Description

Carburateur.

  La     fig.    1 en est une vue de côté en partie  en coupe verticale;  La     fig.    2     cri    est une vue en plan;  La     fig.    3 est une vue à plus grande  échelle d'un détail de la     fig.    1;    Les     fig.    4 et 5 sont des coupes verticales  de détail faites respectivement suivant les  ligues 4-4 et 5-5 de la     fig.    3;  Les     fig.        b    et 7 sont des vues de détail  montrant à part respectivement le tiroir ro  tatif de commande d'air et l'obturateur dudit  tiroir;

Carburetor. The object of the invention is a carburetor for internal combustion engines powered by a heavy liquid fuel which would not easily vaporize in air at usual temperatures and which must, therefore, be heated and vaporized before it is admitted into the air. the chamber where it is mixed with air. This carburetor comprises a vaporiser E @ t Lui burner and is characterized by means for distributing the liquid fuel.

from a single source of supply in desired proportions to the vaporizer and the burner, and by means for simultaneously controlling the admission of the vaporized fuel and of the air into the mixing chamber of the carburetor.

The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.

  Fig. 1 is a side view, partly in vertical section; Fig. 2 cry is a plan view; Fig. 3 is a view on a larger scale of a detail of FIG. 1; Figs. 4 and 5 are detail vertical sections made respectively according to leagues 4-4 and 5-5 of fig. 3; Figs. b and 7 are detail views showing separately respectively the rotary air control slide valve and the shutter of said slide valve;

Fig. 8 is a view on a larger scale with part in vertical section of another detail of FIG. 1.

The device shown comprises a carburetor 10 supplying fuel to the inlet 11 of an internal combustion machine (not shown). This machine drives a toothed wheel 12, which actuates the rotor 13 of a centrifugal pump rotating at high speeds. The fuel is blocked at the upper part of the body of this pump under the action of its own weight by a supply pipe 14, controlled by a tap 141. Under the action of the pump, whose speed, of rotation is proportional to that of the shaft .du engine of the machine, this fuel is injected into a vaporiser 15. This vaporizer .comprises two coaxial veloppes 16, 17.

The inner casing 16 projects below the outer casing 17 to form a cylinder 18 which forms the casing of an oil burner 21. These casings are kept spaced at a certain distance from each other. on the other by the two internally rounded ends of the cylinder 17, so as to leave between them an annular chamber 19 closed at its top and at its base for the pre-heating of the fuel.

This annular chamber is of relatively small thickness so as to maintain a thin layer of liquid against the outer wall of the inner casing 16, but its radius and its height give it a relatively large capacity compared to that of the heating coil. 38 of the vaporizer which will be described below. The upper end of the casing 16 is bent so as to establish a kind of discharge 20 for the combustion products of the oil burner 21, mounted inside the cylinder 18.

The lower end of cylinder 18 is closed by means of a bottom 22 and the side wall of this cylinder is pierced with air holes 23 to supply the burner with air. A cylindrical screen 24 is fixed, below the cylinder 16, around the perforated cylinder 18. This screen is closed at its upper part so as to form an air mattress 25 around the casing 18 of the burner 21.

The discharge end 26 of the pump 13 is connected by a coupling with two branches 27, on the one hand, in an adjustment device 28 regulating the admission of the fuel inside the vaporizer 15, above the burner and, on the other hand, in a similar device 29 regulating the admission of the fuel to the lower part of the annular pre-heating chamber 19.

The devices 28 and 29 being similar, only the device 28 will be described with reference to FIG. 8 of the drawing. It consists of a tubular body 291 having approximately the shape of a shell 31, the base of which is formed by an interchangeable threaded plug 33, and the tip of which extends into a cylindrical part, internally threaded, 30, in which is screwed the end of a tube 32 connecting the device 28 to the. vaporizer 15.

In the hollow body 31 opens one of the branches of the connector 27. The plug 33 carries internally in extension of its axis a tube 34 which passes through the chamber 31 over its entire length, and engages through its free end 37 on a internal shoulder 371 separating chamber 31 from cylindrical part 30. At its other end, this tube is widened so as to form, facing the arrival of the fuel, a chamber 35, in the wall of which openings 36 are formed.

For each device 28, 29 there is a set of plugs 33, in which these slots are differently calibrated so as to allow, by changing these plugs, to establish the desired ratio between the fuel inlet to the burner and the inlet. of fuel to the superheater.

A vaporization coil 38 is arranged vertically inside the casing 16 at the desired distance above the burner 21 to obtain the best thermal efficiency.

The inlet end 39 of the coil opens out to the upper part of the annular chamber 19, so as to receive the fuel previously heated by its passage in this chamber. The lower coil of the coil is brought back in the axis of the latter and is extended in the form of a pipe 40 rising vertically in the axis of the coil and the vaporizer, and opening out through the top of the coil. this last. The pipe 40 is connected by means of an elbow pipe 41 to the carburetor 10.

