Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 EMI2.1

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 acylamino n'a pour ainsi dire aucune influence sur la nuance;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

 EMI7.2
 de 26,6 parties de 4-éthoxy-3-(éthyl- Cl-oxéthyl)-amino- l-acétanilide. Après que la formation du colorant 'apris

 <Desc/Clms Page number 8>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 9>

 priétés semblables.

   Exemple 7.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 10>

  A process for the production of violet to blue-green dyes for acetate silk.

   It has been found that new valuable monoazo dyes, violet to blue-green, insoluble in water, are obtained by copulating diazo derivatives of nitroamino-sulfones of the general formula
 EMI1.1
 where X signifies hydrogen, the nitro group or a halogen and
R signifies an alkyl such as methyl, ethyl, butyl etc., with monoacyl-m-phenylkèneliamines of the following general formula:

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 EMI2.1

In this formula:

   Ac signifies an acyl radical, substituted or not, such as
HCO-, CH3.CO-, C2H5.CO-, C3H7.CO- etc.,
 EMI2.2
 11H23 '2g4'H.CO-, 2 "2' Y2 2 '--00.0.alkyl, -CONH2 and so on, R1 means a radical such as methyl, ethyl, propyl,
 EMI2.3
 bu.tyle, tV -oxyethyl,. r-dioxypropyl, -oxy-7'-chloropropyl, -oxy- r-alkoxypropyl, epoxypropyl, polyoxyalkyl radicals from the sugar series, phenyl, etc. and R2 signifies the same radical as R1, or hydrogen, R1 and R2 possibly, in the case of the tertiary substituted N atom, µ be equal or different.

   The other substituents in the azo component can be any, provided, however, that they do not destroy coupling power and do not render the dyes soluble in water.

   The new dyes generally have very good solubility in alcohols, ketones, hydrocarbons such as petroleum, paraffin, benzene, oils, then in waxes and in the most varied modern solvents, as well as in their mixtures. ± From this point of view, it has been observed that it is possible to adapt the solubility properties widely to the most diverse applications by an appropriate choice of the acid radical of the acylamino group.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

   Some of the new dyes are distinguished by very good solubility in cellulose ethers and esters. They can either be dissolved in the corresponding lacquers, or also be used, according to the method of suspension, for the dyeing of textiles, films or molded masses after having been brought by appropriate additions to the state of fine. dispersion.

   With the new dyes it is possible to obtain violet to blue-green shades, edible in pure white, which until now could only be obtained with coupling components of the amino-naphthalene and aminonaphthol series. . However, since the dyes prepared with these compounds are, owing to their extremely unsatisfactory lightfastness, practically unusable, especially for the dyeing of acetylcellulose, the new coupling components thereby fill a significant gap, especially in the synthesis. light solid purple to blue dyes for acetylcellulose.

   Until now, it was only possible to obtain gnawable blue shades on acetate silk with good fastness with dyes derived from 1-diazo-6-halogen-2: 4-dinitrobenzenes and few selected coupling components. of the benzene series, such as alkyl- # -oxyalkylcresidin. In this way, in the best case, reddish blue shades are obtained which have the great disadvantage of turning strongly red in artificial light. It is therefore of particular importance to have edible blue acetate silk dyes, the pure blue dyes of which do not fade even in artificial light.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 but remain unaltered in nuance and purity.

   The dyes obtained by the new process amply meet these conditions, in most cases even perfectly.

  Among these there are new dyes which are distinguished by their blue shades very strongly shifted towards green, as could not be obtained with the azo components of the benzene series known hitherto.

   The use of monoacyl-m-phenylenediamine, its homologues or copulable substitution products as azo components for the preparation of yellow to orange dyes for dyeing cellulose ethers and esters) is already known from French patent No. 608,934 of Jan. 4, 1926. But all of these dyes still have a free amino group which can be diazotized and used for the preparation of fiber developable dyes. In this they differ from the dyes obtained by the present process, which have a secondary or tertiary amino group in the para position with respect to the azo group.

