<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Fig. 5 est une vue en plan correspondant a la fig. 4 ;
Fig. 6 représente un dispositif avec serpentin réfrigérant .

Method and apparatus for refining, annealing and cooling.
The present invention relates to a method and a device for refining, annealing and cooling certain objects, in particular rings or rings made of metal wire. For the processing of metal wires, for example drawn wires and large ring-shaped steel wires, the metal rings have heretofore generally been heated in a muffle furnace, to the temperature of curing, and thereafter. dives in a lead bath.
It is then necessary, before subjecting them to a subsequent refining, subject it to the action of a mordant, lime them and dry them again. In addition, a lot of lead remains adhering to the wires, which means; Makes them substandard for a lot of uses. Consumption of lead makes the process more expensive.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
According to the invention, these drawbacks are overcome and the conditions of the treatment are improved, making it more uniform and more adjustable. During cooling, heat recovery can be carried out.
The material to be treated is no longer, as was done until now, immersed directly in the bath, for example the lead bath, but in a container which is surrounded by the bath. One can for example, enclose the material to be treated in drums, and immerse the latter in the bath. The drums are then preferably adjusted to the shape affected by the material being processed.
It is even better to use a double-walled container, the envelope of which contains the bath. The material to be treated can then be placed directly in the interior of this container, or rather a pot containing the material can be placed there. For the treatment of metal rings or rings, a double-walled container having an annular internal chamber and a pot of annular section will preferably be employed. To receive a lead bath, the walls of the casing will preferably be reinforced by ribs.
The space forming the jacket is provided with supply and discharge pipes, to allow, during cooling, the circulation of the liquid of the bath, for example oil or water, and to allow to obtain a more intense and more uniform effect. When water is used it is possible, by means of the device, to produce hot water in order to partially recover the heat.
To refine, for example, the pot containing the material is brought into the tank surrounded by the bath, as soon as the material reaches the hardening temperature. There is then no sudden action, but a treatment progressing quietly, the circulation of the liquid allowing adjustment within wide limits. If oil is used, oil vapors may surround the pot, these vapors preventing the oxygen from permeating.

get into the pot, which is obtained when a lead bath is used, for example by introducing charcoal or another solid or liquid fuel.
A very regular annealing is obtained and free of oxide, if the pot containing the material to be treated is introduced into the double-walled container, the intermediate space between the two walls of which contains the lead bath brought to the prescribed temperature, the container being maintained, by external heating, at the desired temperature. This results in perfect heat distribution and absolutely uniform annealing of all parts. This process is particularly suitable for the annealing of high value materials.
The uniform cooling device can be used in the same way and thus recover heat, as was explained above. The intermediate space between the two walls is then preferably isolated from the annular interior space by means of two covers, placed one on the autotrader) the internal cover covering the internal space, and the the other covering the entire container.
The material can also be allowed to cool, with or without an annealing pot, in a cooling chamber which contains inside a device for circulating water, for example a cooling coil forming a jacket or envelope. The monitoring of this device is simple and by regulating the circulation of the coolant, one can exert a considerable influence on the cooling and, consequently, on the texture of the material.
The accompanying drawings represent examples of devices for carrying out the method. In these drawings:
Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section through a double-walled container with an annular internal space; Fig 2 is a corresponding cross section; Fig. 3 shows a double-lid container
Fig. 4 shows a sectional drum
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
Fig. 5 is a plan view corresponding to FIG. 4;
Fig. 6 shows a device with a cooling coil.
In the device established according to FIGS. 1 and 2, the double-walled tank a contains an internal space b of annular section, and which contains the annealing vessel c, also of annular section. The intermediate space d between the double walls, and the space e located in the middle of the container, which can be opened or which has an air discharge valve, contains the liquid constituting the bath, for example lead , oil or 'water. The walls of the intermediate space and of the interior part of the container are reinforced by ribs f.
The cover is immersed in the bath and thus hermetically seals the annealing or cooling chamber b. The oxygen which is in b can be rendered harmless or be eliminated, for example, by glowing charcoal, or by the release, supply or passage of gases or vapors. h and 1 designate the inlet and outlet pipe connections.
Fig. 3 shows a device with two covers k and m for isolating the intermediate space d from the interior space and from the exterior air. The cover k carries the exhaust air duct n.
Figs. 4 and 5 show a drum which can be tanned, which can receive metal rings and can be introduced, with the material to be treated, into the lead bath. The drum o of sec. ring, has a detachable end wall p. The interior space r of the drum is closed, on the side facing the cover, by the wall S, and is, open on the other side, so that the drum can be surrounded by the lead of the drum. bath.
During the heat treatment in the lead bath, it is of course necessary for the upward force of the treatment tank to be combated by a diving or anchoring device.
In the arrangement established according to FIG. 6, there has been arranged inside the double-walled refrigerating container: walls, a

coil t forming envelope. The cylindrical pot u containing the material to be treated is placed inside the coil. One could also introduce the material without using a special pot.
