 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

  VALVE FOR GAS PIPES.

   The invention relates to valves for gas pipelines, especially intended for pipelines which carry gases laden with dust.
For pipelines of this kind, for example for long-distance transport pipelines, hitherto, as a rule, wedge valves have been used, that is to say valves having a valve, movable perpendicularly to the passage of the gas and comprising two opposite annular surfaces, which at the closure are applied against two corresponding seats forming part of the body of the valve, and forming between them a very acute angle.

   However, current valves of this type have not given good results for pipelines which carry gases laden with dust, because the lower part of their body becomes blocked by large deposits of dust, which prevents correct contact. sealing surfaces.

   The object of the invention is to remedy this drawback.

   According to the invention, the two seats of the valve body against which the annular surfaces of the valves rest are arranged so that the lower part of the intermediate space between these seats% when the valve is open, either swept by the gas stream in such a way that no quantity of dust can accumulate therein which could disturb the movement of the valve. Preferably below a seat of the valve body when the annular surface of the valve rests, a free passage is left for the gases, the lower wall of the relevant tubing of the valve body continuing without roughness - .-, up to the other face of said body.

   Other characteristics of the invention emerge from the description of an exemplary embodiment of the invention.

   Figure 1 is a sectional length of a valve according to the inven- tiono

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

Figure 2 shows the same arrangement, part in front view and part in section, along line 2-2 of figure 1.

   The drawing shows a valve that can be used, for example, for long-distance gas transport pipelines ,, The two pipes 1 and 2 of the valve are mounted in the pipe so that the gas flows in the direction of the arrow A. The two pipes have seats 3 and 4 against which can rest the annular closing surfaces 5 and 6 of two valves 7 and 8 which rest by an extension of suitable shape against a ball 9 and are held by a roller support 10.

   The support 10 forms at its upper part a sleeve 11 which at its upper end is provided with an internal thread 12, corresponding to the external thread of a rod 13, which exits the body of the valve upwards through a press. packing 14. On a square 15 of the rod 13 we can put a flywheel If we turn the rod 13 in a direction such that it is inserted into the inside of the sleeve 11, the valves 7 and 8- separate from the seats 3 and 4, the rod 13 is turned until the valves 7 and 8 are withdrawn from the region of the nozzles 1 and 2, which gives free passage to the gas.

  In this position, the upper end of the sleeve 11 is supported by a conical surface 16 on a corresponding sealing surface 17 of the body of the valve, so that the rod 13 is then located inside the sleeve 11 and is completely protected against attack by the gas or dust contained in the gas. To close the valve, the rod 13 is turned in the opposite direction. As a result, the valve support 11 moves downward with the valves 7 and 8, until the latter rest by their annular surface 5 and 6 against the corresponding seats 3 and 4 of the valve body. valve. As a result of their ball joint mounting on the ball 9, the valves 7 and 8 can compensate for small irregularities. As they are applied in opposite directions against the seats 3 and 4, their bearing on these seats can be effected under strong pressure.

   While the valve 7 rests on its entire periphery against the corresponding seat 3 of the valve body, and thus completely closes the gas passage., The lower part of the seat 4 of the valve body is continues in part as FIG. 2 clearly shows, so that at this point even when the valve is closed, there is still a free passage. The lower wall of the pipe is therefore thus executed at this location without roughness up to the seat 3 of the valve body. As a result of this free passage 18, the dust which in valves of other construction settles on the lower part 19 of the valve body is blown out as soon as the valve is opened. Therefore, no amount of dust can deposit here which could interfere with the use of the valve.

    CLAIMS.

   The subject of the invention is a valve for pipelines intended for the transport of gas containing dust with vertically movable valves to allow the passage of the gas, these valves having two annular surfaces oriented in opposite directions, which when closing of the valve, are applied against two corresponding seats of the valve body, this valve being characterized by the following points taken separately or in combination,
1. - The arrangement of the two seats of the valve body is such that the lower part of the intermediate space between these seats, when the valve is open, is swept by the gas stream so that it no amount of dust can accumulate there that could interfere with the movement of the valves.

   2. - One of the two seats of the valve body leaves open in the lower part a free passage for the gases.

   3. - The lower wall of a pipe of the valve body below the said seat of the valve body, continues without roughness up to the other seat.
