Abstract
The hardboard containing wood-based material, which is suitable in particular for floor coverings, has a formaldehyde content of at most 30 mg per kg of dry board weight. It is better if the formaldehyde content is at most 10 mg per kg of dry board weight. In the process for producing such hardboards, pulverulent wood-based material is brought to a specific water content. Then the particles are mixed with an internal impregnation agent and this mixture is, in at least one further operation, provided with a synthetic resin binder for hardening the entirety. This mixture is deposited as a cake and hot pressed. Synthetic resin binder, as a proportion or exclusively, in the form of urea-formaldehyde condensate with a content of up to 2.8 % by weight of free formaldehyde, based on the dry material, is added. A hardboard of this kind has at most a legally permissible content of formaldehyde.
