Description
Couche photographique
La présente invention a pour objet une couche photographique comprenant un colloïde hydrophile contenant un colorant acide.
Les matériels photographiques comprenant des couches filtres ou photo-absorbantes sont bien connus.
Ces couches contiennent souvent des colorants organiques. La position de la couche dans le matériel dépend de son but, et elle peut être étendue comme couche externe lorsqu'une action filtrante globale est désirée, entre des couches lorsqu'une action filtrante sélective est désirée ou contre le support pour une action antihalo.
Les colorants utilisés dans ces couches filtrantes ou absorbantes exercent souvent un effet nuisible sur les couches photo-sensibles utilisées dans le matériel photographique, et il est donc important qu'elles ne diffusent pas dans les couches adjacentes. Souvent, on prévient cette diffusion par la technique bien connue du mordançage, consistant à transformer un colorant plus ou moins soluble en un complexe insoluble au moyen d'un composé mordant. Après le développement du matériel photographique en question, il est en général important que les colorants présents dans les diverses couches filtrantes et absorbantes soient libérés, de préférence par l'action d'une ou plusieurs des solutions révélatrices.
On a préparé des couches colorées pour matériels photographiques, ces couches contenant un composé à relativement haut poids moléculaire et possédant des charges ioniques opposées à celles du colorant photoabsorbant présent dans la couche. Par exemple, un colorant acide peut être mordancé par un composé à haut poids moléculaire possédant des groupes basiques tel que décrit dans les brevets USA Nr. 2 701 243 et 2 768 078. Lorsque ces couches sont immergées dans une solution alcaline, par exemple une solution d'un révélateur photographique, le colorant est libéré du mordant et est rendu incolore.
Cependant, le mordant reste dans la couche et conserve son action mordante vis-à-vis des composés acides, ce qui provoque l'absorption d'un nombre appréciable d'ions thiosulfate si, comme c'est normalement le cas, le matériel photographique est placé dans une solution fixatrice acide après le développement. La présence des ions thiosulfate tend à diminuer la stabilité de l'image formée sur le matériel.
La présente invention est basée sur l'emploi de mordants pour colorants acides, dont l'action mordante est réduite définitivement par l'action des solutions alcalines.
La couche photographique qui fait l'objet de l'invention comprend un colloïde hydrophile contenant un colorant acide. Elle est caractérisée en ce que le colorant est mordancé dans la couche par un composé à azote quaternaire, soluble dans l'eau, ayant une masse moléculaire au moins égale à 300 et choisi parmi les composés de formules suivantes:

La méthode de préparation des composés de formule I dépend du type de composé à préparer. Par exemple, on peut préparer les sels de pyridinium de formule I à partir des sels de pyrrylium correspondants, par réaction avec l'aminophénol approprié comme décrit ci-après. Les sels de la plupart des autres bases hétérocycliques dans lesquelles le reste phénolique se trouve dans le groupe fixé sur l'atome d'azote peuvent être préparés, par exemple, comme l'illustre la réaction suivante dans laquelle le groupe R contient un reste phénolique, tel que défini précédemment:

Il est avantageux de chauffer à température de reflux pendant plusieurs minutes, ou même davantage, et il se forme alors un précipité solide dans la solution. On recueille ce précipité dans un entonnoir filtrant, et il est utilisable sans purification. On peut cependant le purifier en le lavant avec un liquide qui ne le dissout pas, tel que le benzène et en le séchant.

Comme mentionné précédemment, les mordants définis ci-dessus, lorsqu'ils sont présents dans des couches photographiques, perdent leur pouvoir de mordançage en milieu alcalin. En effet, en pH alcalin, ils forment un ion amphotère dont les charges se compensent mutuellement et perdent en même temps leur aptitude à agir comme mordant, en sorte que le colorant mordancé se trouve libéré et peut ensuite être éliminé du système. Ces mordants, qui perdent leur pouvoir de mordançage en milieu alcalin, ont donc pour avantage principal de ne retenir ni le colorant précédemment mordancé, ni l'ion thiosulfate du bain de fixage, après le développement, contrairement à d'autres mordants de même pouvoir de mordançage, à condition que le bain de thiosulfate utilisé soit neutre ou faiblement alcalin.
