Pour l'application du dispositif décrit à un ressortà, lames, on peut procéder, par e-xemple, comme suit- On dévisse l'écrou du boulong du res- sc,rt. On rapporte sur celui-ci la lame ad ditionnelle e. cela après avoir préalablement muni cette lame, en les points voulus, des étriersh qu'on veut lui faire comporter, ainsi que de sa garniture f;
Leaf oscillation damper device in the leaf suspension springs. The object of the present invention is a device for damping the oscillations of the blades in the leaf suspension springs, such as they are used, for example, in motor cars. This shock-absorbing device comprises an additional blade attached to the res sort of suspension so to be applied by parts against the ends of the blades thereof, in seen that, during an ellan- gation of the radius of curvature of the spring, the leaves of the latter are brought to undergo, by the additional leaf, a friction effect capable of damping their oscillations .
In the accompanying drawing, given to as an example: Figs. 1 and 2 show, respectively in elevation and in plan, one embodiment of the object of the invention; Fig. 3 shows, analogously to in fig. 1, another embodiment (the invention, Figs. 4 and 5, finally, show, with larger lightning , in elevation and in section following at # to, fig. 4, part of this second f execution elm.
Referring to Figs. 1 and 2, the leaf spring shown comprises a braided master leaf a, secondary or running leaves b, a bolt g ', with corresponding nut g', assembling all these boards together by their center, so that their whole can be fixed, with using brackets c and corresponding nuts c ', on the axle d of the tines to receive it.
This spring is taken with a flexibility slightly greater than that which should be given to it normally, this in such a way that the flexibility which it will have with the shock-absorbing device is suitable y -issociated. Its blades are worked, for example à la. grinding wheel, so that their ends are tapered. The leaf spring is provided with an additional curved leaf e, of deflection advantageously less than that of the spring as well as of length such that, assembled with the latter so that it occupies the opposite face to, that occupied by the master leaf a, it passes to the right of the ends of the leaves of the spring to end near the ends of the master leaf.
The additional blade e is lined, on its inner face, with a trim f, advantageously in Jerrodo ", this trim extends, it int all along the di e interior face.
Stirrups in U, li, fixed, by a rivet, to the additional blade and are used to the latter against the bevelled ends of the leaves of the spring. A-Lriers are each completed by an axis i passing through the branches of the caliper and carrying a roller j passing over the master blade a and which is stressed, both by the elasticity of the additional blade, and by that of the spring proper, to bear on the upper face of the master blade a of the latter, the axis i being held in the caliper by nuts i '.
For the application of the device described to a with, leaf spring, one can proceed, for example, as follows - Unscrew the nut of the bolt g of the res - sc, rt. We bring on this the additional blade e. this after having previously fitted this blade, at the desired points, with the h stirrups that we want it to include, as well as its trim f;
this blade is fixed in position to using said bolt g. Then, the brackets li are fitted with the axis i with the roller j, the arrangement of the brackets h being such that, as shown in fig. 1 and 2. the additional blade is applied well, by trim sit, in all its length on the res sort on which it is attached and is to the shelter any risk of buckling.
a suspension spring thus equipped and mounted on a motor car works as follows: When a roughness occurs, first of all, the spring of the. wheel which meets it is brought to increase in radius of curvature, so that the additional blade e, or, more exactly, its lining f, ceases to be in contact with said spring and that the increase in radius of curvature can occur freely, without the body of the car being significantly influenced; the tapered ends of the leaves of the spring play less and less.
Then, when the reverse movement occurs, and the spring returns to its initial position, the lining f of the additional blade e gradually comes back into contact with spring, mutual friction does not take long to become very intense, as a result of the action of the said tapered ends, of so that, if everything has been judiciously established, we obtains such an effect that the movements which the spring tends to accomplish are strongly braked towards the moment when the latter returns to its rest position, thus seeming to avoid the blow of racket".
On the contrary, does it come to a hole. We arrive, in practice, to similar effects, because, if the body accompanies, in fact, the wheel at the beginning of the crossing of the hole, this wheel comes, in fact also, so to speak immediately again. in contact with the ground, so that we find ourselves, from this moment, in the case of a roughness; the "racket stroke" following the crossing of the hole is suppressed.
In the execution form of fig. 3 to 5, the trim f of the additional blade e extends only over the end parts to tapered leaf ends of the spring < B> with blades a b, against which the additional blade e is held, on the one hand, by 'triers k with transverse axis 1 carrying nuts l ' and, on the other hand, by pairs of stirrups lê,' A ', movable relative to each other to </ B > the other, one of which is applied from below against the additional blade e, while the other engages, from above, by means of axis i with roller j , on the master blade a of the e 2 spring,
a clamping screw being screwed into a corresponding thread provided in the transverse part of the caliper h 'and resting against the transverse part of the caliper M to allow a relative displacement to be produced between the calipers li' li '< B> to the effect of tightening the additional blade against the leaf spring.
The invention is not limited to the embodiments described. Thus the dis- position of the calipers could be in some sort reversed, their transverse part being fixed on the master blade and the rollers, or their equivalent elements, being arranged in such a way. to be worn on the external face of the additional blade. Then, the lining, instead of being attached to the internal face of this blade, would simply be attached to the internal face of the transverse branch of the stirrups, its length being concurrently limited to the width of this branch, etc.
