<EMI ID=1.1>
<EMI ID=2.1>

Drilling machine.
The invention relates to a drilling machine
having a mechanism for stopping the advance of the shaft
drill holder when the desired drilling depth is reached.
These known mechanisms include two trigger devices that can be used as desired and one of which simply interrupts the advancement so that the tool remains at the same.
level, while the other further releases a
automatic tool recall, which automatically returns the tool to its starting position. In execution forms
known, the devices for disengaging the forward control are engaged using two stops which move
cent with the tool and which are adjustable in the direction of its movement. These stops each act on one of the release devices. By means of these release devices it is possible to drill holes of the desired depth by adjusting the position of the stops. When the device is used by means of which the advance is simply interrupted without the tool being brought back, the bottom of the hole can be machined so as to make it even. This is particularly advantageous for completing holes using a finishing drill or a milling cutter.
When using the two disengaging devices, it is necessary, depending on the way of working envisaged, to bring one of the stops to the operative position, while the other must be rendered inoperative. This requires relatively a lot of care in setting the machine, since it must always be ensured that only one of the two stops is in the operative position. If the worker forgets to make the second stopper inoperative, the machine runs out of position. It either drills holes of the wrong depth or fails to complete the bottom of the hole as desired, or vice versa. According to the invention, this drawback is obviated by providing for the actuation of the two disengaging devices only a single adjustable stop which acts on one or the other disengaging device depending on its position.
The machine can also be oriented towards one or the other way of working by a single movement, namely by an offset of the stop. By this simple orientation maneuver, it is ensured that only the desired release device is actuated, while the other remains inactive.
In addition, 'this provision presents a notable constructive simplification. While in the known machines there must be one bar for each stop, for the machine according to the invention a single bar is sufficient on which the stop is arranged in an adjustable manner along the length of the bar.
The members of the two disengaging devices struck by the stopper are tuned to one another so that the drilling depth set is the same for the two stopper positions. As a result, a single scale is sufficient to adjust the stop.
The disengaging members are advantageously constituted by two juxtaposed levers mounted coaxially.
The orientable part of the stop is placed on a longitudinal sliding block which carries a firm clamping device and an index moving opposite a fixed scale for reading the drilling depth established by the adjustment.
In order to prevent an overload of the transmission parts of the drills with mechanical advance control, an overload coupling was interposed in a suitable place which automatically interrupts the transmission of power when the allowable torque is exceeded. When instead of unsafe friction couplings a claw coupling is employed which disengages regularly during overload, there must be special devices to re-engage the coupling after the cause of the overload is eliminated. This complicates the construction of the transmission. In addition, the maneuver becomes more difficult because the addition of an additional maneuvering member makes the machine scrambled and results in a multiplication of sources of errors.
An object of the invention is to substantially simplify the construction and to make the execution of the maneuvers considerably clearer. For this purpose, in a drill
<EMI ID = 1.1>
plement interposed in the transmission of the mechanical control and a device for the automatic disengagement of this coupling when the desired drilling depth is reached, according to the invention a device is used for disengaging this coupling, which enters in action automatically when the admissible torque is exceeded. In this way, a safety against overloads is obtained without increasing the number of parts of the transmission, and above all one and the same device is used to re-engage the control, so that the worker is not obliged to look for first the appropriate lever. If the clutch is produced before the cause of the overload has been removed, the coupling is immediately disengaged again.
The device for the automatic disengagement of the coupling is constituted, according to the invention, by coupling claws with oblique flanks, fitted on the coupling elements, and by a wedge-shaped clamp, loaded by a spring, which when the coupling is engaged, bears by means of a wedge surface against a stop surface connected to the coupling and maintains the latter in the engaged position against the axial pressure caused by the oblique flanks, and which when disengaging the coupling comes to bear via its other wedge surface against another abutment surface and maintains the coupling using the latter in the disengaged position.
Advantageously, the coupling is interposed while looking in the direction of the transmission of power upstream of the main reduction of the forward control. Therefore, the force of the spring which opposes the disengagement of the coupling may be small, since the torque transmitted by the coupling is relatively small.
