- This difficulty is related in particular to the limits of the injection process and the difficulty of molding thin side walls while obtaining a high accuracy at the neck. It is also linked to the fact that until now, we have systematically sought to obtain a bottom and a side wall of the same thickness.
- the thermoplastic resin injected into the mold cavity gradually fills the bottom, the side walls and at the end of the neck flow. It is difficult to obtain a very precise neck if the thickness of the side wall is less than that of the neck because the injected resin cools faster at the side walls and prevents a sufficient filling of the neck. It therefore clearly appears that the limits of the thickness of the side walls, which can not be much lower than those of the neck.
- the patent application WO2005 / 066027 proposes to remedy the aforementioned problem with a preform formed of the assembly of two parts, the first part being the neck and the second part being the cavity formed by the side wall and the bottom.
- the two parts of the preforms are manufactured independently by injection molding.
- the invention overcomes the aforementioned problems; it allows in particular to obtain by blowing a preform containers with very thin side walls with a large variety of resin while maintaining a relatively thick bottom.

According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, these parts are assembled by welding; each of the parts having at least at the location of the assembly a surface layer for joining by welding. The parts can also be assembled by mechanical action (screwing, latching, interlocking, etc.).

- the neck and the bottom are advantageously molded by injection or compression.
- the sidewalls are extruded. It is advantageous to make the side walls from a film welded to itself to form a cylindrical body.

- a particularly advantageous embodiment of the invention consists in using a printed film to form the cylindrical body. Said film can be printed flat, which allows the realization of high quality decor at reduced costs.

- the method of blowing the preform consists in deforming only the side walls; the bottom and the neck are not deformed.

- the method of blowing preforms according to the preferred embodiment of the invention optionally comprises a preform heating phase, said heating phase being greatly reduced given the small thickness of the side walls of the preform. Only the side walls of the preforms are heated, the junctions between the side walls and the neck and the bottom are not heated. The preforms are then blown into a mold; only the side walls of said preform deform during blowing.
- the method of blowing the preform according to the preferred embodiment of the invention consists in not stretching said preform in the mold so that the height of the container produced is equivalent to the height of the preform. The side walls of said preform are therefore deformed radially only. It has been found that it is advantageous to blow these preforms with a deformation rate of less than 2.