La formation d'un ion amphotère par traitement dans un alcali est illustrée ci-dessous dans le cas du composé de formule IV.

La couche photographique de l'invention est utilisable pour la fabrication de matériels photosensibles comprenant un support sur lequel est étendue au moins une couche d'un colloïde hydrophile contenant un mordant tel que défini ci-dessus, laquelle couche peut également contenir un halogénure d'argent photosensible. Cependant, les matériels photographiques photosensibles préférés comprennent un support portant au moins une couche d'un colloïde hydrophile contenant un mordant tel que défini ci-dessus et au moins une couche d'émulsion d'halogénure d'argent photosensible.
On prépare habituellement les couches filtres et antihalo, contenant le mordant, en étendant sur le support ou sur le matériel photographique, de manière connue, une solution aqueuse contenant au moins un mordant tel que défini ci-dessus, un colorant acide, un liant colloïdal hydrophile perméable à l'eau et un adjuvant de couchage, par exemple de la saponine. Dans la plupart des cas, il est également désirable d'ajouter des agents qui durcissent le liant colloïdal, afin que la couche filtre reste intacte dans le matériel photographique pendant et après les opérations du développement. Si nécessaire, on ajuste le pH de la solution de revêtement à une valeur compatible avec la couche d'émulsion photosensible par les méthodes usuelles.
On peut faire varier les proportions du mordant, du colorant, du liant colloïdal, du durcisseur et de l'adjuvant de couchage dans de grandes limites, en fonction des exigences particulières pour le matériel photographique à fabriquer. Les méthodes utilisées pour déterminer les compositions optima sont bien connues et il n'est pas nécessaire de les exposer plus en détail ici. Les matières appropriées comme support comprennent toutes celles couramment employées en photographie, par exemple l'acétate de cellulose, le propionate de cellulose, l'acétobutyrate de cellulose, le nitrate de cellulose, des résines synthétiques telles que le nylon, les polyesters, le polystyrène, le polypropylène, ou encore le papier.
Les colloïdes hydrophiles utilisés pour constituer ces couches comprennent la gélatine, l'albumine, le collodion, la gomme arabique, l'agar-agar, des dérivés cellulosiques, tels que les esters alcoyliques de la cellulose carboxylée, l'hydroxyéthyl-cellulose, la carboxy méthylhydroxyéthylcellulose, l'alcool polyvinylique, la polyvinylpyrrolidone et les colloïdes hydrophiles analogues, notamment les résines synthétiques décrites au brevet USA Nr. 2 949 442.
Les colorants qui peuvent être mordancés dans la couche photographique selon l'invention peuvent être n'importe quel colorant de filtre comportant un ou plusieurs substituants acides tels que des groupes sulfo ou carboxyle, et comprennent par exemple les colorants oxonols décrits dans le brevet britannique Nr. 933 466, les colorants acides benzoxazolepyrazolone du type mérocyanine décrits dans le brevet britannique
Nr. 1 034 044. Cependant, n'importe quel colorant filtre contenant un ou plusieurs groupes sulfo ou carboxyle peut être employé, par exemple les colorants jaunes mentionnés dans le brevet britannique
Nr. 906 083.

Les agents tannants qui peuvent être utilisés dans les couches suivant l'invention comprennent le formaldéhyde, les acides aliphatiques substitués par des halogènes, tels que l'acide mucobromique, décrit dans le brevet USA Nr. 2 080 019, des composés contenant plusieurs groupes anhydride d'acide, tels que le dianhydride 7,8-diphényl-bicyclo(2'2,2)-7- octène-2,3,5,6-tétracarboxylique, les chlorures d'acides dicarboxyliques ou disulfoniques, tels que les chlorures de téréphtaloyle ou de naphta lène-15-disulfonyle, comme il est décrit aux brevets des
Etats-Unis Nr. 2 725 294 et 2 725 295.
