体例は、 複屈折性結晶素子 3 2 の C軸の方向と レー ザ光の偏光方向の位置関係 (電気べク ト ルの方向、 図中 E で示す。 〉 が図 1 3 に示すよ う にされている。 複屈折性結晶素子 3 2 の表面に は、 P偏光を例えば 7 0 %反射する一方、 例えば 3 0 %透過させる と共に、 S偏光を例えば 1 0 0 %透過させるよ うな偏光膜コーテ ィ ングが施されている。 図 1 4 にはディ ス ク側か ら見た図を、 図 1 5 には側面から見た図を示す。 特に、 図 1 4 はデ ィ ス ク への入射光軸 に対して垂直な平面に射影 した位置関係が示してある。 すなわち、 / 11

こ の第 1 具体例では、 レーザ光の偏光方向がディ ス ク 3 4 への入射 光軸と平行とな っている。 ディ ス ク 3 4 で反射 した光の偏光方向に 対 して、 複屈折性結晶素子 3 2 の C軸の方向は、 デ ィ ス ク 3 4 への 入射光軸に対して垂直な平面に射影して 4 5度の角度を持っ ている, 次に、 第 2具体例は、 一軸性複屈折結晶素子の C軸の方向と レ ー ザ光の偏光方向 (電気べク ト ルの方向、 図中 E で示す。 ) の位置関 係が図 1 6 に示すよ う にな つている。 各光学素子の配置は、 上記図 1 3 と同様である。 図 1 7 にはデ ィ ス ク側から見た図を、 図 1 8 に は側面から見た図を示す。 特に、 図 1 7 はデ ィ ス ク への入射光軸に 対して垂直な平面に射影した位置関係が示してある。 すなわち、 こ の第 2 具体例では、 レーザ光の偏光方向がディ ス クへの入射光軸と 4 5度の関係となっ ている。 ディ ス ク で反射した光の偏光方向に対 して、 複屈折性結晶素子 3 2 の C軸の方向は、 デ ィ ス ク への入射光 軸に対 して垂直な平面に射影して 4 5度の角度を持っている。
以上よ り、 第 2 の実施例の光ビ ッ ク ア ッ プ装置は、 対物レ ン ズ と 光検出器との間に複屈折性を有する光学素子を配設してなるだけの 簡単な構成で光磁気信号を検出でき る。 すなわち、 こ の実施例の光 学ピッ ク ア ッ プ装置は、 少ない部品点数で戻り光を光源の出射位置 から離 して光検出器に照射する こ とができ るの で、 低価格化と小型 化を達成でき る。 ま た、 光検出のための調整が不要となり、 安定し た焦点誤差検出信号を得る こ と がで き る。
次に、 第 2 の実施例の変形例について説明する。 こ の第 2 の実施 例の変形例は、 図 1 9 に示すよ う に、 側面を傾斜面 4 0 a と した複 屈折性結晶素子 4 0 を用いている。 すなわち、 こ の複屈折性結晶素 子 4 0 は、 楔形状と されている。 複屈折性結晶素子 4 0 は、 その傾 斜面 4 0 a で レーザ ダイ ォ ー ド 3 1 か ら の レーザ光を、 9 0 度に反 射 し、 デ ィ ス ク に導 く 。 デ ィ ス ク で反射 した光は、 傾斜面を通っ て フ ォ ト ディ テ ク タ 3 5 に導かれる。 その時、 楔形状効果と、 ウ ォ ー ク オ フ効果で常光 L s、 異常光 L Pの 2 つ の光束に分離される 。 そ れ らの差動信号を光磁気の R F信号 と して使 う。 ま た、 それら の和信 号をェ ン ボ ス ピ ッ ト か らの R F信号及びサーボ信号の検出に使う。 以上よ り、 こ の第 2 の実施例の変形例 も、 少ない部品点数で戻り 光を光源の出射位置から離 して光検出器に照射する こ とがで き る の で、 低価格化と小型化を達成でき る。 ま た、 光検出のための調整が 不要と な り、 安定した焦点誤差検出信号を得る こ とができ る。
なお、 上記光検出器であ る フ ォ ト デ ィ テ ク タ のパタ ー ンは、 4 分 割パタ ー ンである こ と は もちろん、 3 分割パタ ー ンで もよ い。 ま た、 上記フ ォ ト ディ テク タ と光源とを一体化 して も よい。 また、 フ ォ ト デ ィ テ ク タ と複屈折性を有する光学素子と を一体化 して もよ い。 さ ら に、 屈折性を有する光学素子と しては、 L i N b 0 5、 Y V 0 4及び T e 0;:等の複屈折性結晶素子の他、 上述 したよ う なポ リ マー 等によ る光学素子を用いて もよい。
また、 光源を戻り 光の検出を行 う M P D (マ イ ク ロ プ リ ズ ムデ ィ テ ク タ ) と一体化す るよ う に して もよい。
