 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

  Exemple 4.

   4,4'-dichloro-2,2'-diméthyl-sulfurylanilide.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 de chloruration fond à 169-170-2 be manière analogue on obtient
 EMI5.1
 à partir de 3,3'-trïchlorofluorométhy3.sulfurylan.lide un produit de chloruration qui fond à 130 C.

  Exemple 7.

P.F. : 155 -   157 0.   A partir d'essence (de nettoyage) on l'obtient en petites aiguilles fon- dant à 157-158 C.

  It has just been discovered that diarylsulfurylamides or
 EMI1.1
 arylalkylsulfuryiaraides or arylaralkylsulfurylamides, which can optionally be substituted symmetrically or asymmetrically, have insecticidal activity and are particularly suitable in the textile sector for protection against textile pests.

   Compounds which correspond to the following formula should be used:
 EMI1.2
 R here signifying one or more halogen or trifluoro-

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 which may optionally be substituted by halogen or trifluoromethyl groups. These compounds are particularly suitable for the protection of textiles against the action of insects, such as, for example, moths, "little silver fish", termites, as well as against the effect of attack by molds. sour and bacteria.

   The compounds of the present application are in part known and can be obtained by causing sulfuryl chloride to act on about 2 moles of an aromatic or heterocyclic primary amine in the presence of high-boiling tertiary bases, in particularly pyridine and similar compounds. Trifluoromethyl compounds have not heretofore been described in the literature, but they can, however, be prepared easily in an analogous manner. In the experimental part of the present application some examples of the preparation of the compounds according to the invention are given.

   The application of the agents according to the invention can be carried out by methods common in practice, for example from organic solvents in chemical cleaning, in the form of salts soluble in water or in the state of. 'emulsion or dispersions from aqueous liquor in the textile industry, as an addition to soaping and fulling liquors, in the form of powder during the cleaning of furs, as an addition to dyeing baths under the form of water soluble salts, etc.

   The following examples illustrate the application of the compounds according to the invention.

  Example 1.
 EMI2.1

  0.05 g of 2,2 ', q., 4', 5,5'-hexachlorosulfurylanilide (PF 157-158 C) is dissolved in 100 cm3 of a mixture of equal parts of acetone and of benzene. With this one impregnates pieces of wool and one expresses them with the scarf so that the liquor

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 absorbed is equivalent to the weight of wool. (100% expression effect). The article is air dried; it is active against moths.

  Example 2.

   As can be seen from the following example, salts can also be used successfully:
0.025 - 0.1 g of the sodium salt of the compound of Example 1 is dissolved in one liter of water. In this bath, 100 g of wool are treated at approximately 60 ° C. for 3/4 of an hour, then rinsed for a short time in a cold state and then dried at 70 ° C. The article has good protection against moths.

   Instead of the compounds mentioned above, it is also possible to use with good results: 3,3 ', 4,4'-tetrachlorsulfurylanilide, 2,2'-dichloro-5,5'-di-trifluoromethylsulfurylanilide, 2,2 '-di-trifluoromethyl-4,4'-dichlorosulfurylanilide.

  The following examples will show the preparation of these compounds: Example 3
2,4,2 ', 4'-tetrachloro-sulfurylanilide.

   In a solution of 25 g of sulfurylanilide in 150 cm3 of glacial acetic acid, chlorine is passed at 40-45 C while stirring, and hydrochloric acid is thus released.

  As soon as the four times molar quantity of chlorine has been absorbed, a colorless grainy precipitate begins to separate. The excess chlorine is expelled by passing through nitrogen, 100 cm3 of water are added and the crystalline precipitate is filtered off by vacuum.

  After drying 30.5 g (79% of theory) of 2,4,2 ', 4' tetrachlorosulfurylanilide are obtained which, after recrystallization from chloroform, melts at 149-150.5 C.

  Example 4.

   4,4'-dichloro-2,2'-dimethyl-sulfurylanilide.

   Gradually heated to about 75 C 27.6 g of 2.2'-

   25 g of sulfurylanilide are dissolved in 150 cm3 of glacial acetic acid and after addition of about 0.5 g of chloride. of sublimated iron is added at 50 ° C. while stirring 32 g of bromine dropwise. As soon as the solution has cleared up, 100 cm 3 of water are added thereto, the precipitate which has settled down is separated under vacuum after cooling and recrystallized from chloroform. 32 g of 2,2 ', 4,4'-tetrabromo-sulfuryl-anilide (= 60% of theory) are obtained in the form of colorless crystals melting at 128-131 C.

  Example 6.

   32 parts by weight of 3,3'-dichlorosulfurylanilide are dissolved in 300 parts by volume of glacial acetic acid and approximately 36 g of chlorine are introduced slowly in the presence of a certain quantity of ferric chloride. The filtered solution is concentrated in vacuo. The crystalline suspension which has precipitated is removed in vacuo, dissolved in about 5% hot caustic soda, some dirt is removed by filtration and hydrochloric acid is added until it has an acidic red reaction. congo. The precipitate is filtered off under vacuum, washed, dried, dissolved in ether, decolorized with charcoal and the ether evaporated to dryness.

   The product

 EMI5.1
 from 3,3'-trichlorofluoromethy3.sulfurylan.lide a chlorination product which melts at 130 C.

  Example 7.

   Into a solution of 127.5 parts by weight of 3-chloranilin in approximately 250 parts by volume of pyfidine is slowly introduced dropwise while stirring and cooling with an ice-salt mixture 68 parts by weight of sulfuryl chloride . After completion of the reaction, it is neutralized by adding 60 parts by weight of sodium carbonate (anhydrous) and 100 parts of water and the pyridine is removed in vacuo by distillation in a water bath. The residue is washed with hot water and the residual oily product is thoroughly extracted with 5% caustic soda. The alkaline sodium liquors are combined, purified with charcoal and the filtrate is carefully acidified with hydrochloric acid.

   3,3'-Dichlorosulfurylanilide occurs in the form of an almost colorless precipitate with a good yield. M.P .: 155 - 157 0. From gasoline (cleaning) it is obtained in small needles melting at 157-158 C.
