Die nach vorliegendem Verfahren erhaltenen Metallkomplexverbindungen eignen sich zum Färben und Bedrucken verschiedenster Stoffe; sofern sie eine genügende Löslichkeit im Wasser besitzen, können sie zum Färben tierischer Materialien, wie Seide, Leder und insbesondere Wolle, aber auch zum Fär ben und Bedrucken synthetischer Fasern aus Super polyamiden und Superpolyurethanen aus wässerigem, zum Beispiel aus schwach alkalischem, neutralem oder schwach saurem Bade verwendet werden, wäh rend die in Wasser weniger bis nicht löslichen Kom plexe eine gute Löslichkeit in verschiedenen orga nischen Lösungsmitteln zeigen;
Man erhält sehr lichtechte Töne.
Process for the production of new metal-containing azo dyes It has been found that new valuable azo dyes containing one of the metals of the B. group of the periodic system in complex bound form are obtained if one uses monoazo dyes which are derived from sulfonic acid groups and not in o- Position to the azo group are free carboxyl groups and the formula
EMI0001.0011
correspond, where R is a residue of the benzene series,
which is bonded to the azo group adjacent to the COOH group, and A-OH denotes the remainder of an azo component bonded to the azo group adjacent to the hydroxyl group and containing the hydroxyl group in an aliphatic chain or in a six-membered, preferably aromatic, ring, alone or in a mixture with other metallizable monoazo dyes, metal-donating agents whose metals have an atomic number of 26 to 28 can act.
The monoazo dyes which are used as starting materials in the present process and correspond to the above formula can be obtained by combining o-carboxydiazo compounds of the benzene series which are free of sulfonic acid groups and which contain no other carboxyl groups with sulfonic acid and carboxyl group-free azo components,
which can couple with the o-carboxydiazo compounds mentioned in the vicinity of an aliphatic or a six-membered, preferably aromatic ring-bound oxy group.
The dyes obtained in this way can contain a wide variety of substituents, such as halogen atoms such as bromine and chlorine, alkyl groups such as methyl, alkoxy groups such as methoxy, both in the diazo and in the azo component, with the exception of sulfonic acid groups and non-groups , Nitro groups, acylamino groups, sulfonic acid aryl ester groups,
-S02R groups in which R is alkyl, aryl, aralkyl or the group
EMI0001.0057
in the o-position to the azo group can mean carboxyl, where X can be hydrogen, alkyl, aryl or aralkyl and Y can be hydrogen, alkyl or aralkyl.
A single substituent or two or more identical or different substituents can be present in the azo dye. Examples of diazo components which lead to monoazo dyes that can be used as starting materials for the present process include:
2-aminobenzene-l-carboxylic acid-4-sulfonic acid amide, 2-aminobenzene-l-carboxylic acid-5-sulfonic acid amide, 2-aminobenzene-l-carboxylic acid-5-sulfonic acid-N-methylamide, 2-aminobenzene-l-carboxylic acid-5- sulfonic acid anilide, 4-chloro- or 4-nitro-2-aminobenzene-1-carboxylic acid and above all the unsubstituted 2-amino benzoic acid itself.
