<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
4), peuvent être déplacées an-
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

Decortication and desiccation apparatus.
The present invention relates to a dehulling and desiccating apparatus, intended more particularly for palm nuts. Dehulling apparatus is already known; however, in these ,. the shelling is carried out intermittently, that is to say that a certain quantity of fruit is each time loaded into the apparatus and shelled in oelui-oi. This process is complicated and takes a long time. The object of the invention is to obtain an apparatus which allows continuous decorti @ ation and simultaneously desioation of the nuts and which is distinguished by a particularly advantageous method of construction.
This is achieved by a sieve-forming drum, rotatably mounted and heatable, which is provided at one of its ends with a loading opening for the material to be treated, fed uninterruptedly, and , @ at its other end, an evacuation opening for
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
the husked and dried material, while the fibers or the like removed by the husk are discharged through the side wall of the drum.
In the accompanying drawing is shown an embodiment of the object of the invention:
Fig. 1 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view through a decortication and desiccation apparatus.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view along the line
A-B, and
Fig. 3 a sectional view taken along line C-D of FIG. 1, these two sections being seen from the left.
Fig. 4 shows, on a larger scale, a detail of the apparatus, seen in the direction of the arrow x "in Fig. 1.
In a drum forming a sieve 1, mounted so as to be able to turn, which advantageously has a polygonal shape and is provided at its periphery with deoortication plates with a @ are acute, transverse partitions 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 are arranged. , which are rigidly fixed to a hot air supply tube 7, passing longitudinally through the drum 1 and mounted in a fixed position, exoentrically with respect to the axis of this drum, The drum 1 is supported at its two ends, by means of rolling rings 8, on rollers 9 and is actuated by a pinion 11, which meshes with a toothed ring 10, formed on one of the rolling rings 8.
The partitions 2 and 6 close the drum to the outside, while the partitions 3, 4 and 5 divide the drum into different chambers 12 to 15. The chambers 12 and 13 communicate with each other, because the partition 3 is not connected. does not extend all the way to the. inner wall of drum 1, by

the cross section between the drum and the partition 3, while the chambers 14 ′ and 15 are closed by annular transverse partitions 16, fixed inside the drum and with which the fixed partitions 4 and 5 cooperate.
In each chamber 12 to 15 are formed distribution channels 17, 18, 19 and 20 respectively, which are connected to the hot air supply tube 7 and which serve to pass the hot air into the rooms, The tubes 7 is divided by longitudinal partitions 21 into separate channels, of a transverse section in the form of a sector and each of which opens into a distributor channel. The lower end of the upper wall of the distributor channels 17 to 20 is formed by a shell plate 22 to 25, in the form of a screen, which can be raised and folded down.
On each of the transverse partitions 4, 5 and 6 are arranged, inside the chambers 13, 14 and 15, collecting devices 26, 27 and 38, which are constituted essentially by plates arranged angularly l 'relative to each other and located in front of an opening 29, 30 and 31 of the transverse partitions 4, 5 and 6. On each collecting device is attached a register 32, 33 and 34, which can, in order to make vary the passage section, be brought into different positions by a system of rods 35, 36, and 37, leading to the outside and being able to be immobilized. In front of the opening 31 of the partition 6 is placed externally an evacuation duct 38
The loading of the mops is produced by a supply tube 39, which opens into a tube 40, penetrating inside the drum.
In this tube 40
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
There is a conveyor screw 41, which can be rotated by a belt drive 42.
On the inner wall of the drum 1 are provided conveyor blades 43 (FIG. 4), which will be discussed in more detail later, as well as lifting blades 44. These lifting blades
44 are located in the same transverse planes as the collecting devices 26, 27, and 28. In addition, driving arms 45 are arranged inside the drum. The whole drum is surrounded by a casing 46 * which has the shape of a hopper downwards, and in the lower part of which is mounted a conveyor screw 47 extending over the entire length of the casing. This conveyor screw is driven in a rotational movement by a belt drive 48. The two belt drives 42 and 48 are connected to the shaft 49 actuating the pinion 11.
