Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

  Verfahren zur Herstellung waschbeständiger steifer Gewebe.
 EMI1.1

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

   In the manner described, it is possible to reduce the consumption of adhesives compared to the known process in which dry fabrics with solutions of the resin in organic solvents are used, or the adhesiveness d? r treated tissue to increase.

   The process can also be carried out in such a way that films or foils made of vinyl ester polymers are placed between the fabric layers to be bonded and the bond is likewise effected by means of pressure and heat. Hiebei can z. B. two fabric layers are glued together by means of a suitably perforated polyvinyl ester film or you can glue an intermediate fabric by means of two thin polyvinyl ester foils applied to each side with two cover fabrics. The films or sheets to be used hiebei can be used in a known manner, for. B. from solutions of the resins with the addition of suitable plasticizers u. Like., can be obtained.

   This embodiment of the method according to the patent, like the treatment with an aqueous emulsion described above, has the advantage that the manufacturer of the laundry items does not need to use any volatile, flammable or toxic organic solvents.

   Polyvinyl ester resins which can be used for the present process are those which soften and stick at ironing temperatures. The following representatives may be mentioned as examples: polyvinyl acetate, mixtures of polyvinyl acetate and polyvinyl chloride, copolymers of polyvinyl acetate and polyvinyl chloride. Mixtures or copolymers of polyvinyl ester resins with other polymers or polymerizable compounds which soften and stick at ironing temperatures can also be used for the present process.

   Example 1: A water-moist cotton fabric is impregnated on both sides on the doctor blade machine with a 40% solution of polyvinyl acetate in acetone / alcohol (50:50). After drying, the impregnated fabric is sewn to the balls of fabric to be glued, the multilayer fabric obtained is wetted with water and then hot-pressed or ironed. After cooling, the tissue has completely bonded.

   Example 2: A cotton fabric is impregnated with a 50% aqueous emulsion of polyvinyl acetate. The impregnated material is further processed in the same way as described in Example 1. Here, too, a complete bond of the fabric webs is achieved.

   Example 3: A water-moist cotton fabric is impregnated on a padder with a solution containing 30% polyvinyl acetate and 10% polyvinyl chloride in Acefon. After drying, the impregnated fabric is sewn to the fabric webs to be bonded, the multilayer fabric obtained is wetted with water and then hot-pressed or ironed. After cooling, the result is a semi-rigid fabric that retains its semi-rigid feel even after repeated washing.

   Instead of the mixture of polyvinyl acetate and polyvinyl chloride, it is also possible to use a copolymer of 75% vinyl acetate and 25% vinyl chloride.

   PATENT CLAIMS:
1. A process for the production of wash-resistant stiff fabrics by impregnating and subsequently gluing several layers of fabric with vinyl ester polymers, characterized in that the impregnation with the vinyl ester polymers is combined with prior or simultaneous moistening of the base fabric with water.