また、 対物 レ ン ズ と して無限倍率の対物レ ン ズを用いても よい。

1 . 光源と、
上記光源よ り出射された光ビー ムを光軸上の一点で集光させる対 物レ ン ズと、
上記光源と上記対物レ ン ズと の間の上記光源から出射される光 ビ 一ム の 出射光路中に配されて、 上記光源から出射された光ビー ム と 上記対物レ ン ズを介 して入射した光ビー ム と を分離する ゥ ォ ー ク ォ フ効果を発生する複屈折性を有する光学素子と を備えたこ とを特徴 とする光ビ ッ ク ア ッ プ装置。
2 . 上記光学素子は、 一軸性の複屈折性結晶素子から構成されてい る こ と を特徴とする請求の範囲第 1 項記載の光ピッ ク ァ ッ プ装置。

8 . 上記光学素子は、 上 Ϊ己光学素子の光線軸が上記対物レ ン ズを介 して入射した光ビー ム の P偏光成分と S偏光成分とが互いにほぼ等 し く 成る方位に配さ れている こ と を特徴とする請求の範囲第 2項記 載の光 ビッ ク ア ッ プ装置。
9 . 上記光学素子は、 上記光源か ら出射された光ビー ム の光路を 9 0度折 り曲げるよ う に上記対物レ ン ズの光軸上に傾いた状態で配さ れ、 上記光源から出射された光ビー ムを反射する と と もに、 上記対 物レ ン ズを介して入射した光ビー ムを透過する こ とを特徴とする請 求の範囲第 2項記載の光ピ ッ ク ァ ッ プ装置。
1 0 . 上記光学素子は、 上記対物レ ン ズを介して入射 した光 ビー ム を第 1 の光ビームと上記第 1 の光 ビー ム の光軸に対して所定の角度 の光軸を有する第 2 の光ビー ムを発生する こ と を特徴とする請求の 範囲第 9項の光ピッ ク ア ツ プ装置。
1 1 . 上記装置は、 更に上記第 1 及び第 2 の光 ビー ムを各々受光す る第 1 及び第 2 の受光手段を備えている こ とを特徴とする請求の範 囲第 1 0項記載の光 ピ ッ ク ア ッ プ装置。
1 2 . 上記第 1 及び第 2 の受光手段は、 同一平面内に配されている こ とを特徴とする請求の範囲第 1 1 項記載の光ピッ ク ァ ッ プ装置。
1 3 . 上記光学素子は、 上記対物レ ン ズを介して入射した光 ビー ム から常光線と異常光線とを発生させる こ とを特徴とする請求の範囲 第 9項記載の光ピッ ク ア ツ プ装置。
1 4 . 上記装置は、 更に上記常光線と異常光線を各々受光する第 1 及び第 2 の受光手段を備えている こ とを特徴とする請求の範囲第 1 3 項記載の光 ピッ ク ァ ッ プ装置。
1 5 . 上記第 1 及び第 2 の受光手段は、 同一の面内に配されている こ とを特徴とする請求の範囲第 1 4項記載の光ピッ ク ア ッ プ装置。
1 6 . 光源と、
上記光源よ り出射された光ビー ムを光軸上の一点で集光さ せる対 物レ ン ズと、
上記光源と上記対物レ ン ズ と の間に配されて、 上記対物レ ン ズを 介 して入射した光ビー ムを上記光源から出射された光ビー ム よ り分 離し、 且つ上記対物レ ン ズを介して入射した光 ビー ム の台焦点と異 なる位置に焦点を結ばせる光学素子と、
上記光学素子から出射された光 ビー ムを受光する受光素子とを備 えたこ とを特徴とする光ビッ ク ァ ッ プ装置。
1 7 . 上記装置は、 更に上記光源と上記受光素子とが設けられるべ 一ス部材を備えてい る こ とを特徴とする請求の範囲第 1 6項記載の 光ピッ ク ア ッ プ装置。
1 8 . 上記光学素子は、 一軸性の複屈折性結晶素子から構成されて いる こ とを特徴とする請求の範囲第 1 6 項記載の光ピッ ク ァ ッ ブ装 置。
1 9 . 上記複屈折性結晶素子は、 上記複屈折性結晶素子の結晶軸が 上記光源から出射される光ビー ム の偏光面と一致するよ う に配され ている こ とを特徴とする請求の範囲第 1 8項記載の光ピッ ク ア ッ プ 装置。
2 0 . 上記光学素子は、 互いに平行な一対の面を有する板状に形成 されている こ とを特徴とする請求の範囲第 1 8 項記載の光ピ ッ ク ァ プ装置。
2 1 . 上記装置は、 更に上記光学素子と上記対物レ ン ズと の間に配 される 1 , 4 波長板を備えている こ とを特徴とする請求の範囲第 1 6 項記載の光ビッ ク ア ッ プ装置。
2 2 . 上記 1 4波長板は、 上記光学素子の上記対物レ ン ズを介し て入射 した光 ビー ム の入射面側に取り付けられている こ とを特徴と する請求の範囲第 2 1 項記載の光 ピッ ク 了 ッ プ装置。
