Description

Process for the production of semi-rigid laundry items. The present invention relates to a method for producing semi-rigid laundry items such as collars, cuffs and the like.

It has already been proposed to produce such items of laundry by impregnating a dry interlining fabric with a solution of a thermoplastic synthetic resin in an organic solvent, where the fabric is soaked through and through with the synthetic resin, and the so impregnated fabric under pressure and heat glued with cover fabric.

It has now been found that it is more advantageous not to use an interlining fabric that is impregnated through and through with the synthetic resin, but rather the bonding and stiffening of the several layers of fabric required for the production of semi-stiff laundry items with the help of superficial coatings, respectively . to undertake layers of vinyl ester polymers placed between the fabric layers, which become sticky at ironing temperature. A preferred embodiment of the method consists in that interlining materials are used which have been obtained by coating a fabric that is moist with a solution of a polyvinyl ester resin in an organic solvent.

Here, the polyvinyl ester resin has hardly penetrated into the fabric, but is essentially located on the surface of the same. After drying, the fabric treated in this way can easily be combined with other fabric layers, especially when it is moist, by means of pressure and heat.

   - In a similar way, you can use an interlining material that has a polyvinyl ester resin layer, which was obtained by coating the fabric with an aqueous emulsion of a vinyl ester polymer. The fabric can of course also be covered only in places with the polyvinyl ester resin layer. It succeeds in the manner described, the consumption of adhesive compared to the known method in which dry tissue are used with solutions of the resin in orga African solvents, reduce BEZW. to increase the adhesiveness of the treated fabric.

The method according to the invention also offers the advantage that the manufacturer of the laundry items does not need to use any volatile, flammable or toxic organic solvents.

Of polyvinyl ester resins, those come into consideration for the present process that soften and stick at ironing temperatures. The following representatives may be mentioned as examples: polyvinyl acetate, mixtures of polyvinyl acetate and polyvinyl chloride,

Copolymers of polyvinyl acetate and polyvinyl chloride. Mixtures or Copolymers of polyvinyl ester resins with other polymers respectively. polymerizable compounds that soften and stick at ironing temperatures can be used for the present process.

Example 1: An interlining fabric obtained by treating both sides of a water-moist cotton fabric with a 40% solution of polyvinyl acetate in acetone / alcohol (50:50) on a doctor blade machine and then drying , is sewn to the webs of fabric to be glued, the multilayer fabric obtained is wetted with water and then hot-pressed or ironed.

After cooling, the tissues have completely adhered.

Example 2: An interlining material obtained by treating a cotton fabric on both sides with a 50% aqueous emulsion of polyvinyl acetate and then drying it is processed in the same way as described in Example 1 . Here, too, a complete bond of the fabric webs is achieved.

Example 3: An interlining material obtained by impregnating a water-moist cotton fabric with a solution containing 30% polyvinyl acetate and 10% polyvinyl chloride in acetone on a padder and then drying it is used with the Fabric webs are sewn, the multilayer fabric obtained is wetted with water and then hot-pressed or ironed. After cooling, the result is a semi-rigid fabric that retains its semi-rigid feel even after repeated washing.

Instead of a mixture of polyvinyl acetate and polyvinyl chloride, the interlining material can also be impregnated with a mixed polymer of 75% vinyl acetate and 26% vinyl chloride.