Ces agents tannants comprennent aussi des 1,2-dicétones cycliques, telles que la cyclopentane 1,2-dione, comme il est décrit au brevet des Etats-Unis Nr. 2 725 305, les bis-esters de l'acide méthanesulfonique, tels que le 1,2-di-(méthane- sulfonoxy)éthane, comme décrit au brevet britannique
Nr. 729 345, la 1,3-dihydroxyméthylbenzimidazol-2-one comme décrit au brevet britannique Nr. 749 326, les dialdéhydes et leurs combinaisons avec le bisulfite de sodium, les fonctions aldéhyde étant séparées par deux ou par trois atomes de carbone, par exemple la combinaison de deux molécules de bisulfate de sodium et d'une molécule de fl-méthyl-glutaraldéhyde, comme décrit au brevet canadien Nr.
588 451, les bis-aziridinecarboxamides, tels que le triméthylène-bis(1-aziridi- necarboxamide), comme décrit au brevet des Etats
Unis Nr. 2 950 197, ou encore le 2,3-dihydroxydioxane, comme décrit au brevet britannique Nr. 805 120.
Les matériels photographiques comprenant ces couches filtre possèdent des couches d'émulsion photosensibles contenant du chlorure d'argent, du bromure d'argent, du chlorobromure d'argent, de l'iodure d'argent, du bromoiodure d'argent ou du chlorobromoiodure d'argent comme matières photosensibles. Les couches d'émulsion d'halogénure d'argent photosensibles peuvent être quelconques dans ces matériels photographiques. L'émulsion d'halogénure d'argent peut être sensibilisée par l'un quelconque des sensibilisateurs utilisés couramment, en vue de l'obtention des caractéristiques sensitométriques désirées.
On décrit ci-après des modes de préparation avantageux de mordants préférés et leur utilisation dans la couche photographique.
Iodure de 1-m-hydroxyphényl- 2,4,6-triphénylpyridinium

On chauffe à reflux pendant deux minutes un mélange équimolaire de m-aminophénol et d'iodure de 2,4,6-triphénylpyrrylium. Le produit cherché précipite.
Il suffit de le recueillir sur filtre, et on peut l'utiliser sans aucune purification.
Ce composé, en rapport de 5 parties en poids pour I partie en poids du colorant, mordance le colorant bis[3 -méthyl-1 -p-sulfophényl 2-pyrazolin-5-one-(4)] pentaméthine oxonol dans la gélatine sans aucun dégorgement au lavage à l'eau. Le colorant mordancé est partiellement détruit par traitement de la couche de gélatine (étendue sur une pellicule d'acétate de cellulose) dans un révélateur ayant la composition suivante:
Sulfate de N-méthyl-p-aminophénol 4,5 g
Sulfite de sodium, anhydre 90,0 g
Hydroquinone 8,0 g
Carbonate de sodium, monohydraté 52,5 g
Bromure de potassium 5,0 g
Eau, q. s. p. 1 litre
La décoloration augmente lorsqu'on élève l'alcalinité du révélateur par addition d'hydroxyde de sodium.
On fait disparaître la couleur jaune résiduelle par une acidulation subséquente de la couche de gélatine.
Si l'on traite un échantillon de cette couche dans un bain fixateur de composition suivante:
Thiosulfate de sodium 240,0 g
Sulfite de sodium, anhydre 15,0 g
Acide acétique à 28/100 48 ml
Acide borique cristallisé 7,5 g
Alun de potassium 15,0 g
Eau, q. s. p. 1 litre on constate un bon mordançage, une décoloration effective dans le révélateur et pas de rétention de thiosulfate du bain fixateur.
Les résultats de l'exemple 1 ont été exploités dans des couches étendues à la main sur des pellicules d'acétate de cellulose. Les mélanges fondus ont été préparés comme suit:
A 10 ml d'une gélatine photographique à 10 0/o, fondue, à 400 C, on ajoute 30 ou 50 mg de mordant, dissous dans 10 ml du solvant approprié. On ajuste le pH de cette solution à 4,5-5,0 par addition d'acide acétique cristallisable, puis on ajoute 10 mg du colorant bis[3-méthyl-1-p-sulfophényl-5-pyrazolone- (4)]pentaméthine-oxonol, dissous dans le solvant approprié, en agitant vigoureusement. On ajuste à nouveau le pH à 6,0+0,1, par addition d'une solution aqueuse de soude caustique 2,5 N; on ajoute un adjuvant de couchage. On complète le volume à 32 ml par addition d'eau distillée; on applique la composition sur le support et on sèche.