The evacuation of the conveyor screw 4 @ takes place for the opening @ 0. The hot air brought in by tube 7 (according to arrow y), after it has passed through the chambers of the drum, exits through tube 51 (according to arrow z).
The operating mode of the apparatus is as follows: the apparatus is first set in motion by rotating the shaft 49, that is to say that the drum 1 and the conveyor screws 41 and 47 rotate.
The fruits to be shelled, from which the oil has been extracted by compression, are then introduced into the tube 39 and driven by the conveyor screw 41 inside the drum rotating in the direction of the arrow x. At the same time, hot air is blown, which
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
is divided by the longitudinal partitions 21 into separate currents and which is brought to the chambers 12 to 15 through the distribution channels 17 to 20.
The fruits falling into the chamber 12, which, as a result of the rotational movement of the drum, eventually accumulate along the dashed line 52 (figs. 2 and 3 are driven by the rotating drum sieve and by the arms. 45 to a certain height and then fall again under the action of gravity, sliding along the sharp-edged inner wall of the sieve-drum. This game is repeated uninterruptedly. drive arm 45 producing a vigorous mixing and stirring of the material Part of the fruit also slides past the deoortioation plate 22, so that a new shelling results.
The fibers, released by this vigorous dehulling action, penetrate, assisted by the influence of the hot air flowing from the distributor channel 17, through the perforations of the screen drum (see arrows y '). The remaining material is pushed back by the conveyor blades 43 into the chamber 13 and is again subjected therein to desioation and decortication.
From chamber 13, the material is fed by elevator blades 44 into collecting device 26 (see arrow x 'in fig. 3) and falls into chamber 14, as in the first two chambers 12 and 13, the much / larger part of the fibers has already been removed by decortication and evacuated, only shelled walnuts, mixed with some unshelled fruits, in this chamber, as well as in the next chamber 15, the last deoorti- cation and separation of the fibers take place. At the same time, the air
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
hot, flowing from distribution channels 1 @ and 20, which is hottest in channel 20 according to the method of heating,
produces a very good desioation of the already cleaned nuts in chamber 15. By desiccating and repeatedly dropping the nuts, the kernels of the nuts are released. Nuts falling from discharge chute 38 can immediately be subjected to further processing in nut breaking machines. Fibers fallen through the perforations of the screen collect at the bottom of the casing 46 and are fed by the conveyor screw 47 in the direction of the arrow z 'to the discharge opening 50.
If the nuts reach this discharge opening without being sufficiently cleaned yet, it is possible, by simultaneously reducing the quantity loaded in the unit of time, to reduce the passage cross section of one or more collecting devices, by maneuvering the rod systems 35, 36 and 37 and thus modifying the position of the regulating registers 32, 33 and 34? This results in a corresponding smaller quantity of fruit or nuts falling from one chamber to the next or being evacuated; the material is thus subjected for a longer time to the operation of decortication and drying.
By a different setting of the position of the registers 32, 33 and 34 one can moreover suitably determine the residence time of the material in the different chambers according to the requirements in each particular case. To obtain as uniform a distribution as possible of the material over the entire bottom of the drum, the conveyor blades 43 (see particularly fig. 4), can be moved an-
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
gularly, around axes directed radially with respect to the longitudinal axis of the drum, from the outer wall of the drum, so that the driving speed of the material can thus be pre-adjusted.
If, for example, it is observed that in chamber 13, relative to chamber 12, too strong a discharge of fibers removed by decortication occurs, the conveyor blades, located in front of chamber 13, are moved in such a way that the The angle which the surfaces of the blades make with the planes situated transversely to and the longitudinal axis of the drum is smaller than the travel path covered in each revolution of the drum is correspondingly reduced.
