Description
Additional patent to main patent No. 311,205 Process for the production of a cobalt-containing azo dye It has been found that a new, valuable cobalt-containing azo dye is obtained if one uses the monoazo dye of the formula
EMI0001.0009
lets cobalt-releasing agents act in such a way that a cobalt-containing azo dye is created,
which contains two monoazo dye molecules bound to a cobalt atom in a complex.
The new cobalt-containing dye is a water-soluble powder which dyes wool in a weakly alkaline, neutral or acidic bath in greenish blue shades of good fastness properties.
The monoazo dye used as starting material and corresponding to the above formula can be prepared by coupling 2-amino-naplitha.lin-7-sulfonic acid-N-methylamide using methods known per se, eg. B. with means of hydrochloric acid and sodium nitrite diazotized 5-nitro-2-amino-1-oxybenzene who the.
The treatment with the cobalt-releasing thirds takes place according to the present process in such a way that a cobalt-containing dye is produced which contains less than one atom of cobalt in a complex bond per molecule of dye. Accordingly, the metallization is expediently carried out with such cobalt-releasing agents and by such methods which, experience has shown, provide complex cobalt compounds of this composition.
It is generally advisable to use less than one, but at least half an atom of cobalt for a molecule of a dye and / or perform the metallization in a weakly acidic to alkaline medium.
Cobalt salts such as cobalt sulfate or cobalt acetate, and if necessary freshly precipitated cobalt hydroxide, are expediently used as cobalt-releasing agents. Example 15.4 parts of 5-nitro-2-amino-1-oxybenzene are dissolved in 60 parts of water with the addition of 4 parts of sodium hydroxide,
25 parts by volume of 4N sodium nitrite solution were added and slowly poured into 200 parts of an aqueous solution containing 5.4% sulfuric acid and 15.% a-naphthalenesulfonic acid, the temperature being kept below -f-8 by external cooling.
A hot solution of 23.6 parts of 2-aminonaphthalene-7-sulfonic acid = N-methylamide in 12 parts of 30% hydrochloric acid and 60 parts of water is allowed to flow into the diazo suspension or solution obtained. After prolonged stirring at 85 to -10, the coupling is complete. The precipitated dye is filtered off and washed with water. When dried it turns a brown; red powder, which hardly dissolves in water, in dilute sodium hydroxide solution and in concentrated sulfuric acid with red violet color.
-1.01 parts of the dye thus obtained are dissolved with the addition of 8 parts by volume of 2N sodium hydroxide solution in 150 parts of 80 water and 10 parts of a solution of cobalt sulfate with a cobalt content of 3 are added to the solution obtained. 250h given and stirred for 30 minutes at 80 to 85. After this time, the metallization is finished. The dye is deposited by adding sodium chloride, filtered and dried.
