본 발명은 전지 제조 장치 및 전지 제조 방법에 관한 것이다.
최근, 화석 연료의 고갈에 의한 에너지원의 가격 상승, 환경 오염의 관심이 증폭되며, 친환경 대체 에너지원에 대한 요구가 미래 생활을 위한 필수 불가결한 요인이 되고 있다. 이에 원자력, 태양광, 풍력, 조력 등 다양한 전력 생산 기술들에 대한 연구가 지속되고 있으며, 이렇게 생산된 에너지를 더욱 효율적으로 사용하기 위한 전력 저장 장치 또한 지대한 관심이 이어지고 있다.
더욱이, 모바일 기기와 전지 자동차에 대한 기술 개발과 수요가 증가함에 따라 에너지원으로서의 전지의 수요가 급격히 증가하고 있고, 그에 따라 다양한 요구에 부응할 수 있는 전지에 대한 많은 연구가 행해지고 있다. 특히, 재료 면에서는 높은 에너지 밀도, 방전 전압, 출력 안정성 등의 장점을 가진 리튬 이온 전지, 리튬 이온 폴리머 전지 등과 같은 리튬 이차 전지에 대한 수요가 높다.
이차 전지는 양극, 음극, 및 양극과 음극 사이에 개재되는 분리막이 적층된 구조의 전극 조립체가 어떠한 구조로 이루어져 있는지에 따라 분류된다. 대표적으로는, 긴 시트형의 양극과 음극을 분리막이 개재된 상태에서 권취한 구조의 젤리-롤형(권취형) 전극 조립체, 소정 크기의 단위로 절취한 다수의 양극과 음극들을 분리막을 개재한 상태로 순차적으로 적층한 스택형(적층형) 전극조립체 등을 들 수 있으며, 최근에는, 상기 젤리-롤형 전극 조립체 및 스택형 전극 조립체가 갖는 문제점을 해결하기 위해, 상기 젤리-롤형과 스택형의 혼합 형태인 진일보한 구조의 전극 조립체로서, 소정 단위의 양극과 음극들을 분리막을 개재한 상태로 적층한 단위셀들을 분리필름 상에 위치시킨 상태에서 순차적으로 권취한 구조의 스택/폴딩형 전극 조립체가 개발되었다.
이러한 전극 조립체들을 사용 목적에 따라, 파우치 케이스, 원통형 캔, 및 각형 케이스 등에 수납하여 전지를 제조한다.
이 중에서, 원통형 전지는 제조가 용이하고 중량당 에너지 밀도가 높은 장점을 가지고 있어, 휴대용 컴퓨터에서 전지 자동차에 이르기까지 다양한 기기들의 에너지원으로 사용되고 있다.
도 1은 종래의 원통형 전지 팩 제조 장치를 사용하여 양극 탭을 폴딩하는 것을 나타낸 모식도이다. 도 2는 도 1에서 지그와 나이프 사이에 탑 캡이 끼어있는 것을 나타낸 모식도이다.
도 1 및 도 2를 참조하면, 종래의 원통형 전지 제조 장치(10)는 지그(11)와 폴딩 나이프(12)를 사용하여 원통형 전지(30)의 양극 탭(31)을 폴딩(FOLDING)한다. 탑 캡(32)의 접속부(33)에 양극 탭(31)을 용접하고, 탑 캡(32)의 일측에 위치한 지그(11)를 제1 방향(A)으로 이동하며 탑 캡(32)을 가압하는 동시에 탑 캡(32)의 타측에 위치한 폴딩 나이프(12)를 제2 방향(B)으로 이동하며 절곡 부위(34)을 가압한다. 이때, 지그(11)와 폴딩 나이프(12)는 소정의 간격(H)만큼 이격된 상태로 서로 평행하게 이동한다.
하지만, 지그(11)와 폴딩 나이프(12)가 평행 이동할 때, 지그(11)와 폴딩 나이프(12) 사이에 탑 캡(32)의 끼임 현상이 발생하여 원통형 전지(30)의 외형이 손상될 뿐만 아니라 원통형 전지 제조 장치(10)의 오작동을 유발하는 문제점이 있다.
