Definitions
- the present invention relates to a device for receiving a toilet cleaning agent, in particular for hanging in a toilet bowl.
- Such devices are known, for example, from EP 3 109 367 A1. They contain a cleaning agent arranged within a housing, which is either solid (for example pressed from powder), pasty or gel-like and which is gradually flushed out for cleaning purposes when the toilet is flushed.
- the problem to be solved in such devices is how the cleaning agent can be packaged in a gas-tight and water-vapor-tight manner.
- sealing foils on aluminum or plastic have been known so far, such as, for example, pressed against a sealing edge from above under the action of heat.
- this method can only be used to seal housings with certain geometries.
- a device for receiving a toilet cleaning agent which has a housing receiving the toilet cleaning agent with at least one opening and a gas- and water-vapor-tight seal of the opening, the seal being made by a peelable plastic film applied under negative pressure, in particular vacuum is formed.
- Such plastic films are often referred to as skin films and have the advantage that they can be plastically deformed very easily. For this purpose, they can in particular be preheated and then placed over the opening to be sealed. Such films are because they are under Applied in a vacuum and plastic, close to the product, in the present case to the housing and the toilet cleaning agent arranged therein.
- An adhesive layer can also be arranged between the skin film and the housing.
- An opening of the housing is understood here and below not only to mean a main opening of the housing, which can serve both to fill the housing and to flush out the toilet cleaning agent during use, but also to mean smaller gaps, for example when connecting individual, adjacent housing parts are formed. With the help of the plastic film, both large and small openings can be sealed particularly easily.
- Such a seal is particularly suitable for devices with curved surfaces, in particular spherical shapes, since the skin films are particularly tight and crease-free against surfaces of practically any shape. This allows great freedom of design.
- the opening does not have to be flat, so the edge of the opening does not have to lie in a common plane.
- the sealing area is considerably enlarged compared to a conventional sealing edge.
- the seal is particularly reliable and micro-leaks can be reduced.
- the film If the film is tightly connected to the housing, then under normal conditions, i.e. after the pressure equalization following the sealing, it also lies firmly against the cleaning agent. Because of the pressure difference prevailing between the interior and the exterior, a gel-like cleaning agent in particular is pressed upwards on the inner walls of the housing. In this way, the otherwise empty head space is filled.
- the plastic film is designed to be peelable.
- it can in particular have a grip tab and, moreover, be designed in such a way that the surface of the plastic film that is in contact with the housing can be detached from it again with sufficient ease.
- the peelability or “peelability” can in particular be achieved through a suitable choice of material and suitably selected parameters during sealing.
- the at least one opening sealed with the plastic film is designed as a main opening of the housing provided for filling the housing and for flushing out the toilet cleaning agent.
- a main opening can in particular be provided in an upper side of the housing. It is also possible to provide several such openings. Sealing the opening after the housing has been filled has the advantage that, in particular, gel-like toilet cleaning agents cannot dry out during storage and the toilet cleaning agents thus have good formulation stability. In addition, leaks are reduced.
- the sealing of such openings has the advantage that the toilet cleaning agent better fills an otherwise empty head space of the housing due to the pressure difference between the interior and exterior. This is particularly the case when the film penetrates the head space and thereby deforms gel-like toilet cleaning agent and displaces it to the edge area. Furthermore, this has the advantage that if the toilet cleaning agent liquefies, for example as a result of increased temperature, it is kept dimensionally stable by the film.
- the at least one opening sealed with the plastic film is designed as a gap between adjacent housing parts of the housing.
- the seal also serves at least to achieve sufficient tightness of the housing itself.
- the housing can be composed of two half-shells, for example, which do not necessarily have to be tightly connected to one another. Rather, a non-positive connection of hemispheres produced by injection molding, for example, would be sufficient, since a gap between the adjacent housing parts can be sealed by means of the plastic film.
- the housing has at least one upper housing part and one lower housing part and the lower housing part and the upper housing part are connected to one another in a connection area, the seal covering the connection area in a gas-tight and water-vapor-tight manner.
- the plastic film can also, in particular, also cover a main opening which is formed in one or in both housing parts.
- the plastic film can in particular have polyethylene (PE) and / or polyamide (PA) and, if appropriate, further layers, in particular barrier layers. Plastic films with a PE sealing side that can be peeled off are particularly suitable.
- the plastic film has, in particular, a thickness d of 5 micrometers ⁇ d ⁇
- Such films can be plastically deformed particularly easily and placed tightly against the housing.
- a gel-like toilet cleaning agent is arranged in the housing. It is also conceivable to use solid or pasty or liquid cleaning agents. However, the gas- and water-vapor-tight sealing by means of the plastic film is particularly advantageous in the case of gel-type toilet cleaning agents, because they require such a seal.
- a method for producing a device for receiving a toilet cleaning agent comprising providing a housing for receiving the toilet cleaning agent, filling the housing with toilet cleaning agent and providing a plastic film which is plastic due to the action of heat.
- the method further comprises sealing at least one opening of the filled housing from the outside under negative pressure, in particular vacuum, with the plastic film.
- a plastic film which is plasticized by the action of heat is understood to be a plastic film which is plastically deformable in such a way that it can be placed over the housing without creases, even if it is, for example, spherical.