L'épreuve de dégorgement consiste à immerger une partie de la couche dans de l'eau distillée stagnante à 240 C pendant 2 minutes et à rechercher les signes de dégorgement du colorant de la couche de gélatine. En l'absence de dégorgement, on répète l'immersion pendant encore 2 minutes. On détermine l'aptitude à la décoloration en immergeant une partie de la couche dans le révélateur pendant 2 minutes et en observant l'atténuation de la couleur. Si l'on détermine également l'aptitude à la décoloration dans le bain fixateur, aucun des échantillons ci-dessus ne se décolore dans ces conditions. On détermine la rétention du thiosulfate par la méthode Ross-Crabtree sur des couches non exposées, traitées dans une machine de développement commerciale Recordak.
Iodure de l-[2-hydroxy-5- (2,4,4-triméthyl-2-p entyl)phényl] 2,4, 6-triphénylpyridinium

Le procédé est le même que dans l'exemple 1, sauf que l'on remplace le m-aminophénol par le 2-amino4-(2,4,4-triméthyl-2-pentyl)phénol.
Lorsqu'on essaie ce composé de manière semblable et avec le même colorant que dans l'exemple 1, on constate qu'il constitue un bon mordant perdant son pouvoir de mordançage en milieu alcalin, et qu'il ne retient ni colorant, ni des quantités mesurables de thiosulfate après développement complet.
Iodure de 1-(3,5-dibromo-4hydroxyphényl)-4,6-diphényl-2-picolinium

On procède comme dans l'exemple 1, mais en partant d'iodure de 2-méthyl-4,6-diphénylpyrrylium et de 4-amino-2,6-dibromophénol.
Si l'on essaie ce composé de la même manière que dans l'exemple 1, on constate un bon mordançage du colorant mentionné dans l'exemple 1, une bonne libération et décoloration du colorant au cours du développement et pas de rétention mesurable du thiosulfate du bain fixateur.
On peut remplacer les composés pyrrylium et les aminophénols utilisés aux exemples 1 à 3 par des quantités équivalentes des autres composés intermédiaires définis par les formules générales IV et V et on obtient toujours des composés utilisables dans des couches photographiques comme mordants perdant leurs propriétés de mordançage en milieu basique. Par exemple, des sels de pyrrylium utilisables comme intermédiaires de préparation sont les halogénures de 2-méthyl4, 6-ditolylpyrrylium (isomères m et p), les halogénures de 2, 6-diméthyl-4-(3-pyridyl)pyrrylium, les halogénures de 2,4-diphényl-6-propylpyrrylium, les halogénures de 2-éthyl-4,6-di-p-tolylpyrrylium, le chlorure de 2,4,6-triphénylpyrrylium, etc.
Des exemples d'aminophénols utilisables sont le m-aminophénol, le 2-amino-4-(2,4,4triméthyl-2-pentyl)phénol, le 4-amino-2,6-dibromophénol, etc.
Comme autres mordants de formules I et II utilisables avantageusement dans la couche photographique selon l'invention, on peut citer les suivants:
Si l'on substitue les mordants 4 à 11 à l'iodure de 1-m-hydroxyphényl-2,4,6 triphénylpyridinium dans l'exemple 1, on constate que ce sont d'excellents mordants qui libèrent totalement les colorants acides par traitement avec des solutions de développement alcalines. Les mordants 4 à 8 peuvent être préparés par les méthodes précédemment décrites. Les mordants 9 à 1 1 peuvent être préparés par alcoylation de l'amine de manière connue.
