Abstract

These compounds are useful for inhibiting matrix metalloproteases and, therefore, for combating disorders to which MMPs contribute, such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, septic arthritis, periodontal diseases, corneal ulcers, proteinuria, aortic aneurysm disease, dystrophic vesicular epidermolysis, disorders that produce inflammatory responses, osterpenias in which MMP activity mediates, temporomandibular joint disease, demyelinating diseases of the nervous system, tumor metastasis, or degenerative loss of cartilage after traumatic joint injury, and coronary thrombosis from atherosclerotic plaque rupture. The present invention likewise relates to pharmaceutical compositions and methods of treating such disorders.