- negative pressure is understood to mean an absolute air pressure of less than 1013 mbar, in particular less than 600 mbar.
- a vacuum is understood to mean an absolute air pressure of 300 mbar or less.
- the housing is filled with a toilet cleaning agent in the form of a liquid gel.
- 300 ° C takes place, in particular 90 ° C ⁇ T ⁇ 160 ° C.
- the sealing can be carried out in such a way that the plastic film can be peeled off, that is to say that a surface of the plastic film which is in contact with the housing separates from the sealing surfaces before the film becomes free. This ensures that the device can be handled particularly well.
- Figure 1 shows schematically a side view of a device for receiving a toilet cleaning agent according to an embodiment of the invention
- FIG. 2 schematically shows a sectional view of the device according to FIG. 1;
- Figure 3 shows a detail of Figure 2
- FIG. 4 shows a further state of the device according to FIG. 1.
- FIG. 1 shows a device 1 for receiving a toilet cleaning agent according to an embodiment of the invention, which is provided for hanging in a toilet bowl.
- the device 1 has a housing 2 which is formed in particular from plastic.
- the housing 2 is almost spherical with a main opening 3 of oval cross-section on its upper side.
- the housing 2 can be filled with toilet cleaning agent through the main opening 3 and, during use, water penetrates the housing 2 through the main opening 3 and flushes out toilet cleaning agent.
- the housing 2 is filled with a gel-like toilet cleaning agent.
- the dotted line 5 shows the level immediately after filling with the liquid toilet cleaning agent.
- the housing 2 is sealed by a plastic film 4 that covers at least the main opening 3 and, in the embodiment shown, extends over the upper half of the housing 2.
- the plastic film 4 is a so-called skin film, i.e. a thin plastic film with a thickness in the sub-millimeter range, which was placed over the main opening 3 in the heated state and under vacuum.
- the plastic film 4 lies tightly and without creases on the surfaces under normal conditions, ie in particular on the outside of the housing 2 and on the surface of the toilet cleaning agent arranged in the housing 2.
- the plastic film 4 seals the interior of the housing 2 in a gas-tight and water-vapor-tight manner.
- the negative pressure prevailing inside the housing 2 can cause the plastic film 4 to be pressed so far into the housing 2 that the toilet cleaning agent is pushed up through the plastic film 4 on the inner walls of the housing 2, so that a fill level can be seen from the outside results in how indicated schematically by the dashed line 6. This is explained in more detail in connection with FIG.
- the plastic film 4 thus enables gas-tight and water-vapor-tight sealing of the main opening 3. Before the device 1 is used, the plastic film 4 is pulled off by the user. For this purpose, it is designed in particular to be easily removable (peelable) and can have a grip tab (not shown in FIG. 1).
- FIG. 2 shows a sectional view of the device 1 according to Figure 1, in a state before the film 4 is pressed so far into the interior that the level of the toilet cleaning agent - not shown here - increases.
- the housing 2 consists of a lower housing part 7 and an upper housing part 8, both of which have approximately the shape of hemispheres, the main opening 3 being arranged in the upper housing part 8. This has the advantage that the two halves can be manufactured particularly easily, for example by injection molding.
- a gap 9 can form, which is not completely gas- and water-vapor-tight.
- connection between the lower housing part 7 and the upper housing part 8 shown in FIG. 3 is a snap connection, which can be designed in particular positively or non-positively, but which is not necessarily designed to be gas- and water-vapor-tight.
- the plastic film 4 is therefore drawn over the gap 9 in order to seal the main opening 3 in a gas-tight and water-vapor-tight manner at the same time.
- the plastic film 4 accordingly extends beyond the gap 9 and ends in the area of the lower housing part 7. It also has a tab 10 which makes it easier for the user to remove the plastic film 4 before using the device 1.
- FIG. 4 shows a state of the device 1 in which the pressure difference between the interior of the housing and the environment is sufficiently high so that the film 4 is pressed far enough into the interior of the housing 2 that - at least during the sealing and the application of negative pressure deformable - toilet cleaning agent 11 is displaced by the film 4.
- the film 4 can advantageously be stretchable, but this is not necessary.
- the displacement reduces the volume of the head space 12 free of toilet cleaning agent 11.
- the toilet cleaning agent 11 is also kept mechanically stable, for example if it does not solidify or liquefies again after solidification .
- the exposed surface of the toilet cleaning agent 11 - shown here by the dashed line between the toilet cleaning agent 11 and the head space 12 - is reduced so that less liquid can evaporate therefrom.
- the procedure for sealing is as follows: The housing 2 is filled with warm, liquid, gel-like toilet cleaning agent to below the main opening 3. A plastic film 4 preheated to 120 ° C. is then separated from the outside atmosphere with the filled, open-topped device 1 in a vacuum chamber. An absolute negative pressure of 150 mbar, which is referred to below as a vacuum, is generated in the chamber, and the plastic film 4 is placed on the housing 2.
- the plastic film 4 sucks inward through the vacuum that now exists in the interior of the housing 2 and presses the cleaning agent upward on the walls.
- the negative pressure inside is maintained because the sealing means that no pressure equalization is possible. If necessary, the level in the housing 2 rises as described above.
- the housing 2 is tightly closed so that the formulation is stable on storage until it is opened by a user.