   The acylamino group found in the coupling component of the new dyes is shown to be the substituent which produces the strongest shade shift known so far towards blue or green. As a result, the shades of all new dyes with the acylamino group in the ortho position to the azo group are shifted more strongly towards the blue end of the spectrum, than those of dyes of quite similar constitution, but with another substituent. , such as for example the alkyl or alkoxy group. The composition of the acid radical itself being in the group

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 acylamino has virtually no influence on the shade;

   this is of great importance for the preparation of new dyes which must be adapted to the most varied solvents and emulsifiers, since the solubility properties depending on the acyl group can be modified by variation of this group without the nuance is influenced.

   The following examples illustrate the new process: Example 1.

   21.6 parts of 5-nitro-2-aminophenylmethylsulfone are diazotized in the usual way with the necessary amount of nitrosylsulfuric acid. After the end of the diazotization, the mixture is poured into plenty of ice-water and the dilute solution of the diazo is filtered if necessary. The clear solution thus obtained is allowed to flow into an aqueous solution of 28.2 parts of 4-ethoxy-3.-di- # -oxyethylamino-1-acetanilide. : By neutralizing the strongly acidic reaction mass in Congo with sodium acetate the formation of the dye can be accelerated. When the reaction is complete, the insoluble dye formed is separated by filtration and washed until neutral reaction.

   The dye obtained is in the dry state in the form of a dark powder which dissolves with a blue coloration in organic solvents such as alcohol, acetone and acetic ether. The acetate silk is dyed using the hanging method in pure blue shades, edible in white.

   The mentioned azo component is obtained by heating 4-ethoxy-3-amino-1-acetANILIDE with an oxyethylating agent, such as glycol chlorohydrin,

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 by adding an acid-binding agent, such as carbonate of lime, magnesium carbonate or soda ash. The new base crystallizes in water in the form of small, colorless needles, the melting point of which is 131 C.

   Example 2.

   21.6 parts of 5-nitro-2-aminophenylmethylsulfone are diazotized in the usual way with a nitrosylsulfuric acid corresponding to 6.9 parts of sodium nitrite, the mixture is poured onto ice and reacted with a solution. aqueous 28.2 parts of
 EMI6.1
 4.-Methoxy-3- (ethyl-p. '-Dioxypropyl) -amino-1-acetanilide.

  The formation of the dye is terminated by the addition of sodium acetate. The dye isolated and dried in the usual way is in the form of a dark powder which dissolves with a blue coloration in acetone or acetic ether. According to the suspension method, blue shades are obtained on acetate silk.

   A similar dye is obtained by the use of the corresponding ethyl sulfone.

 of 26.8 parts of 4-m.ethoxy-3-di-Gl -oxethylamino-1-acetanilide. By adding sodium acetate the coupling is terminated and the dye which has separated out is isolated and dried in the usual manner. It is presented as a dark powder which dissolves with a blue color in acetone or acetic ether. According to the suspension method we obtain on silk with acetate

 blue shades. By using the corresponding ethyl sulfone a similar dye is obtained.

    Example e 4.

   A solution of a diazo compound prepared in the usual manner from 21.6 parts of 5-nitro-2-aminophenylmethylsulfone is coupled with an aqueous solution of 23.8 parts of 3-di-oxethylamino-1-acetanilide. After the end of the reaction, the dye is filtered off, washed until neutral reaction and dried. It is presented as a dark powder which is soluble in acetone and acetic ether with a violet-red coloration and dyes the silk with acetate by the suspension method in violet shades, gnawing. in pure white.

   By using the corresponding ethyl sulfone a similar dye is obtained.

  3-Di-e2fl-oxethylamino-1-acetanilide is obtained by treating 3-amino-1-acetanilide with glycol hydrochloride in the presence of an acid-binding agent.

  The base is very easily soluble in water and in alcohol and it crystallizes in colorless prisms with a melting point of 1190 C.