As azo components for the produc- tion of the monoazo dyes of the formula (1) used as starting materials in the present process, on the one hand, those compounds that can couple in an adjacent position to form an aliphatically bonded oxy group, that is to say compounds which have a carbon atom capable of coupling in an open one Contain chain, in particular ß-keto-carboxylic acid derivatives,
preferably -arylides, such as acetoacetic anilide, acetoacetic acid o-chloranilide, acetoacetic acid-m-chloroanilide, 1-aceto-acetylaminobenzene-2-, -3- or -4-sulfonic acid amides, etc., and on the other hand oxy compounds that have a coupling contain a viable carbon atom in a six-membered ring, such as 5-chloro-8-oxyquinoline,
2,4-Dioxyquinoline, barbituric acid and especially aromatic oxy compounds of this type, for example p-substituted oxybenzenes such as 4-methyl-1-oxybenzene, 4-isopropyl-1-oxybenzene, 4-tertiaryamyl-1-oxybenzene, 2, 4- or 3,4-dimethyl-l-oxybenzene, 4-acetylamino-3-methyl or
-3,5-dimethyl-1-oxybenzene, 4-methyl-2-acetylamino-1-oxybenzene, 4-acetylamino-1-oxybenzene, 4-methyl-2-methoxy-1-oxybenzene, 4n butyryl-amino-1 -oxybenzene, 4-methyl-2-butyrylamino-1-oxybenzene, 4-tertiaryamyl-2-formylamino-1-oxybenzene, 4-methyl-1-oxyphenyl (2) -carbamic acid methyl ester and in particular oxynaphthalenes,
such as, for example, 2 - oxynaphthalene, 2,6 - dioxynaphthalene, 2 - oxy-6-methoxynaphthalene, 6-bromo-2-oxynaphthalene, 2-oxynaphthalene-6-sulfonic acid amides, 1-oxynaphthalene-4-sulfonic acid amide, 1-acetylamino - 7 - oxynaphthalene, 1 n-butyrylamino-7-oxynaphthalene.
The coupling of the o-carboxydiazo compounds with the azo components mentioned can be carried out by customary methods known per se, for example in a weakly acidic to alkaline medium.
After the coupling reaction has ended, the dyes for metallization can easily be separated by filtration from the coupling mixture, if appropriate after addition of sodium chloride, since they are only slightly soluble in water. They are expediently used as filter cake without intermediate drying for metallization. In some cases it is also possible to carry out the metallization directly in the coupling mixture without intermediate deposition.
As metal donors of the specified type suitable for the present process, that is to say as iron, nickel and, above all, cobalt donors, for example simple salts of the specified metals such as nickel sulfate, cobalt sulfate or cobalt acetate may be mentioned. In some cases, the use of complex metal compounds is advantageous, for example in the form of metal-ammine complexes, such as nickel tetrammine sulfate from ammonia,
Pyridine or monoethanolamine, or in the form of compounds which hold one of the metals mentioned in complex bound ent in the anion, for example complex cobalt compounds of the alkali salts of aliphatic aminocarboxylic acids or oxycarboxylic acids, such as glycocolla, lactic acid and especially tartaric acid.
The conversion of the dyes into the complex metal compounds takes place with advantage in the heat, openly or under pressure, for example at the boiling point of the reaction mixture, if necessary in the presence of suitable additives, for example in the presence of salts of organic acids, bases, organic solvents , such as alcohol, or other agents promoting complex formation.
A particular embodiment of the present process is characterized in that it starts from mixtures of two different metallizable monoazo dyes, both of which correspond to the general definition mentioned at the beginning or of which one corresponds to the general definition mentioned at the beginning and the other one of sulfonic acid - and carboxyl groups-free monoazo dye, especially an o, o'-dioxy monoazo dye.
As examples of o, o'-dioxymonoazo dyes which can be used as starting materials in this embodiment of the process with the dyes of the formula (1), in particular those are to be mentioned which are obtained by coupling an o-oxydiazo compound of the benzene series with an in Adjacent position to a hydroxyl group or an enolizable keto group coupling compounds can be obtained.
Examples of suitable o-oxydiazo compounds for the preparation of these dyes are: 4-chloro-2-amino-1-oxybenzene, 4,6-dichloro-2-amino-1-oxybenzene, 3,4,6-trichloro-2 - amino-l-oxybenzene, 4-, 5- or 6-nitro-2-amino-l-oxybenzene, 4-methyl-5- or -6-nitro-2-amino-l-oxybenzene,
4- chloro-5- or 6-nitro-2-amino-1-oxybenzene and in particular 4-nitro-6-chloro-2-amino-1-oxybenzene, 4- nitro-6-acetylamino-2-amino-1 -oxybenzene, 4,6-di-nitro-2-amino-1-oxybenzene, 4-tertiaryamyl-6-nitro-2-amino-1-oxybenzene. Good results are also obtained with diazo compounds of amines containing sulfonic groups or amines containing sulfonic acid amide groups,
such as, for example, the diazo compounds from 2-amino-1-oxybenzene-4- or -5-sulfonic acid amides or 2-amino-1-oxybenzene-4- or -5-alkyl or -arylsulfones.
