Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

On pourra utiliser
 EMI3.1

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 des teintures cuivrées, remarquablement solides au lavage,
 EMI4.1

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

  "Process for the preparation of copper disazo and polyazo dyes"
The object of the present invention is the preparation of copper-capable disazo and polyazo dyes which give dyes of excellent fastness to cellular fibers.

   The copperable polyazo dyes are very popular because of their simple method of use, their very good fastness to light, their remarkable hardness sometimes at., If in the wet state and their low price.

  They have especially gained in importance since the recent success in preparing polyazo dyes whose copper-colored dyes on cellulose have sufficient fastness even with the test of repeated washing with soap, and thus their possibility of application is greater. The dyes that

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 A valuable addition to the group of copperable polyazo dyes which are remarkably solid in the wet state and in light can be prepared according to the present process.

   The new process makes possible the preparation of red-burgundy to purple disazo and polyazo dyes copperable; their cellulose dyes, subsequently treated with copper, have remarkably pure shades, the wet fastness of which withstands the repeated test of washing with soap very well.

   Precious disazo and polyazot dyes that can be coppered according to the new process will be obtained by combining, in an alkaline medium, 1 molecule of a tetrazotated diamine of general formula 1 in which

 -Cf12-, -CO-, -NH-, -NH-CO-, -D1H-0-, and in which the benzene rings may still contain nonionoid substituents, common in azo dyes, with 2 molecules of a naphthol sulfonic acid coupling ortho to the hydroxyl group, which acid may still have other substituents common in coupling components as well as azo groups.

   Depending on the coupling component chosen, burgundy red to purple dyes will be obtained which produce coppery tints on cellulose of remarkably pure tones and extraordinary fastness to repeated washing with soap.

 acids such as sodium acetate, sodium carbonate, magnesium oxide, tertiary bases such as pyridine or dimethylaniline, etc. The choice of solvent or diluent will depend on the solubility of the diamine used.

  At the time of condensation, the acyl radical protecting the hydroxyl group is split and the intermediate product of formula I is obtained directly, by reduction of the nitrogen groups according to the usual methods; if necessary, the acyl radical can also be removed before or after reduction in the intermediate product or also in the completely formed dye, by slight saponification. instead of the chlorides of 3-nitro-4-acyloxy-benzoic acid mentioned in the patent cited above, the chloride of 3-nitro-4-hydroxy-benzoyl obtained from 3-nitro-4- acid hydroxy-benzoic and thionyl chloride.

   By diphenyl series p-diamines suitable in the present process are understood: compounds 4.4 '-diamino of diphenyl, diphenylmethane, diphenyl-sulfide, diphenyl-sulfoxide, diphenyl-sulfone, diphenyl- ketone, diphenyl-amine, diphenyl-urea, then the 4-benzoylamino- derivatives of 1,4-diamino-benzene. The diamines mentioned may of course have in the aromatic rings other substituents common in azo dyes, for example halogen, alkyl or alkoxylic groups, but must not contain ionoid groups such as, for example, groups. - carboxylic and sulphonic compounds.

 all naphthol-aulfonic acids coupling at a position close to the hydroxyl group and which may contain, in addition to the substituents common in azo dyes still other azo groups, especially also amino-naphthol-aulfonic acids and their substituted derivatives. nitrogen.

  Naphthol-sulfonic acids a yield burgundy-red dyes, amino-naphthol-sulfonic acids and their nitrogen-substituted derivatives as well as acid-copulated azo dyes, capable of copulating, prepared from aromatic disazo compounds and amino-naphthol-sulfonic acid purple dyes. The solubility in water of the copperable polyazo dyes in accordance with the present invention depends on the number of sulfonic groups which they contain. Two groups of sulfonic acid are suitable.

   As explained previously, we will obtain the most valuable dyes from the point of view of

 as, for example, copper sulfate or copper acetate in a neutral or slightly acidic medium. If desired, alkali stable copper compounds can be used, such as obtained, for example, by reaction in an alkaline bath with sodium carbonate of copper sulfate with sodium tartrate.

   The following examples illustrate some of the ways of applying the process, without limiting it in any way.

  Unless otherwise indicated, parts are given by weight, temperatures in degrees centigrade.

  Example 4.

   2 parts of the dye obtained from Example 1 are dissolved in a dyeing bath in 3,000 parts of water and 2 parts of sodium carbonate. 100 parts of cotton wool are introduced into the bath at a temperature of 40-50, heated for 30 minutes at 90-95, 30 parts of sodium sulphate added and dyed for 45 minutes at this temperature.

  The cotton, once dyed, is rinsed cold and subsequently treated in a new bath with 2 parts of copper sulphate crystallized in 2000 parts of water and 2 parts of 30% acetic acid at 70, during 30 minutes. It is rinsed and dried according to the usual method. The cotton is dyed in pure purple tones of remarkable strength.

   The following table presents a certain number of examples intended to better illustrate the present invention.

  The preparation process corresponds to that of the previous examples. In the first column are the two starting materials for the basic semi-urea, such as nitro-hydroxy-benzotque acid chloride or diamine, in the second column the coupling component having groups hydroxyls.
