ここで、上記置換基としては、たとえばヒドロキシル基、アルコキシル基、アシル基、ニトロ基、メルカプト基、アミノ基、スルホン基、チオール基等を挙げることができる。

本発明の金属顔料において、有機カルボン酸金属塩を構成する金属元素の含有量は、金属粒子100質量部に対し、0.01~30質量部の範囲内の量で含有されることが好ましく、特に0.5~20質量部の範囲内であることがより好ましい。金属元素の含有量が0.01質量部以上である場合には、金属顔料の化学的安定性が特に良好であり、たとえば金属粒子としてアルミニウム粒子が水性塗料に配合された場合に該水性塗料中で水とアルミニウムとが反応して水素ガスが発生するという問題を低減できる。金属元素の含有量が30質量部以下である場合には、有機カルボン酸金属塩が該水性塗料中に溶出することによる金属顔料の凝集が防止され、塗膜に特に良好な意匠性および隠蔽性を与える金属顔料を得ることができる。
本発明の金属顔料において有機カルボン酸金属塩は、金属粒子100質量部に対し、0.5~100質量部の範囲内の量で含有されることが好ましく、特に1~50質量部の範囲内の量で含有されることがより好ましい。該含有量が0.5質量部以上である場合、金属粒子としてアルミニウム粒子を用いて得られる金属顔料(アルミニウム顔料)が水性塗料に配合される場合に、該水性塗料の貯蔵中に水とアルミニウムとが反応して水素ガスを発生するという問題を低減でき、該含有量が100質量部以下である場合、有機カルボン酸金属塩が該水性塗料中に溶出することによって経時安定性が低下するという問題を低減することができる。
本発明において、有機カルボン酸金属塩が付着した金属粒子の表面には、さらに種々の皮膜を形成することができる。たとえば、本発明の金属顔料を含む塗膜における耐酸性、耐アルカリ性、密着性等を向上させる目的で有機燐化合物(ポリマーを含む)による皮膜を形成してもよいし、樹脂による皮膜を形成してもよい。これらの皮膜は、2以上のものを積層させて形成してもよい。
このような皮膜を構成する有機燐化合物としては、たとえば酸性燐酸エステル、ポリオキシエチレンアルキルフェノール燐酸、エポキシ化合物またはアクリル化合物と燐酸との反応による燐酸エステル、アクリル系またはメタクリル系の燐酸エステル等を挙げることができる。このような有機燐化合物には、ポリマーが含まれる。

脂肪族アルコールの正燐酸ジエステル:(R-O)2PO(OH)
上記式中、Rは各独立して、置換基を含んでいてもよい炭素数4~18のアルキル部位(アルキル部位を構成する炭素鎖は分岐していてもよい)を示す。
樹脂による皮膜(以下「樹脂皮膜」とも記す)を構成する樹脂としては、たとえばカルボキシル基および/またはリン酸基を有する反応性モノマー、3官能以上の多官能性アクリルエステルモノマー、ベンゼン核を有する重合性モノマー、の少なくともいずれかを含む1種または2種以上のモノマーから合成された単独重合体または共重合体を例示することができる。樹脂皮膜を形成する場合、本発明の金属顔料と塗料樹脂とを配合した樹脂組成物を用いて塗膜を形成する際に、金属顔料と塗料樹脂との密着性が向上し、塗膜物性が良好になるという効果が付与される。また、このような樹脂皮膜の形成により塗膜の耐薬品性が向上するという効果も付与される。
本発明の金属顔料の製造方法は、特に限定されないが、たとえば上記金属粒子に対して上記第1化合物を付着させる工程と、該第1化合物が付着した金属粒子と上記有機カルボン酸金属塩とを混合する工程とを含むという簡単な操作で製造することができる。このような好適な本発明の金属顔料の製造方法は、上記の2つの工程を含む限り後述するような他の任意の工程を含むことができる。
本発明は、上述したような金属顔料を含む水性メタリック樹脂組成物にも係る。
1)樹脂:アクリル樹脂、アルキッド樹脂、ポリエステル樹脂、ポリウレタン樹脂、ポリ酢酸ビニル樹脂、ニトロセルロース樹脂、フッ素樹脂
2)顔料:本発明による金属顔料の他に下記のような着色顔料、体質顔料、染料等を併用しても良い;
フタロシアニン、キナクリドン、イソインドリノン、ペリレン、アゾレーキ、酸化鉄、黄鉛、カーボンブラック、酸化チタン、パールマイカ等
3)添加剤:水、有機溶剤、界面活性剤、硬化剤、紫外線吸収剤、静電気除去剤、増粘剤等
本発明の水性メタリック樹脂組成物である塗膜については、電着塗装等による下塗り層や中塗り層の上に形成されていてもよく、また本発明の塗膜の上にトップコート層が形成されていてもよい。
以下、実施例を挙げて本発明をより詳細に説明するが、本発明はこれらに限定されるものではない。本実施例において、各物性の測定方法は次のとおりである。
次式より金属粒子の平均厚みを算出した。
なお、金属粒子の水面拡散面積はJIS K5906の8.6項により測定することができる。
日機装社製「マイクロトラックHRA9320-X100」を用いて、レーザー回折法により測定された粒度分布から求めた。
(1)有機カルボン酸金属塩希釈溶液中の金属元素の含有量の測定は、サーモフィッシャーサイエンティフィック株式会社製「iCAP6000」にて該溶液中の金属元素含有量を求めた。
