LA INVENCION SE REFIERE A UN PROCESO PARA FABRICAR UN PRODUCTO INTERMEDIO DE DMT Y A SU PROCESAMIENTO POSTERIOR HASTA OBTENER DMT DE GRAN PUREZA Y ACIDO TEREFTALICO DE PUREZA ALTA Y ULTRAPURO. EL PRODUCTO INTERMEDIO DE DMT SE FABRICA MEDIANTE LA OXIDACION CONJUNTA DE UNA MEZCLA QUE CONTENGA PREDOMINANTEMENTE PARA-XILOL (P-X) Y ESTER DE METILO ACIDO DE PARA-TOLUENO (P-TE) EN UNA FASE LIQUIDA CON UN GAS QUE CONTENGA OXIGENO. LOS ACIDOS PRODUCIDOS SE ESTERIFICAN CON METANOL, Y LOS PRODUCTOS DE ESTERIFICACION SE SEPARAN EN UNA FRACCION I RICA EN P-TE, UNA FRACCION II QUE CONTIENE MAS DEL 99% EN PESO DE DMT Y SUS ISOMEROS Y UNA FRACCION III RESIDUAL CON UN PUNTO EBULLICION ALTO, Y LA FRACCION I DE P-TE SE RECICLA A LA OXIDACION. LA FRACCION III RESIDUAL TIENE UN CONTENIDO EN DMT ENTRE EL 15 Y EL 70% EN PESO Y LA FRACCION I DE DMT SE PURIFICA MEDIANTE LA RECRISTALIZACION DEL SOLVENTE SIMPLE EN METANOL PARA PRODUCIR EL PRODUCTO INTERMEDIO DE DMT EN EL QUE EL HIDROXIBENZOATO DE METILO (HM-BME) Y ELTEREFTALATO DE METILO (TAE) JUNTOS SUMAN MENOS DE 200 PPM. EL PROCESAMIENTO POSTERIOR DEL PRODUCTO INTERMEDIO DE DMT A DMT ULTRAPURO SE EFECTUA MEDIANTE UNA SEGUNDA RECRISTALACION, EL PROCESAMIENTO POSTERIOR A ACIDO TEREFTALICO LAVANDO EL PRODUCTO INTERMEDIO DE DMT EN METANOL, HIDROLISIS, CRISTALIZACION Y, SI ES NECESARIO, LAVANDOLO POSTERIORMENTE EN AGUA.