In the drills which comprise in the transmission of the advance two couplings mounted in series and a return device backwards, according to the invention, an irreversible worm gear is interposed between the two couplings. The device for disengaging the coupling acts on the coupling which - looking in the direction of power transmission - is mounted upstream of the worm gear, while the return device is mounted on the 'shaft driving the feed shaft. With this arrangement, the return device only comes into action when the coupling arranged between the worm gear and the drill shaft is disengaged, while the return device does not come into action. when disengaging the coupling located upstream of the worm gear - looking in the direction of the transmission -.
Therefore, when the latter coupling is disengaged due to an overload, the drill bit remains in its position, so that drilling can be resumed immediately.
This subsequent machining of the drilled hole can be performed by hand by slowly advancing the drill shaft. To this end, according to the invention, there is provided a hand control for the forward movement, comprising a coupling which is engaged automatically when the coupling connecting the forward transmission to the drive control is disengaged.
the machine.
Simple assembly is achieved when the movable coupling elements of both couplings are fitted
on a common tree that can be moved along its length.
The appended drawing represents an exemplary embodiment of the invention.
In the drawing:

The guide bush 2 of the drill-holder shaft 3 is mounted in the doll 1 so as to be able to move vertically. The advance is produced, as usual, by a toothed wheel 31 which is fixed to a shaft 27. To the shaft 27 are connected, by means of a coupling not shown, arms 62 to the shaft. With the help of which the guide bush 2 can be raised and lowered by hand. At the opposite end of the shaft 27 is mounted a device for returning the drill-holder shaft back. This device is constituted by a housing 33 in which is housed a spiral spring 34 connected to the shaft 27 by a pin 35 and to the housing 33 by a pin 36 and which is tensioned during advancement.
On the shaft 27 is mounted madly a worm wheel
29 which is connected to the shaft by a coupling sleeve
<EMI ID = 2.1>
the worm wheel 29 engages a worm 30 formed on a hollow shaft 46. On the latter is movable a coupling sleeve 45 whose oblique claws cooperate with a coupling sleeve 48. The latter receives its rotation from the transmission of the drill by means of a reduction gear. Inside the hollow shaft 46 is slidably mounted a shaft 53 which is keyed in the hollow shaft and which is further connected to the coupling sleeve 45 by a pin 55. By means of sleeves of coupling 56, 57, 58, 59 this hollow shaft can be coupled to a handwheel 61 fixed to a journal 60. As long as the coupling sleeve 45 is engaged with the sleeve 48, the coupling 56, 57, 58 , 59 is disengaged, but when disengaging the coupling 45, 48, the coupling 56, 57, 58, 59 is engaged.
The advancement of the tool can then be produced by hand.
For the automatic disengagement of the feed, two coupling devices are provided, first a device which acts on the coupling sleeve 26 and secondly, a device which acts on the coupling sleeve 45.
The device for automatically disengaging the coupling sleeve 26 consists of two arms 24 wedged on a hollow shaft 23 and of which two rollers 25 'are engaged in a groove of the sleeve 26. On the hollow shaft is wedged an arm 19 arranged. on the front face of the doll 1. One of the arms 24 carries a wedge 38 against which a plunger carries
40 having wedge surfaces and subjected to the pressure of a spring 39. This device normally keeps the coupling 26, 28 engaged. However, when the coupling is positively disengaged by rotating the arms 24, the wedge
38 passes with click, against the spring pressure
39, on the opposite side of the plunger 40.
As a result, the plunger 40 completes the disengaging movement so that the coupling claws 28 brought and held securely out of engagement, so that the spring 34 can return the drill shaft to the rear without endangering the claws 28 .
The coupling sleeve 45 is disengaged by a lever 42 whose rollers 46 are engaged in a groove 44 of the coupling sleeve. This lever is wedged on a shaft 41 which is journaled inside the hollow shaft 23 and which carries at its end emerging from the tailstock, immediately next to the lever 19, a lever: 20. The lever 42 comprises an arm 49, the end of which is provided with a wedge-shaped nose 50. Against this carries a plunger 52, provided with a wedge-shaped end, which is subjected to the pressure of. a spring 51. This device keeps the coupling 45 engaged. However, when it is positively disengaged, the nose 50 clicks on the opposite side of the plunger 52.
