La présente invention a pour objet un procédé de réduction de produits à fonction carbonyle. Un entend, par produit à fonction carbonyle, les aldéhydes, oxyaldéhdes les cétones, etc...
Selon les procédés connus, on effectue la réduc- tion de la fonction carbonyle sous pression élevée (entre 100 et 150 at.), à une température de 100 à 150 C et en employant des catalyseurs tels que le palladium, l'oxyde de platine ou. de nickel.
Dans certains cas, et dans celui des sucres par exemple, on a constaté nue la vitesse de l'hydrogénation dé- pend du pH du milieu dans lequel s'effectue la réaction, et que cette vitesse est fortement accélérée si le miliem est alcalin (voir brevets D.S.A. 2.546.103 , 2.609.399 et 2,642,462 et brevet suisse 261.359).
Le brevet suisse 261.359 mentionne le fait que 1'hydrogénation se fait même sous pression normale en pré- sence de bases faibles telles que l'oxyde de calcium, magnésie ou 1'ammoniaque.
Cependant, ces procédés présentent, entre autres, le désavantage que, sous 1.'influence des bases, la fonction carbonyle subit dans certains cas une dismatatin selon la réaction connue de Oannizzaro. rendement n'est pas à conseiller. il faut d'ailleurs en ou- tre effectuer une opération supplémentaire pour séparer les alcools des acides.
Le but de la précente invention est de supprimer ces inconvénients en produisant, avec un très haut rendement. la forme réduite de la fonction carbonyle, par des procédés* à basse température et à haute pression. Cependant, dans les conditions des brevets pré-existants, la vitesse d'hydrogé- nation est trop faible pour permettre l'exploitation indus- .trielle. Dans notre procédé, il a été établi que la présen- ce d'un ion hydroxyle accélère la réaction ; cetion hydroxy- le pourrait être ainsi assimilé à un catalyseur à condition de ne pas participer à la réaction de dismutation (de Canni- zzaro) qu'il provoque.
Les travaux qui ont conduit à la présente invention ont permis de déterminer les conditions dans lesquelles cette réaction de dismutation peut être très fortement réduite, pratiquement annulée, de telle manière que la réaction puisse être considérée comme bicatalytique.
A cette fin, on substitue à un ion OH libre (base) des ré- sines alcalines; on a constaté, notamment, qu'avec l'emploi de ces résines, on atteint des vitesses d'hydrogénation ex- ploitables industriellement avec un rendement voisin de 100%
Le procédé suivant l'invention est caractéris é par le fait qu'on effectue l'hydrogénation catalytique en présence d'au moins un échangeur d'ions non soluble.
Ce procédé peut être utilisé aussi bien dans des systèmes continus que discontinus.
On utilisera de préférence un échangeur d'ions al- calin.
Dans ces conditions, les produits à fonction car- bonyle sont dans un milieu alcalin seulement au moment de deur contact avec l'échangeur d'ions, et l'influence cata- lytique du catalyseur métallique sur la réaction parasite

L'appareil représenté dans la figure 1 comprend un tube vertical 1 divisé en hauteur en une série de compar- timents 2 par des cloisons horizontales perforées 3 Le produit à réduire est introduit dans l'appareil en 4, au haut du tube 1; l'hydrogène est amené en 5, au bas du tube; il ressort en 6 au haut du tube, et peut être réintroduit en 5, en une opération de recyclage. Le produit obtenu par la réduction est soutiré en 7. Le catalyseur et l'échangeur d'ions sont disposés sur les cloisons 3, en 8.
L'appareil représenté dans la figure 2 comprend un récipient 9 dans lequel est contenue la solution 10 du produit à réduire, introduit par une conuuite 11..Un mélan- geur lent 12 est disposé dans la solution 10 Des chicanes

Le réacteur de la figure 3 comprend deux récipi ents 20 et 21, analogues au récipient 9 de la figure 2, mon tés en série. Le produit obtenu par la réduction dans le ré- cipient 20 est envoyé, par une conduite 22, dans le récipient
21 où la réduction est parachevée.
Les exemples suivants indiquent différentes maniè res de mettre en oeuvre le procédé suivant l'invention.
EXEMPLE 1 : 'On -prend une solution de 1 kg de glucose dissous dans 3 kg d'eau. Cette solution aqueuse est introduire au sommet de l'appareil (figure 1) aux différents étages duquel on a placé un analyseur formé dé Raney nickel et un échan- geur d'ions de réaction alcaline (par exemple le produit con. nu dans le commerce .sous le nom d'amberlite En même temps, on introduit au bas de l'appareil un courant d'hydrogène sous pression normale. Au fur et à mesure que la solution de glucose est réduite, on extrait en 8 une solution pure de sorbitol alors que la très faible quantité d'acide gluco- nique formé pendant le contact avec l'échangeur d'ions par une dismutation reste fixée sur l'échangeur d'ions.
L'opération s'effectuant à contenu, on a soin de régénérer, l'échangeur d'ions par entraînement avec une solu- tion aqueuse alcaline, ce qui permet d'obtenir le sel de l'acide gluconique correspondant à l'état pur. Pour permette d'effectuer une telle régénération, snas interompre l'hydro- génation, 1-'installation utilisée devra comprendre plusieurs tubes tel que le tube 1.