본 발명이 해결하고자 하는 과제는, 전극 탭 손상 및 전지 제조 설비의 오작동을 최소화할 수 있는 전지 제조 장치 및 전지 제조 방법을 제공하기 위한 것이다.
그러나, 본 발명의 실시예들이 해결하고자 하는 과제는 상술한 과제에 한정되지 않고 본 발명에 포함된 기술적 사상의 범위에서 다양하게 확장될 수 있다.
본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 전지 제조 장치는 탑 캡에 연결된 양극 탭을 절곡하여 원통형 전지를 제조하는 장치로서, 시계 추 스윙을 하며 상기 양극 탭을 가압하는 지그; 상기 시계 추 스윙의 회전 반경을 형성하는 조정부; 및 상기 양극 탭의 절곡 부위를 가압하는 폴딩 나이프;를 포함할 수 있다.
상기 조정부는 그 길이 조정을 통해 상기 지그의 하사점 위치를 결정할 수 있다.
상기 지그는 상기 하사점에서 상기 탑 캡에 접촉할 수 있다.
상기 지그가 상기 하사점에서 상기 탑 캡에 접촉한 이후 상기 지그와 상기 폴딩 나이프의 간격이 벌어지는 구조일 수 있다.
상기 조정부의 일측은 고정부에 연결될 수 있다.
상기 조정부의 타측은 상기 지그에 연결될 수 있다.
상기 지그는 상기 고정부를 중심으로 시계 추 스윙을 할 수 있다.
상기 폴딩 나이프는 수평 이동하여 상기 양극 탭의 절곡 부위를 가압할 수 있다.
상기 지그는 상기 지그의 표면에 탄성 부재를 포함할 수 있다.
상기 폴딩 나이프는 고기능 수지로 형성될 수 있다.
상기 고기능 수지는 폴리에테르에테르케톤일 수 있다.
본 발명은 또한 상기 전지 제조 장치를 이용하여 상기 원통형 전지를 제조하는 전지 제조 방법을 제공한다.
상기 방법은 상기 원통형 전지의 상기 탑 캡에 상기 양극 탭을 전기적으로 연결하는 단계를 포함할 수 있다.
상기 방법은 상기 탑 캡의 일측에 위치한 지그에 연결된 조정부의 길이를 조정하여 하사점 위치를 조정하는 단계를 포함할 수 있다.
상기 방법은 상기 지그를 시계 추 스윙하여 상기 탑 캡을 가압하는 단계를 포함할 수 있다.
상기 방법은 상기 탑 캡의 타측에 위치한 폴딩 나이프를 수평 이동하여 상기 양극 탭의 절곡 부위를 가압하는 단계를 포함할 수 있다.
상기 방법은 상기 조정부의 일측을 고정부에 고정하는 단계를 더 포함할 수 있다.
상기 방법은 상기 지그가 상기 하사점에서 상기 탑 캡에 접촉한 상태로 상기 탑 캡을 가압하는 단계를 더 포함할 수 있다.
상기 방법은 상기 지그가 상기 하사점에서 상기 탑 캡에 접촉한 이후 상기 지그와 상기 폴딩 나이프의 간격이 벌어지는 단계를 더 포함할 수 있다.
이상에서 설명한 바와 같이, 본 발명의 실시예에 따른 전지 제조 장치는 시계 추 스윙을 하는 지그와 지그의 하사점 위치를 조정하는 조정부를 포함함으로써 지그와 폴딩 나이프 사이에 탑 캡의 끼임 현상을 방지할 수 있다.

이하, 첨부한 도면을 참고로 하여 본 발명의 여러 실시예들에 대하여 본 발명이 속하는 기술 분야에서 통상의 지식을 가진 자가 용이하게 실시할 수 있도록 상세히 설명한다. 본 발명은 여러 가지 상이한 형태로 구현될 수 있으며 여기에서 설명하는 실시예들에 한정되지 않는다.