The body of the carburetor 10 has the shape of a truncated tubular cone 42, the axis of which is disposed horizontally and the small end of which is fixed by a flange by means of bolts 431 to the inlet manifold 11 of the machine. At its other end, this tubular body 42 is provided with a flange 4; 3 on the outer face of which ab puyer a ring 44 forming an envelopl) e for a rotary slide. This rotary slide and freely mounted in this envelope and comprises two members: a member 46 with lights 55 and hub 49, and a shutter member 47 having internally threaded means 50 and wings 59.

The hubs of these two members are mounted concentrically on a control shaft 48. Said members 46 and 47 are intended not only to receive a rotary movement making it possible to adjust, as will be seen below, the air intake of the carburetor, but they are furthermore arranged so that the air intake can take place even while the fuel control valve described below is in its closed position. For this purpose the member 46 has the form of a toothed gear wheel <B> 51. </B> and its hub 49 is freely mounted with a certain clearance on the threaded sleeve 50 mounted on the shaft 48 The member 46 is held between the flange 43 and the ring 44 so that during its rotational movement its side faces always remain in the same planes.

The teeth 51 are taken with the teeth of a pinion 52 housed inside the casing, and -caled on a pin 53 carried by the ring 44, on the one hand, and the flange 43, of somewhere else. This shaft has at one of its ends a knurled knob 54, by means of which the angular position of the disc 46 can be modified.

The toothed disc 46, as seen above, is provided with two apertures similar to each other 55 serving for the passage of air. These lights are diametrically opposed and have a triangular shape. One of their sides 56 extends over the same diameter of the disc, the other side 57 is circular and extends parallel to the periphery of the disc, and a third side, also curved 58, connects the ends of the other two sides. The conformation of these lights is such that the successive parallel distances between the outer and inner edges 57 and 58 gradually increase from the apex of the triangle to the side 56. The curve 58 is established experimentally.

The wings 59 of the shutter member 47 cooperate with the ports 55 to regulate the air intake from the outside to. through the drawer box. The free end of the axis 48 carries a hand lever _60, removable and fixed to said shaft by means of a bracket 61, while the other end of this shaft is conical and constitutes . The needle of a fuel control valve made to cooperate with the circular orifice 63 of an angled fuel discharge pipe 64 '.

This angled tube 64 is made of cast iron with the body 42 and is fed through a slot 65 formed in the wall of this body by the pipe 41 leading to the vaporizer. The shaft 48 is threaded and screwed into the threaded sleeve 50 so that the rotation of the shaft 48 controls the operation of the valve 63.

Thus the rotation of the shaft 48 simultaneously operates the two fuel control and air control valves.

A cup-shaped screen 66 is attached to pin 48 so as to surround valve 62 and the discharge end of tubing 64. This screen 66 is attached to pin 48 by means of a pin and is provided on one side with a groove in which is engaged a key 67, fixed vertically inside the body 10 of the carburetor, which prevents the threaded shaft 48 from rotating.

The operation of the device is as follows Two plugs 33 of lights 36 of the desired caliber having been introduced into the devices 28 and 29 to distribute the desired proportion of fuel to the burner and to the vaporizer, the valve 141 being open, the burner 21 being lit , the angular position of the member 46 having been adjusted so as to maintain a desired air intake when the fuel control valve is in the fully closed position, the device is started up by the partial opening of the device. the fuel control valve 62; and air ports 55, which allow the gas in the spindle to pass through the various conduits and provide the machine with an initial charge. The,

As soon as the machine is switched on, the pump activates and the air and fuel supply reaches the normal dosage almost immediately. The pump makes the fuel penetrate, on the one hand, into the heating chamber of the vaporizer and, on the other hand, directly above the burner.

The liquid fuel which rises through the chamber 19 is heated, gradually and slowly, then passes into the coil where it is superheated directly by the burner, so as to be completely vaporized upon injection into the mixing chamber.

Lumens 55 open as valve 62 approaches its fully open position.

If the fuel mixture is too lean, the screw 54 is actuated in a certain direction to bring the member 46 of the spool into a position allowing these ports to be further closed with respect to the closed position of the fuel control valve. On the contrary, if the mixture is too rich, the organ 46 can at any time be imparted to an additional displacement in the opposite direction.

To adjust the power of the machine one acts on the control member 60 of the valve 62.

When this valve is completely closed, no more fuel passes into the mixing chamber and the fuel retained in the coil and the tubes 40 and 41 continues to be heated by the burner, and is further gasified. When the fuel control valve 62 is reopened, this trapped, superheated and high pressure gaseous fuel rushes into the mixing chamber where it mixes with the air in this chamber and forms with it a titi poor mixture.

When the pump is at rest, a certain quantity of continuous oil ii, be supplied to the burner so as to maintain a pilot flame on the burner. The valve 14 <B> 1 </B> could be operated automatically, either by the machine bed itself or by a centrifugal-driven actuating mechanism such as is commonly employed in fuel supply lines. .