本実施例では、金属粒子としてアルミニウム粒子を用いた。まず、このアルミニウム粒子のペーストを次のようにして準備した。すなわち、粉砕メディアを有するボールミルに、アルミニウム粒子の原料であるアルミニウム粉末を1000g、第1化合物であるオレイン酸を100g、および有機溶媒(ミネラルスピリット)を5L添加する。そして、該ボールミルを温度20℃、処理時間15時間の条件で作動させることにより、アルミニウム粉末をフレーク化するとともに、フレーク化されたアルミニウム粒子上に第1化合物を付着させた(第1化合物付着工程)。その後、固液分離することにより固形分の調整を行なうことによって、第1化合物が付着したアルミニウム粒子のペースト(固形分:70質量%、アルミニウム粒子の平均粒子径:10μm、平均厚み:0.19μm、アスペクト比:10.5、水面拡散面積:2.0m2/g)1100gを得た(このペーストを以下「ペーストA」と記す)。
実施例1で使用したアルミニウム粒子の「ペーストA」100gを秤量しニーダーミキサーに加えた。また、有機カルボン酸金属塩であるイソステアリン酸銅を、商品名「シェルゾールA100」(前出)で希釈することにより希釈溶液(銅含有量4.8質量%)5.0gを得、この希釈溶液をさらにミネラルスピリット5.0gに溶解し、これも上記のニーダーミキサーに添加した。
実施例1で使用したアルミニウム粒子の「ペーストA」100gを秤量しニーダーミキサーに加えた。また、有機カルボン酸金属塩であるナフテン酸ジルコニウムを、商品名「シェルゾールA100」(前出)で希釈することにより希釈溶液(ジルコニウム含有量11.7質量%)2.0gを得、この希釈溶液をさらにミネラルスピリット8.0gに溶解し、これも上記のニーダーミキサーに添加した。
実施例1で使用したアルミニウム粒子の「ペーストA」100gを秤量しニーダーミキサーに加えた。また、ナフテン酸0.4gをミネラルスピリット12.0gに溶解し、これも上記のニーダーミキサーに添加した。
実施例1で使用したアルミニウム粒子の「ペーストA」100gを秤量しニーダーミキサーに加えた。また、イソステアリン酸0.4gをミネラルスピリット12.0gに溶解し、これも上記のニーダーミキサーに添加した。
実施例1で使用したアルミニウム粒子の「ペーストA」100gを秤量しニーダーミキサーに加えた。また、過酸化水素30%を含む過酸化水素水0.5gに、金属モリブデン粉末0.08gを少しずつ加え、さらにこれをイソプロピルアルコール17.5gで希釈した希釈液も上記のニーダーミキサーに添加した。
実施例1~3で得られた本発明の金属顔料であるアルミニウム顔料、および比較例1~3で得られた比較用のアルミニウム顔料をそれぞれ使用し、下記の組成および方法で塗料である水性メタリック樹脂組成物を作製した。
上記水性メタリック樹脂組成物100gをそれぞれ採取し、これらを40℃に保った保温水槽で72時間保持し、その間の水素ガス累積発生量を測定した。この水素ガス累積発生量が少ないもの程、貯蔵安定性が良好であると評価した。その結果を表1に示す。
上記のガス発生の評価を行なった後の水性メタリック樹脂組成物を、バーコーター(標準番手50)によりPETフィルム上に塗布することによって塗膜を作製した。そして、この塗膜の塗膜外観の目視評価を行なった。塗膜中の凝集物の有無を観察することにより、金属顔料の塗料中での凝集防止性を評価した。該評価方法は次の基準に従って評価し、その結果を表1の「凝集」の欄に示す。
「A」:凝集物が観察されない。
「B」:多数の凝集物が観察される。
Claims (9)
- 金属粒子上に有機カルボン酸金属塩を付着させた金属顔料。
- 金属粒子上に第1化合物を付着させ、該第1化合物上に有機カルボン酸金属塩を付着させた金属顔料であって、
前記第1化合物は、カルボン酸、エステル、アミン、アミド、およびアルコールからなる群より選ばれる少なくとも一種の化合物である、請求の範囲1に記載の金属顔料。 - 前記金属粒子は、アルミニウム粒子である請求の範囲1に記載の金属顔料。
- 前記有機カルボン酸金属塩を構成する金属元素は、銅である、請求の範囲1に記載の金属顔料。
- 前記有機カルボン酸金属塩を構成する金属元素は、前記金属粒子100質量部に対し、0.01~30質量部の量で含有される、請求の範囲1に記載の金属顔料。
- 前記有機カルボン酸金属塩は、前記金属粒子100質量部に対し、0.5~100質量部の量で含有される、請求の範囲1に記載の金属顔料。
- 請求の範囲1に記載の金属顔料を含む、水性メタリック樹脂組成物。
- 請求の範囲1に記載の金属顔料の製造方法であって、
前記金属粒子に対して第1化合物を付着させる工程と、
前記第1化合物が付着した金属粒子と前記有機カルボン酸金属塩とを混合する工程と、を含み、
前記第1化合物は、カルボン酸、エステル、アミン、アミド、およびアルコールからなる群より選ばれる少なくとも一種の化合物である、金属顔料の製造方法。