또한, 명세서 전체에서, 어떤 부분이 어떤 구성 요소를 "포함" 한다고 할 때, 이는 특별히 반대되는 기재가 없는 한 다른 구성요소를 제외하는 것이 아니라 다른 구성요소를 더 포함할 수 있는 것을 의미한다.
또한, 명세서 전체에서, "수평"이라 할 때, 이는 지면에 평행한 방향을 의미한다.
도 3은 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 전지 제조 장치를 나타낸 모식도이다. 도 4는 도 3의 전지 제조 장치를 사용 시 지그의 동작 모습을 나타낸 모식도이다.
도 3을 참조하면, 전지 제조 장치(100)는 지그(101), 조정부(102), 및 폴딩 나이프(103)를 포함할 수 있다. 지그(101)는 원통형 전지(200)에서 탑 캡(202)의 일측에 위치하고, 폴딩 나이프(103)는 탑 캡(202)의 타측에 위치할 수 있다. 그리고, 지그(101)는 조정부(102)에 연결될 수 있다.
지그(101)는 조정부(102)의 일측에 연결될 수 있고, 조정부(102)의 타측은 고정부(104)에 연결될 수 있다. 지그(101)는 탑 캡(202)을 가압할 때 시계 추 스윙을 할 수 있다. 여기서, "시계 추 스윙"은 고정부(104)를 중심으로 지그(101)가 시계 추와 같이 스윙하는 것을 의미한다.
지그(101)의 형상은 특별히 한정되지 않으나 지그(101)가 시계 추 스윙을 하며 탑 캡(202)을 가압할 때 지그(101)와 탑 캡(202)의 접촉면을 최소화할 수 있도록 원형 구 또는 원통 형상일 수 있다. 양극 탭(201)은 일반적으로 연성(DUCTILITY)이 좋은 금속 재료로 이루어지고 폭에 대비하여 길이가 긴 띠 형상이기 때문에 양극 탭(201)을 절곡하기 위해 높은 가압력을 필요로 하지 않는다. 따라서, 지그(101)를 원형 구 또는 원통 형상으로 제작하더라도 양극 탭(201)을 절곡할 수 있는 충분한 가압력을 양극 탭(201)에 전달할 수 있다. 이러한 구조에 의해서, 지그(101)와 탑 캡(202)의 접촉면을 최소화하여 지그(101)가 탑 캡(202)을 가압할 때 탑 캡(202)의 외관이 손상되지 않도록 할 수 있다.
도 4를 참고하면, 조정부(102)는 고정부(104)와 지그(101)를 연결하고 지그(101)가 시계 추 스윙을 하는 회전 반경을 형성할 수 있다. 조정부(102)는 조정부(102)의 길이를 조정하여 하사점(L)의 위치를 조정할 수 있다. 여기서, 하사점(L)은 지그(101)가 시계 추 스윙을 하는 궤도에서 지면과 가장 가까운 지점을 의미한다. 하사점(L)의 위치에 따라 지그(101)가 탑 캡(202)에 접촉하는 위치가 결정될 수 있다.
지그(101)가 시계 추 스윙을 하며 원통형 전지(200)의 탑 캡(202)에 접촉한 상태로 탑 캡(202)을 가압할 때, 폴딩 나이프(103)는 도 3에 도시한 제2 방향(B)을 따라 수평 이동하여 양극 탭(201)의 절곡 부위(203)에 접촉한 상태에서 절곡 부위(203)를 가압할 수 있다. 이러한 구조에 의해서, 절곡 부위(203)에서만 양극 탭(201)이 절곡될 수 있다.
폴딩 나이프(103)의 형상은 특별히 한정되지 않으나, 하나의 예로써, 폭에 대비하여 길이가 긴 띠 형상일 수 있다. 그리고, 폴딩 나이프(103)에 의해서 양극 탭(201)의 절곡 부위(203)가 손상되는 것을 방지하기 위해, 절곡 부위(203)에 접촉하는 폴딩 나이프(103)의 끝 부분은 라운딩 형상으로 가공될 수 있다.