   Example 5.

   26.1 parts of 2-amino-3.5-dinitro-1-phenylmethyl-sulfone are diazotized in concentrated sulfuric acid with a corresponding nitrosylsulfuric acid, 6.9 parts of sodium nitrite. The new dye comes in the form of a dark powder which dissolves in acetone and acetic ether with a blue-green coloration and dyes the silk with acetate according to the suspension method in blue-green shades. , solid, chewable in pure white, which are distinguished by a particularly beautiful shade in artificial light.

   A similar dye is obtained by the use of the corresponding ethyl sulfone.

   4-Echoxy-3- (ethyl - # - oxethyl) -amino-1-1 acetanilide is obtained by single oxethylation of 4-ethoxy-3-amino-1-acetanilide according to the known manner.

   This intermediate product is subsequently ethylated, without having been isolated, directly with 4-ethoxy-3- (ethyl- # -oxethyl) -amino-1-acetanilide diethyl sulfate, which is directly employed in the form of an aqueous solution.

   Example 6.

   26.1 parts of 2-amino-3: 5-dinitro-1-phenylmethylsulfone are diazotized in the usual manner and copulated with an aqueous solution, cooled to OC, of 23.8 parts of 3-di-3 -oxethylamino-1-acetanilide. The dye which has formed is isolated as usual. It occurs in the dry state as a dark powder which dissolves in acetone and in acetic ether with a violet-blue coloration and dyes the silk with acetate according to the suspension method in solid violet-blue shades, gnawable in pure white.

   If 2-amino-3.5-dinitro-1-phenylmethylsulfone is replaced in the above example by the corresponding ethylsulfone, a dye with properties is obtained.

 similar prayers.

   Example 7.

   26. 1 parts of 2-amino-3.5-dinitro-1-phenylmethylsulfone are diazotized with a nitrosylsulphuric acid corresponding to 6.9 parts of sodium nitrite and copulated with an aqueous alcoholic solution, cooled to 0, of
 EMI9.1
 28.2 parts of 4-ethoxy-5-di- & -oxethylamino-1-acetanilide.

  Coupling is terminated by adding sodium acetate, which causes separation of the dye. In the dry state, the dye is in the form of a dark powder which dissolves in acetone and in acetic ether with a blue-green coloration and dyes the silk acetate according to the suspension method. in such shades, which are distinguished by a particularly beautiful color in artificial light.

   If 2-amino-3.5-dinitro-1-phenylmethylsulfone is replaced in this example by the corresponding ethyl derivative, a dye with similar properties is obtained.

   Similar dyes are obtained when, instead of methyl- or ethylsulfone of the previous examples, sulfones with higher alkyl groups, such as butyl, etc., are employed.

   In the alkylated amino group instead of the groups
 EMI9.2
 2- Gl -oxé thyle or ethyl-. r -dioxypropyl or 6thyl- CeJ -oxethyl, the substitution can also be carried out by means of the radicals indicated in the general description, or alternatively there can simply be a single substitution for hydrogen, which makes it possible to use all the possible combinations of these substituents. By these means, the shade and partly also the solubility can be influenced; for acetate silk dyes, it

 <Desc / Clms Page number 10>

 It is recommended to use at least one oxyalkyl group, since this group has a very favorable influence on the absorbency and on the solubility in the derivatives of cellulose ethers or esters.

   Instead of the acetyl radical appearing in the acetyl-m-phenylenediamine derivatives employed in the above examples, it is of course also possible to use other acyl radicals such as those indicated in the description. The formyl and lactyl derivatives are generally suitable for dyeing cellulose ethers, whether in the form of textiles, threads, masses or lacquers; higher acyl radicals, such as lauryl etc., are suitable for dyes used to color fats, oils, waxes, terbentin, benzine etc., while dyes which are derivatives of urea or urethane, have good solubility in lower alcohols or similar organic solvents or mixtures thereof.
