Claims (1)

  1. 【実用新案登録請求の範囲】 光源からの光を液晶表示パネルに入射させて表
    示を行なう液晶表示装置において、 光源からの光を偏光方向が互いに直交する２つ
    の直線偏光に分離する偏光ビームスプリツタと、 この偏光ビームスプリツタで分離された２つの
    直線偏光のうちの一方の直線偏光の偏光方向をπ
    ／２ラジアン回転させる旋光素子と、 前記偏光ビームスプリツタで分離された２つの
    直線偏光のうちの他方の直線偏光と前記旋光素子
    で偏光方向をπ／２ラジアン回転された前記一方
    の直線偏光とを１つの光束に合成して前記液晶表
    示パネルに入射させる光合成部とを備え、 かつ前記液晶表示パネルの入射側偏光板の透過
    軸を、前記光合成部で合成された直線偏光の振動
    方向と平行にするとともに、 前記光合成部は、一面に多数の三角柱状プリズ
    ムを互いに連続させて平行に形成した光合成用プ
    リズム板と、前記一方の直線偏光と他方の直線偏
    光とを前記光合成用プリズム板に入射させる光路
    とから構成したことを特徴とする液晶表示装置。
