Claims (9)

1. Procédé de production d'un acide carboxylique par réaction d'un alcool ayant un atome de carbone de moins que l'acide avec de l'oxyde de carbone dans un milieu réactionnel liquide contenant un catalyseur de rhodium, caractérisé en ce qu'on maintient, dans le milieu réactionnel, au cours de la réaction, au moins une quantité définie d'eau avec des quantités effectives de (a) un stabilisant du catalyseur choisi parmi des sels d'iodure qui sont solubles à une concentration effective dans le milieu réactionnel à la température de la réaction, (b) le dérivé d'iodure d'un hydrocarbure correspondant à l'alcool et (c) l'ester de l'alcool avec l'acide carboxylique.
2. Procédé de la revendication 1, où le sel d'iodure est un sel d'iodure d'un métal choisi dans les groupes la et Ila ou un sel d'iodure quaternaire.
3. Procédé de la revendication 2 où le sel d'iodure est un iodure d'un métal alcalin.
4. Procédé de la revendication 2 où le sel d'iodure est de l'iodure de lithium.
5. Procédé selon l'une des revendications 1-4 où l'acide carboxylique est l'acide acétique, l'alcool est le méthanol, l'ester est l'acétate de méthyle et le dérivé d'iodure est l'iodure de méthyle.
6. Procédé de la revendication 5 où la teneur en eau du milieu réactionnel est maintenue entre 0,1 % en poids et 20% en poids, la teneur en iodure de lithium entre 2% en poids et 20% en poids, la teneur en acétate de méthyle entre 0,5% en poids et 30% en poids et la teneur en iodure de méthyle entre 5% en poids et 20% en poids, le reste consistant essentiellement en acide acétique.
7. Procédé de la revendication 6 où on maintient, dans le milieu réactinnel, 1 à 4% en poids d'eau, 10 à 20% en poids d'iodure de lithium et 14 à 16% en poids d'iodure de méthyle.
8. Procédé de la revendication 7 où on maintient dans le milieu réactionnel 2 à 16% en poids d'acétate de méthyle.
9. Procédé selon l'une des revendications 1-8 où le catalyseur de rhodium est maintenu à une concentration de 200 ppm à 1.000 ppm calculée sous forme de rhodium.
