Description

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 sation du combustible. -

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

Lorsque la manette N est amenée vers la base de la tuyère et   qu'elle   est poussée à fond en N1, le c8ne 6 entre avec force dans la conduite d'air 5 et ses parois coulissent l'une sur l'au- tre de sorte que la section 8 de ce c6ne se resserre au minimum   ne   laissant plus qu'une ouverture d'un faible diamètre;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

  Burners for liquid fuels with a rotating conical nozzle with admission of primary air into said nozzle.
Rotating nozzle-cup burners for spraying combustible liquid into the hearth by means of an air turbine date back a long time. - The first who applied this principle appears to be Mr. Dudley Wright residing in England: rre and his invention was the subject of English Patent No. 103147 (applied for January 12, 1916).

   The same principle is also found in British Patent No. 203840 requested by Mr. James Newton Wetherilt on July 15, 1922.

   But in all rotary nozzle burners the dissociation of the combustible liquid into fine droplets is produced exclusively by the centrifugal force which is a function of the speed of rotation of the nozzle-cup and which the primary air supplied by the fan does not pass through the spray cone of the rotating nozzle-cup.

   In this way the mixture of fuel and oxidizer (air) occurs only in the firebox and air does not intervene in the action of spraying.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 fuel disposal. -
However, in order to obtain a suitable dissociation of the combustible liquid into fine droplets by the single centrifugal force, the speed of rotation of the nozzle-cup must be considerable, but as soon as this speed of rotation is reduced, the spraying fuel liquid is far from good or sufficient.

   On the other hand, the regulators for the intake of air, supplied by a fan, in the nozzle inside which the rotating nozzle-cup is located are designed in such a way that the air enters, when reduces its admission into the nozzle, following only part of the inner wall thereof, which has the effect that it no longer acts with equal force on all points of the surface of the propeller.
The present invention relates to a burner with a rotating nozzle-cup in which part of the primary air supplied by a fan at suitable pressure (very low pressure) passes through the interior of the rotating nozzle after having passed through the propeller, where, by its turbulence, it mixes intimately with the fuel from inside the spray cone.

  This mixture also ensures perfect atomization of the combustible liquid whatever. or the speed of rotation of the nozzle - In addition, this Burner comprises: 1) At the entry of the air (from the fan) into the nozzle, an extendable conical regulator, making it possible to reduce at will the admission of air into the nozzle and to proportion the flow to the flow of fuel-liquid, but, by forcing it to take the longitudinal axis of the nozzle and act with equal pressure on the entire surface of the propeller. - 2) A conical regulator (not extendable) for sending air into the hearth. - This regulator is intended, when the intensity of the flames in the hearth is reduced, by moderating the flow of fuel and air,

   to force the primary air to pass almost entirely through the spray cone of the rotating nozzle

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 almost completely closing the opening around this cone, towards the fireplace.

  3) A device for automatic and permanent lubrication of the ball bearings on which the nozzle-cup rotates.

   The accompanying drawings, given by way of example of an embodiment of one of the forms of the object of the invention, show the main characteristics of this burner.

  Fig. 1. shows side view, in longitudinal and axial section, the arrangement of the essential parts and organs constituting the object of the present invention.

   In this figure we can distinguish: in 1 La Tuyère; in 3 a fixed tube forming an inlet pipe for the liquid fuel along the axis of the nozzle. On this tube rotates the rotating nozzle-cup 2 which is mounted on ball bearings R and Ri.
The rotary nozzle 2 is essentially formed of a cylindrical sleeve 2 in which the ball bearings R. Rl are housed and terminating in two flared and opposite cones A. & B.

  On this sleeve is mounted the propeller H which rotates the rotary nozzle, by the action of the air from the fan. The cone A constitutes the cup for spraying the fuel which arrives there through the orifices 4 suitably made below a tightening nut forming a plug at the end of the tube 3 so that the fuel arrives at the end. birth of the cone A.