L'utilisation de ces mordants perdant leurs propriétés de mordançage en milieu basique, dans des couches filtre sur des couches d'émulsion d'halogénure d'argent photosensibles, et dans des sous-couches antihalo, pour l'obtention de matériel photographique perfectionné a été décrit ci-dessus. Cependant, on comprendra que l'on peut également avantageusement envisager des couches filtre, comprenant ces mordants placées entre deux ou plusieurs couches d'émulsion d'halogénure d'argent sensibilisées aux couleurs, ou des couches de dos antihalo, ou des couches comprenant en plus une émulsion d'halogénure d'argent photosensible, ou des couches pouvant être utilisées pour préparer des papiers récepteurs de transferts dans les procédés de transfert par imbibition.
Claims (1)
- REVENDICATIONCouche photographique comprenant un colloïde hydrophile contenant un colorant acide, caractérisée en ce que le colorant est mordancé dans la couche par un composé à azote quaternaire, soluble dans l'eau, ayant une masse moléculaire au moins égale à 300 et choisi parmi les composés de formules suivantes: EMI8.1 dans lesquelles:: d, met n sont chacun égal à 0 ou 1; R est un atome d'hydrogène ou un groupe alcoyle, alcoyle substitué, aryle ou aryle substitué; R3 est un groupe alcoyle, alcoyle substitué, aryle ou aryle substitué; R2 et R2 sont chacun un groupe alcoyle, alcoyle substitué, aryle ou aryle substitué, ou représentent ensemble un groupe alcoylène divalent contenant 4 ou 5 atomes de carbone dans la chaîne; X représente un anion d'acide;; B représente un groupe -CH = CH-, un groupe -(CH = CH)2-, un groupe -(CH = CH)3- ou un groupe p-phénylène, et Z représente les atomes nécessaires pour compléter un noyau non substitué ou substitué thiazole, benzothiazole, naphtothiazole, thionaphténo-7',6',4,5-thiazole, oxazole, benzoxazole, naphtoxazole, sélénazole, benzosélénazole, naphtosélénazole, thiazoline, quinoléine, isoquinoléine, 3, 3 -dialcoylindolénine, pyridine, imidazole, benzimidazole, naphtimidazole, thiadiazole, oxadiazole, triazole ou tétrazole, étant entendu qu'au moins l'un des groupes R, Rt et Z contient un groupe phénolique; jestégalàî,2ou3; d1 est égal à 1 ou 2;; R4 et Ro sont chacun un atome d'hydrogène ou d'halogène ou un groupe alcoyle, aryle, alcoxy, aryloxy, 2-thiényle, 2-pyrryle, 2-indolyle, 3-indolyle, 2-furyle, 3-pyridyle ou 4-pyridyle, lesdits groupes pouvant être substitués.SOUS-REVENDICATIONS 1. Couche photographique selon la revendication, caractérisée en ce que le colloïde hydrophile est la gélatine.2. Couche photographique selon la revendication, caractérisée en ce que le mordant est l'iodure de 1 -(3 ,5-dibromo-4-hydroxyphényl)- 4,6-diphénylpicolinium.5. Couche photographique selon la revendication, caractérisée en ce que le colorant acide est la 4-[(3-éthyl-2(3H)-benz oxazolylidène) -éthylidène] 3-méthyl-1-(p-sulfophényl)- 2-pyrazolin-5-one monosulfonée, la 4- [4-(3-éthyl-2(3H)-benz oxazolidène)-2-buténylidène] 3-méthyl-1-(p-sulfophényl)2-pyrazolin-5-one monosulfonée, le bis(acide 1-butyl-3-carboxyméthyl5-barbiturique)triméthine oxonol, le bis(acide 1-butyl-3carboxyméthyl-5-barbiturique) pentaméthineoxonol, le bis[3-méthyl-1- (p-sulfophényl)-2-pyrazolin- 5-one(4)]méthineoxonol, le bis[3-méthyl-1-(p-sulfo phényl)i2-pyrazolin-5-one (4)] triméthineoxonol ou le bis[3-méthyl-1 (p-sulfophényl)-2-pyrazolin-5 one(4)]pentaméthineoxonol.
