Auxiliary device for the execution on a parallel lathe of bores successively requiring the use of several tools When an axial boring must be carried out in a part mounted on a parallel lathe requiring the successive use of several tools, for example successively of a center bit, two drills of different diameter and a front cutter, you must mount one after the other on the pinne of the tailstock, instead of the tailstock, the different necessary tools. This constitutes an expensive waste of time when it comes to machining a large number of parts.
The present invention relates to an auxiliary device for a parallel lathe which does not have this drawback thanks to the fact that it comprises a turret-revolver.
The drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the device which is the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a vertical sectional view, along the trace plane C-C in FIG. 2, of the tailstock fitted with the auxiliary device. Part 4 was however cut according to the trace plane D. The left part is at a double scale compared to that on the right. Fig. 2 is an end elevational view of the same tailstock on the same scale as that of the right part of FIG. 1.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view according to the trace plane A-A in FIG. 1, while FIG. 4 is a sectional view according to the trace plane B-B also in FIG. 1.
The device shown is mounted on the tailstock 2 which can slide on the mistletoe 1 of the bench of the parallel lathe. While the device is in use, the tailstock is immobilized. This auxiliary device comprises two parts: a front part comprising the turret-revolver and arranged between the tailstock and the chuck of the lathe, and a rear part disposed on the other side of the tailstock and comprising the mechanism for advancement and withdrawal of the tool during machining.
The anterior part comprises a base 21/23 comprising a cylindrical block 21 cut at an angle and having a Morse cone 20 coaxial with the cylinder. This Morse taper is used to mount the front part of the auxiliary device on the tailstock; it is forced for this purpose, during assembly, in the pin 17 usually carrying the tailstock. At the time of assembly, it is necessary to check that the plane of face 22 of block 21 is perpendicular to the longitudinal median plane (normally vertical) of the lathe. To immobilize the block 21, there is provided (see FIG. 3) a key 31 housed in a hole in the block 21, which key has a size 31 'matching the surface of the pin.
The block 21 carries a plate 23 housed in a seat formed in the face 22 and fixed to the block by screws 24, only one of which is visible in the drawing. This plate or base 23 has the shape of a disc; a pivot 33 has, at one of its ends, a head 34 fixed to the center of the base by means of screws 35. This pivot is perpendicular to this base. On this pivot is rotatably mounted a turret 45 constituted by a frustoconical block whose large base is turned towards the base 23 side. A first ball bearing is arranged between the turret and the base; a second ball bearing is placed between the turret and a ron delle 37 threaded onto the pivot 33.
A nut screwed onto the end of the pivot 33 makes it possible to adjust the tightening of the ball bearings. The pi vot 33 has an axial hole with radial branches for lubricating the ball bearings. Index 39 indicates an oil lubricator.
The turret has a ring of six blind holes 26 directed towards the axis of the turret and inclined in such a way with respect to this axis that the axis of each hole can be brought, by rotating the turret around the pivot 33, in a working position in which it is horizontal and coincides with the axis of the pin. Each of these holes 26 is intended to receive a clamp carrying a tool: centering tip, drill bit, reamer, tap, etc. Each tool holder clamp comprises a sleeve, one end 27 of which is cylindrical and fits into the hole 26 while the other 28 contains a conical bush 30 having an axial hazard receiving the shank of the tool 40 and a longitudinal slot 30 '.
A clamping ring 29, screwed onto a thread of part 28, allows the conical bush 30 to be driven into its housing to lock the tool 40.
The cylindrical part of the tool holder 27/28 is blocked in the blind hole 26, by means of a key 32 similar to the key 31 '. It is obvious that each blind hole 26 is equipped with a key 32. For reasons of simplicity, the keys 32 have not been shown in FIG. 4. Similarly, we have not shown in fig. 2 parts of the turret that would be visible in this view. To lock the turret 45 in each of its six working positions, a spring latch 25 can be engaged in any one of the six holes 36 drilled at 600 any of the above. be in the large base of the turret 45.
To operate this latch 25, the block 21 has a hole opening into the housing of the latch and containing a pin 41 provided, on the one hand, with an operating lever 42 and, on the other hand, with a crank pin 44 entering a notch in the latch 25. By turning the lever 42 in one direction, the latch can thus be extracted from the hole 36 and free the turret to bring the various tools into working position. By releasing the handle 42, the spring brings the latch back into the hole 36. To facilitate the entry of the latch 25 into the hole 36, the point of the latch is bevelled.
The mechanism for advancing and retracting the tool comprises a bush 4 fixed with two screws 18 at the tailstock and serving as a guide to a sliding rod 7 connected by the threaded stud 19 at the end posterior of the pin 17. This assembly is done after removing the usual mechanism (handwheel and threaded rod) used to move the pin. The rod 7 has a rack toothing 9 and a longitudinal guide groove 8 which cooperates with a screw 6 to prevent any rotation of the rack rod 7. The toothing 9 coo father with a pinion 5 cut in an axis housed in a borehole of the sleeve 4. This pin carries a head 5 'into which are screwed four operating arms 3.
As seen in fig. 2 the axis 5 is slightly inclined with respect to the horizontal plane, experience having shown that this facilitates the operation of the auxiliary device.
The free end of the rod 7 carries a positive stroke limiter device which comprises an adjustable stop for each of the six tools.
This stroke limiter device comprises a rectangular support plate 10 fitted on the rod 7 perpendicular to the axis thereof. On this plate 10, the position of which along the rod can be fixed at will, is rotatably mounted a cylindrical stud 12 having a ring of six tapped holes 15 parallel to the axis of the rod 7 and each receiving a screw 13. , which can be screwed more or less deeply and which is provided with a locking nut 14. The stud 10, which can be maneuvered by means of the handle 11, can be kept motionless in each of its six positions by a man spring 16. The screw which is in the working position comes to rest, during the advancement of the tool, against the sleeve 4.
The instructions for use of the device described are as follows. The various tools necessary for the machining to be carried out are mounted on the turret 45. Then the working stroke of each of the tools is adjusted using one of the screws 13, after having placed the support 10 in the most suitable position on the rod 7. The tools 40 and the corresponding screws 13 will be arranged in the same cyclical order. The first tool is placed in the working position and the corresponding screw 13 in front of the sleeve 4. The lathe is started up and, by acting on the arms 3, the tool is advanced until the screw 13 butts against the socket 4.
The tool is then brought back, the turret is rotated a sixth of a turn to put the second or til into service and the cylindrical block 10 is also rotated by a sixth of a turn to bring the machine into the working position. second stop screw and the tool is again advanced to the end of travel. We go back and repeat the same operations for each of the other tools.
The device described could be supplemented by an automatic mechanism causing by hydraulic control the rotation of a pitch of the turret-revolver, and thereby the change of the tool, during the retreat of the turret itself.