  The inverted cone B is integral with A and its object is to capture part of the primary air and force it to enter cone A through orifices 0 made in sufficient number and of a diameter judiciously calculated on the calorie strength of the burner.

   The fixed tube 3 on its axial part is provided at 9 with a very small orifice to allow liquid fuel, generally fatty substances, to escape in small droplets to lubricate the bearing R. The Bearing Rl is lubricated at 10 by the combustible liquid exiting at 4 at the start of the conical cup.

   The air enters the nozzle through tube 5 and immediately

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 it meets the expandable conical regulator 6.-
This regulator consists of a truncated cone (funnel) with a thin flexible metal wall with spring tendency.

  Its faces can slide one on the other by simple circular clamping in a plane parallel to the base. So the two sections of the cone are variable at will. A guide fork fixed at 7 at the base of this cone and parallel to it around which is a spiral spring complete the regulator itself. - The drawing shows a way of mounting this regulator: a transverse bar D in the other nozzle D1 in the air tube 5, connected by a rod P along the axis of the nozzle and on which the fork 7 slides.

   A handle N suitably connected by a rod, passing through the nozzle, to the base of the extendable cone completes the said regulator.
When the lever N is brought towards the base of the nozzle and that it is pushed fully into N1, the cone 6 forcefully enters the air duct 5 and its walls slide one over the other. so that the section 8 of this cone tightens to the minimum leaving only an opening of a small diameter;

   therefore the admission of air into the nozzle is reduced to the strict minimum for combustion at idle speed. - Intermediate positions of the N stalk allow a variation of the setting as desired. -
The air not captured by the cone B of the rotating nozzle enters the hearth through the circular opening 11 of the nozzle which is expressly constricted so that the flow of this air towards the hearth is tangential to the circular edges of the spray nozzle. A rotating nozzle.

   The admission of this air into the hearth is regulated by the cone C sliding by its cylindrical base on the interior walls of the nozzle by means of the handle M which, when it arrives at Ml, causes the cone C to rise in Cl, thus closing properly the air outlet 11.-
The M and N levers can be controlled by an appropriate device allowing simultaneous operation and control.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 judged by the two regulators by a single maneuver.

   FIG. 2 shows in longitudinal section a variant of the rotary cup nozzle with air admission into the spray cone. In this fig. note that the inverted cone B (seen in fig. 1.) is replaced by a simple flange E around the cone A and above the air intake ports 0.

   There are still other forms of rotary cups with primary air intake therein, such as, for example, a nozzle-cup into which air could enter through the ball bearing AR at the start of the sleeve.

   FIG. 3 shows, front view and in a plane perpendicular to the axis of the nozzle, the mouth of the appliance presented to the fireplace. In this figure, the conical air regulator C being closed, we see how much the circular opening between A and C is reduced.

   Figure 4 - same details, but the cone C having descended towards the base of the nozzle, we notice that the circular air inlet space around the cone A is entirely open.
Figure 5 shows the two sections of the expandable cone seen at 6 in fig. 1 and explains why these two sections are variable at will and simultaneously variable.

   This burner achieves the pinnacle of atomization of liquid fuels and constitutes unstable industrial progress. The atomization obtained is so perfect and the mixing of the air with the fuel is so intimately carried out that it can be said that the combustible liquid at its exit from cone A is almost gasified.

   As a result, the thermal efficiency of this burner is much higher than those obtained with the burners existing to date.

   The inventors already provide for the application of this invention to internal combustion engines with the aim of replacing gasoline fuel with gas oil or any other fuel.
All mechanical means of automatic adjustment of simul-

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 tane of the fuel supply and those of air intake in the nozzle and in the hearth, by levers, cams, gears etc. .. controlled by pyrostats or thermostats are provided.

   However, the shapes, dimensions and materials used for the construction of this burner may vary without thereby creating an innovation or reducing in any way the value of the present invention.
