Claims (12)

1. Gærcelle, der eksprimerer et protein omfattende en aminosyresekvens med mindst 80 % identitet, mest foretrukket 90 % identitet, allermest foretrukket 95 % identitet med SEQ ID NO. 2 og med xylose-isomerase-aktivitet i en gærcelle.
2. Gærcelle ifølge krav 1, hvor proteinet består af sekvensen ifølge SEQ ID NO. 2 og har xylose-isomerase-aktivitet i gærcellen.
3. Gærcelle ifølge krav 1 eller 2, hvor proteinet består af sekvensen ifølge SEQ ID NO. 8, eller af an aminosyresekvens med mindst 75 % identitet, foretrukket 80 % identitet, mest foretrukket 90 % identitet, allermest foretrukket 95 % identitet med SEQ SEQ ID NO. 8 og har xylose-isomerase-aktivitet i cellen.
4. Gærcelle ifølge et af kravene 1 til 3, hvor proteinet har optimal xylose-isomerase-aktivitet inden for et pH-område på 7,5 til 8,5.
5. Gærcelle ifølge et af kravene 1 til 4 omfattende et DNA-molekyle omfattende en DNA-sekvens, der koder et protein som defineret i et af kravene 1 til 4, hvor DNA-sekvensen er operabelt forbundet med en eukaryotisk regulato-risk sekvens.
6. Gærcelle ifølge krav 5, hvor the DNA-molekyldet består af sekvensen ifølge SEQ ID NO. 1 eller SEQ SEQ ID NO. 7.

8. Gærcelle ifølge et af kravene 1 til 7 omfattende et eksogent xylose-iso-merase-gen, der er funktionsdygtigt i gærcellen, hvor det eksogene xylose-isomerase-gen er operabelt forbundet med promotor- og terminator-sekven- ser, som er funktionsdygtige i gærcellen, hvilket fører til ekspressionen af et protein som defineret i et af kravene 1 til 4.

Fremgangsmåde til fremstilling af et fermenteringsprodukt udvalgt fra gruppen af mælkesyre, eddikesyre, ravsyre, aminosyrer, 1,3-propan-diol, ethylen, glycerol, β-lactam-antibiotika, cephalosporiner, biobrændstoffer, butanol, ethanol, mælkesyre, itakonsyre, foretrukket butanol, mest foretrukket ethanol, hvor fremgangsmåden omfatter de følgende trin: a) fermentering af et medium, der indeholder en kilde af xylose, med en gærcelle som defineret i et af kravene 1 til 9, og eventuelt, b) udvinding af fermenteringsproduktet.
