In this type of optical disk file system, along with image data or document data, index data necessary to search the data is added to the optical disk. For example, taking a document file system as an example, when an attempt is made to register Along with the document data, the document data's document name (1 category), author (1 publisher), publication date, etc.
Character data that can identify the document data is added as index data.

Conventionally, optical discs used in optical disc files have recording tracks formed in a spiral or concentric pattern, and one revolution of each recording track is divided into a plurality of sectors of equal recording capacity. Image data or document data and their index data are registered separately. Each sector is usually formed to have a recording capacity of about 1 to 2 kilobytes.

However, the amount of index data is usually about 200 bytes at most, and if one index data is recorded in a sector with a recording capacity of 1 to 2 kilobytes, the remaining space will be wasted. Recording density decreases. To explain this in more detail, on an optical disk, by specifying the address of a sector, data is written to the sector, and data written to the sector is read.

It is not possible to add data to the middle of a sector or to selectively read some data in a sector. Therefore, even if there is space for recording other data in the remaining portion where the index data has been written, it cannot be used effectively and becomes dead space.

Furthermore, the read speed of data from an optical disk is the product of the number of rotations of the optical disk and the length of one sector, that is, the number of sectors that the laser spot scans within a unit time. When recording, the time required to read the index data is wasted due to the dead space. Therefore, it takes a long time to read the index data and, furthermore, to search the image data or document data.

In order to achieve the above object, the present invention divides a recording area of an optical disc provided in an optical disc file into a recording area for recording image data or document data and a recording area for recording index data, and The recording capacity of each sector in the recording area is made smaller than the recording capacity of each sector in the recording area for recording image data or document data.

As mentioned above, the amount of index data is 20
Since it is approximately 0 bytes, by optimizing the recording capacity of each sector in the recording area for index data recording, index data can be packed and recorded in one recording trunk. Therefore, the recording capacity of each sector is effectively utilized, dead space is reduced, and the recording capacity of the optical disc can be substantially increased.

Moreover, by doing so, the number of index data scanned by the laser spot within a unit time can be increased without changing the rotation speed of the optical disc. Therefore,

FIG. 1 is a diagram schematically showing the difference in recording capacity between an area 15a for recording index data and an area 15b for recording image data or document data. The sign is displayed. As shown in this figure, when the optical disc of FIG. 3 is rotated in a rotation mode with a constant angular velocity, the recording capacity of each sector in the index data recording area 15a is equal to one image data or each sector in the document data recording area 15b. It is smaller than the recording capacity of the sector. Specifically, the recording capacity of each sector in the area 15b for recording image data or document data is approximately 1 to 30 kilobytes, as in the past, and the recording capacity of each sector in the area 15a for recording index data is approximately 1 to 30 kilobytes. The capacity is 2
It is formed around 00 bytes 1, for example, 256 bytes. In this way, in the case of an optical disc having a recording capacity of 16 kilobytes per track, 64 pieces of index data can be recorded in the index data recording area 15a.

The index data stored in the index data recording area 15a is sequentially read from the optical disc file 2, and the indexes therein are compared with the input index stored in the work memory 6, and an index whose index matches the input index is found. Only data is stored in the work memory 6. Of course, index data read from the optical disk file 2 is immediately written to the work memory 6, but index data that does not match the input index is erased, and index data that matches the input index is stored as is.

An optical disk is provided in which recording tracks are formed in a spiral or concentric shape, and one revolution of each recording track is divided into a plurality of sectors, and image data or document data and index data of each of these data are registered in separate sectors. In the optical disc file device, the recording area of the optical disc is divided into a recording area for recording image data or document data and a recording area for recording index data,
An optical disc file device characterized in that the recording capacity of each sector in the recording area for recording index data is smaller than the recording capacity of each sector in the recording area for recording image data or document data.
