Abstract

Un procedimiento para preparar un éter de celulosa de bajo peso molecular, comprendiendo dicho procedimiento: (a) proporcionar un éter de celulosa de alto peso molecular de una viscosidad de aproximadamente 200 centipoises o más, en una solución acuosa al dos por ciento a 20oC; (b) poner en contacto el éter de celulosa de alto peso molecular con una cantidad de un ácido suficiente para despolimerizarlo parcialmente hasta un éter de celulosa de bajo peso molecular de una viscosidad de aproximadamente 100 cP o menor, a 20oC, en una solución acuosa al dos por ciento; (c) neutralizar parcial o sustancialmente el ácido por puesta en contacto del éter de celulosa de bajo peso molecular con un compuesto básico; (d) repetir las etapas (a)-(c) para producir dos o más tandas de producto discretas de éter de celulosa de bajo peso molecular, en las que al menos una tanda de producto discreta se neutraliza parcialmente a un pH de 6, 8 o menor; y (e) mezclar las dos o más tandas de producto discretas para formar una tanda de producto combinada de éter de celulosa de bajo peso molecular de un pH de 4 a 6, 8.