As azo components for the preparation of these o, o'-dioxymonoazo dyes, for example pyrazolones such as 1-phenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone and 1-phenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone-3'-sulfonic acid amide come into consideration , 1-phenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone-3'-N-methylsulfonic acid amide, and also a-naphthols, such as 5,8-dichloro-1-oxynaphthalene, and the further above in the preparation of the dyes of formula (1)
mentioned azo components.
In this embodiment of the process, the cobalt-releasing agents in particular provide valuable results.
The products available according to the described procedure are new. They are complex metal compounds of sulfonic acid group-free monoazo dyes, the metal atoms of which have an atomic number from 26 to 28 and whose at least one monoazo dye is free from carboxyl groups which are not in the o-position to the azo group and of the formula
EMI0003.0001
corresponds to where R is a residue of the benzene series,
which is bonded to the azo group adjacent to the COOH group, and A-OH denotes the remainder of an azo component bonded to the azo group adjacent to the hydroxyl group, which represents the hydroxyl group in an aliphatic chain or in a six-membered, preferably aromatic Includes ring.
The new cobalt compounds corresponding to this definition usually contain two monoazo dye molecules complexed to one atom of cobalt, while the nickel complex compounds are preferably 1: 1 complexes, i.e. complexes that contain one atom of nickel complexed per monoazo dye molecule.
The metal complex compounds obtained by the present process are suitable for dyeing and printing a wide variety of materials; If they have sufficient solubility in water, they can be used for dyeing animal materials such as silk, leather and especially wool, but also for dyeing and printing synthetic fibers made from super polyamides and super polyurethanes made from aqueous, for example weakly alkaline, neutral or weak acidic baths are used, while the complexes which are less or less soluble in water show good solubility in various organic solvents;
These little to insoluble complexes are particularly suitable for dyeing spinning masses, such as acetyl cellulose, and as transparent dyes for lacquers, for example nitrocellulose ester lacquers, and in particular for dyeing masses made from natural or synthetic resins, cellulose derivatives (celluloid ) or from animal substances such as casein or gelatine. Very lightfast tones are obtained.
In the following examples, unless otherwise stated, the parts are parts by weight, the percentages are percentages by weight, and the temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.
Example 1 14.6 parts of the dye from diazotized 2-aminobenzoic acid and ß-naphthol are dissolved in 250 parts of water and 250 parts of sec. Suspended butyl alcohol. A solution of 4.7 parts of cobalt sulfate (CoS04) and 4.5 parts of tartaric acid, dissolved in 60 parts of water, is added and, after addition of 12 parts of isopropylamine, it is heated to boiling for 8 hours.
The butyl alcohol is then distilled off and the dyestuff which has precipitated in the residue is filtered off and dried. It is a dark olive powder which dissolves in alcohol and acetone with an olive green color. A solution in nitro lacquer produces yellow-tinged olive-green paints with good lightfastness on suitable substrates.
Example 2 12.8 parts of the dye from diazotized 2-aminobenzoic acid and 4-methyl-1-oxybenzene are suspended in 500 parts of water and, after adding a complex solution of 4.7 parts of cobalt sulfate (CoS04) , 4.5 parts of tartaric acid in 60 parts of water and 60 parts of 2N sodium hydroxide solution boiled under reflux for 6 hours.
The deposited and dried dye is a dark olive powder which dissolves in water with an olive brown color and dyes wool from a neutral or weakly acidic bath in olive shades of good fastness properties.
Dyeing instructions 0.5 part of the cobalt-containing dye obtainable according to Example 2 is dissolved in 4000 parts of water, 4 parts of ammonium acetate are added and 100 parts of well-wetted wool are added at 40 to 50 to the resulting dye bath one. Then 3 parts of 40 percent acetic acid are added, the mixture is brought to the boil within half an hour and colored at the boil for hours. Finally, the wool is rinsed with cold water and dried. A uniform olive dyeing with good fastness properties is obtained.