As a result, the claws 47 are surely brought out of engagement.
The coupling 45, 47, 48, the nose 50 and the plunger 52 further provide a safety against overloading of the machine, which can occur, for example, when the tool encounters a hard place on the workpiece, which does not support not the established advancement. In this case, due to the oblique shape of the claws 47, the coupling 45, 48 disengages, the nose 50 clicks to the opposite side of the plunger 52, and the coupling claws are brought completely out of engagement.
The levers 19 and 20 serving to automatically disengage the feed can be moved by a single adjustable device. This is carried out as follows :,
On a projecting extension 4 of the guide sleeve 2 projecting from the headstock 1 is fixed a
bar 5 on which can move longitudinally and can be clamped permanently a block 6. This block can be clamped on the bar 5 at different levels. For this purpose the block has a slot 7 and a tightening screw 8 which can be stretched and released using a lever 9. On an arm 10 of the block is arranged an index 11 which moves opposite a ladder 12. Attached to the block is an arm 13 which can turn on the bar 5 and which carries a bolt 14 acting as a stop. This arm can be established in two different positions determined by longitudinal grooves 15
and 16 of bar 5 in cooperation with a ball plunger
17 loaded by a spring. Depending on whether the arm 13 is established facing the groove 15 or the groove 16, the stop 14 is located above the lever 19 or the lever 20, these levers being provided with stop surfaces 21 and 22 corresponding to the stop 14. Consequently, when the block 6, carrying the arm
13 and the stop 14, is adjusted using the scale 12 for a determined drilling depth and that it meets one or the other of the stop surfaces 21 and 22, the advance of the shaft The drill holder is disengaged either by the coupling 26, 28, or by the coupling 45, 48.
The advancement device is used as follows:
First we adjust block 6 using the scale
12, as indicated, for the desired drilling depth and the arm 13 is brought either above the lever 19 or above the lever 20. It will be assumed, to begin with, that it is above the lever. lever 19. The drill-holder shaft is lowered using the arms 62 until the drill comes to bear on the workpiece. The feed is engaged and the drilling begins. As soon as the set depth of the drilled hole is reached, the lever 19 turns up and down under the action of the stop 14. As a result, the arm 24 disengages the coupling sleeve 26 and the connection with the worm wheel.
29 of the feed gear is broken. The advance is now stopped and shaft 27 is free. The latter then turns in the opposite direction under the action of the spring 34, so that the drill is released from the drilled hole.
The coupling claws 28 cannot be damaged, since the coupling sleeve 26 is completely withdrawn from the worm wheel by the action of the plunger 40, as described above.
If the stopper 14 has been placed above the lever
20, lever 20, shaft 41, and lever 42 disengage coupling sleeve 45 when the desired drilling depth is reached. This has the effect of interrupting the connection with the advancement gear. Although the shaft 41 is released, it does not rotate in the opposite direction under the action of the return spring 34, since the worm gear 29, 30 is irreversible. The drill shaft continues to rotate and completes the bottom of the drilled hole.
Because the coupling sleeve 45 is disengaged, the coupling 56, 58 is engaged, so that the shaft 41 is coupled through the shaft 53 to the handwheel 61. Now it can be produced. Manual feed using handwheel 61. This hand feed can also be used when the coupling 45, 48 has disengaged on its own due to too much resistance to drilling. In this case, it is possible to operate with the aid of the handwheel 61 a slow advance until the hard spot is crossed.
Since the handwheel 61 acts on the feed shaft 27 through the worm gear 29, 30, the transmission ratio is large and the feed is low. The flywheel 61 never begins to turn on its own because it is only engaged when the coupling 45, 48. Is disengaged, that is to say when the shaft
46 of the worm is at rest. It is therefore impossible for the worker to be endangered by rotating parts. When the hard spot is cleared, the coupling 45, 48 is re-engaged by hand using lever 20.
For the rapid advance by hand, the ordinary spider 62 (fig. 5) is used which is mounted at the end of the shaft 27 and which can be detached from the shaft 27 by means of a coupling. not shown in the drawings, as long as one operates with automatic advancement.