폴딩 나이프(103)는, 양극 탭(201) 및 원통형 전지(200) 내부의 전해액과의 반복적 접촉에도, 물리 화학적으로 변화지 않는 소재로 형성될 수 있다. 하나의 예로써, 폴딩 나이프(103)는 스테인레스강과 같은 금속으로 형성될 수 있다. 이 경우, 폴딩 나이프(103)는 우수한 내구성을 가지므로 물리적 변형없이 양극 탭(201)의 절곡 부위(203)를 소정의 압력으로 가압할 수 있다.
또한, 폴딩 나이프(103)는 폴리에테르에테르케톤(POLYETHERETHERKETONE)와 같은 고기능 수지로 형성될 수 있다. 폴리에테르에테르케톤는 유기 용매에도 녹지 않는 준결정성 수지로써 우수한 내화학성을 가지고 있을 뿐만 아니라 높은 강도를 가지므로 양극 탭(201)의 절곡 부위(203)를 소정의 압력으로 가압할 수 있다. 또한, 고기능 수지로 형성된 폴딩 나이프(103)을 사용할 경우, 절곡 공정에서 발생하는 금속 이물이 원통형 전지(200) 내부로 유입되는 것을 방지할 수 있다.
지그(101)는 하사점(L)에서 탑 캡(202)에 접촉하고 시계 추 스윙 궤도에 따라 제3 방향(C)을 따라 이동할 수 있다. 여기서, "제3 방향"은 지면에 대해 중력이 작용하는 반대 방향을 의미한다. 이러한 구조에 의해서, 지그(101)가 하사점(L)에서 탑 캡(202)에 접촉한 이후 지그(101)와 폴딩 나이프(103) 사이의 간격이 벌어지기 때문에 탑 캡(202)이 지그(101)와 폴딩 나이프(103) 사이에 끼이는 것을 방지할 수 있다. 또한, 양극 탭(201)이 절곡 부위(203)에서 소망하는 각도로 절곡될 수 있기 때문에 양극 탭(201)이 금속 캔(210)에 접촉하여 단락이 발생하는 것을 방지할 수 있다.
지그(101)는 그 표면에 탄성 부재(105)를 포함할 수 있다. 탄성 부재(105)는 지그(101)가 탑 캡(202)을 가압할 때 탑 캡(202)의 외형이 손상되는 것을 방지할 수 있다.
본 발명은 전지 제조 장치(100)을 이용하여 원통형 전지(200)을 제조하는 방법을 제공한다.
상기 방법은 원통형 전지(200)의 탑 캡(202)에 양극 탭(201)을 전기적으로 연결하는 단계를 포함할 수 있다. 작업자는 저항 용접 또는 레이저 용접 등을 이용하여 양극 탭(201)을 탑 캡(202)에 연결할 수 있다.
그리고, 상기 방법은 조정부(102)의 일측을 고정부(104)에 연결하는 단계를 포함할 수 있다.
그리고, 상기 방법은 탑 캡(202)의 일측에 위치한 지그(101)에 연결된 조정부(102)의 길이를 조정하여 하사점(L) 위치를 조정하는 단계를 포함할 수 있다. 작업자는 지그(101)의 회전 반경과 폴딩 나이프(103)의 위치를 고려하여 하사점(L)의 위치를 조정할 수 있다.
그리고, 상기 방법은 지그(101)를 시계 추 스윙하여 탑 캡(202)을 가압하는 단계를 포함할 수 있다. 작업자는 지그(101)가 하사점(L)에서 탑 캡(202)에 접촉한 상태로 탑 캡(202)을 가압하도록 지그(101)가 움직이는 속도를 적절히 조절할 수 있다. 또한, 작업자는 지그(101)가 탑 캡(202)을 가압하는 압력을 적절히 조절하여 탑 캡(202)의 외형이 변형되는 것을 방지할 수 있다.