2 3 . 光源と、
上記光源よ り出射された光ビー ムを光記録媒体上の一点で集光さ せ る対物レ ン ズと 、
上記光源と上記対物レ ン ズ と の間に配される光学素子と、 上記光学素子から出射された光 ビー ム が集光される受光素子とを 備え、
上記光学素子は、 光記録媒体によ っ て反射されて上記対物レ ン ズ を介して入射した光 ビームを上記光源から出射された光ビー ムよ り 分離し、 且つ光記録媒体によ り反射されて上記対物レ ン ズを介して 入射した光ビー ム の上記受光素子上の ビー ム形状を光記録媒体の記 録面の垂直な方向への変位に応じて変化を生じ させる こ とを特徴と する光 ピッ ク ア ッ プ装置。
2 4 . 上記光学素子は、 光記録媒体の記録面の垂直な方向への変位 に応じて上記対物レ ン ズを介して入射した光ビー ム に非点隔差を発 生させる こ とを特徴とする請求の範囲第 2 3項記載の光ビッ ク ア ツ プ装置。
2 5 . 上記光学素子は、 上記対物レ ン ズを介して入射した光 ビー ム の台焦点よ り も手前の位置に焦点を結ばせる こ とを特徴とする請求 の範囲第 2 4 項記載の光ピ ッ ク ァ ッ プ装置。
2 6 . 上記光学素子は、 一軸性の複屈折性結晶素子から構成されて いる こ とを特徴とする請求の範囲第 2 3 項記載の光ピッ ク ァ ッ ブ装 置。
2 7 . 上記複屈折性結晶素子は、 上記複屈折性結晶素子の結晶軸が 上記光源から出射される光ビー ム の偏光面と一致するよ う に配設さ れてい る こ とを特徴とする請求の範囲第 2 6 項記載の光ピッ ク ア ツ プ装置。
2 8 . 上記光学素子は、 互いに平行な一対の面を有する板状に形成 されている こ とを特徴とする請求の範囲第 2 6 項記載の光ピ ッ ク ァ ッ プ装置。
2 9 . 上記装置は、 更に上記光学素子と上記対物レ ン ズ と の間に配 される 1 Z 4 波長板を備えている こ とを特徴とする請求の範囲第 2 3 項記載の光ピ ッ ク ア ッ プ装置。
3 0 . 上記 1 / 4波長板は、 上記光学素子の上記対物レ ン ズを介し て入射 した光ビー ム の入射面側に取り付けられている こ とを特徴と する請求の範囲第 2 9項記載の光 ピッ ク ア ッ プ装置。

上記光源よ り出射された光ビー ムを光軸上の一点で集光させる対 物レ ン ズ と、
上記光源と上記対物レ ン ズ と の間の上記光源から出射される光ビ 一ム の 出射光路中に配されて、 上記光源から出射された光ビー ム の 光路を 9 0度折り曲げる と と もに、 上記光源から出射された光ビー ム と上記対物レ ン ズ を介して入射 した光ビー ム と を分離する ゥ ォ一 ク オ フ効果を発生する複屈折性を有する光学素子と、 上記光学素子から出射された光 ビー ムを受光する受光素子を備え た こ と を特徴とする光ピッ ク ア ツ プ装置。
3 2 . 上記光学素子は、 一軸性の複屈折性結晶素子から構成されて いる こ とを特徴とする請求の範囲第 3 1 項記載の光ビ ッ ク ァ ッ ブ装 置。
3 3 . 上記光学素子は、 上記光線軸が上記光源から出射された光ビ ー ム の偏光方向に対 して 4 5度と なるよ う に配されている こ とを特 徴とする請求の範囲第 3 2 項記載の光ピ ッ ク ァ ッ プ装置。
3 4 . 上記光学素子は、 上記光線軸が上記対物 レ ン ズを介して入射 した光 ビー ム の P偏光成分と S偏光成分とが互いにほぼ等し く 成る 方位に配されている こ とを特徴とする請求の範囲第 3 2項記載の光 ピッ ク ア ッ プ装置。
3 5 . 上記光学素子は、 上記光源から出射された光ビー ム の光路を 9 0度折り曲げるよ う に上記対物 レ ン ズの光軸上に傾いた伏態で配 された互いに平行な一対の面を有する板状に形成されている こ とを 特徴とする請求の範囲第 3 2項記載の光ピ ッ ク ァ ッ プ装置。
3 6 . 上記光学素子は、 上記対物 レ ン ズを介して入射した光 ビー ム から常光線と異常光線とを発生させる こ とを特徴とする請求の範囲 第 3 5 項記載の光ピ ッ ク ァ ッ プ装置。
3 7 . 上記装置は、 更に上記常光線と異常光線を各々受光する第 1 及び第 2 の受光手段を備えている こ とを特徴とする請求の範囲第 3 6 項記載の光ビッ ク ア ッ プ装置。