그리고, 상기 방법은 탑 캡(202)의 타측에 위치한 폴딩 나이프(103)를 수평 이동하여 양극 탭(201)의 절곡 부위(203)를 가압하는 단계를 포함할 수 있다. 작업자는 지그(101)가 시계 추 스윙하며 탑 캡(202)에 접촉할 때 폴딩 나이프(103)도 절곡 부위(203)에 도달하도록 하여 절곡 부위(203)에서 양극 탭(201)이 절곡되도록 할 수 있다.
그리고, 상기 방법은 지그(101)가 하사점(L)에서 탑 캡(202)에 접촉한 후 지그(101)와 폴딩 나이프(103)의 간격이 벌어지는 단계를 포함할 수 있다.
본 발명이 속한 분야에서 통상의 지식을 가진 자라면, 상기 내용을 바탕을 본 발명의 범주 내에서 다양한 응용 및 변형을 행하는 것이 가능할 것이다.

Claims (15)

  1. 탑 캡에 연결된 양극 탭을 절곡하여 원통형 전지를 제조하는 전지 제조 장치로서,
    시계 추 스윙을 하며 상기 양극 탭을 가압하는 지그;
    상기 시계 추 스윙의 회전 반경을 형성하는 조정부; 및
    상기 양극 탭의 절곡 부위를 가압하는 폴딩 나이프;
    를 포함하는 전지 제조 장치.
  2. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 조정부는 그 길이 조정을 통해 상기 지그의 하사점 위치를 결정하는 전지 제조 장치.
  3. 제2항에 있어서,
    상기 지그는 상기 하사점에서 상기 탑 캡에 접촉하는 전지 제조 장치.
  4. 제3항에 있어서,
    상기 지그가 상기 하사점에서 상기 탑 캡에 접촉한 이후 상기 지그와 상기 폴딩 나이프의 간격이 벌어지는 전지 제조 장치.
  5. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 조정부의 일측은 고정부에 연결된 전지 제조 장치
  6. 제5항에 있어서
    상기 조정부의 타측은 상기 지그에 연결된 전지 제조 장치.
  7. 제4항에 있어서,
    상기 지그는 상기 고정부를 중심으로 시계 추 스윙을 하는 전지 제조 장치.
  8. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 폴딩 나이프는 수평 이동하여 상기 양극 탭의 절곡 부위를 가압하는 전지 제조 장치.
  9. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 지그는 상기 지그의 표면에 탄성 부재를 포함하는 전지 제조 장치.
  10. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 폴딩 나이프는 고기능 수지로 형성된 전지 제조 장치.
  11. 제10항에 있어서,
    상기 고기능 수지는 폴리에테르에테르케톤인 전지 제조 장치.
  12. 원통형 전지의 탑 캡에 양극 탭을 전기적으로 연결하는 단계;
    상기 탑 캡의 일측에 위치한 지그에 연결된 조정부의 길이를 조정하여 하사점 위치를 조정하는 단계;
    상기 지그를 시계 추 스윙하여 상기 탑 캡을 가압하는 단계; 및
    상기 탑 캡의 타측에 위치한 폴딩 나이프를 수평 이동하여 상기 양극 탭의 절곡 부위를 가압하는 단계;
    를 포함하는 전지 제조 방법.
  13. 제12항에 있어서,
    상기 조정부의 일측을 고정부에 연결하는 단계를 더 포함하는 전지 제조 방법.
  14. 제12항에 있어서,
    상기 지그가 상기 하사점에서 상기 탑 캡에 접촉한 상태로 상기 탑 캡을 가압하는 단계를 더 포함하는 전지 제조 방법.
  15. 제12항에 있어서,
    상기 지그가 상기 하사점에서 상기 탑 캡에 접촉한 이후 상기 지그와 상기 폴딩 나이프의 간격이 벌어지는 단계를 더 포함하는 전지 제조 방법.
