Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 本発明は、結合した研磨製品、例えば、研削といしおよ
びセグメントにおいて、および被覆製品、例えば、ベル
トおよびディスクにおいて有用である、焼結したゾルゲ
ルアル旦す研磨フィラメントに関する。
ゾルゲル、およびとくに種添加したゾルゲルアルミナ研
磨材は、数年前の導入以来、被覆および結合した研磨材
の用途の広い分野において他の主な研磨材を越えた実質
的な利点を実証した。このような研磨材は、一般に、変
化する量の添加剤、例えば、MgOまたはZrO,をま
た含有することができる、水和アルミナゲルを乾燥およ
び焼結することによって作られる。乾燥した材料を焼結
の前または後に破砕して、所望の大きさの範囲の、不規
則なブロック状の多結晶質研磨グリッドを得る。
グリッドは後に結合または被覆した研磨製品、例えば、
研削といしまたはセグメントまたはベルトまたはディス
ク中に組み込むことができる。
米国特許第4.314.827号(Leitheise
rら)は、直径が5〜10ミクロン程度である不規則な
「スノーフレーク(snowflake) Jの形状の
アルフッ Al、0゜結晶を焼結したグリッドが含有す
るような方法で作られた研磨グリッドを開示している。
「スノーフレーク」のアームの間および隣接する「スノ
ーフレーク」の間の空間は、他の相、例えば、微細な結
晶質のアルミナマグネシアスピネルにより満たされてい
る。

Claims (16)

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 1. 2ミクロンより大きくない大きさを有する焼結し
    たアルファアルミナの結晶から構成され、前記粒子は実
    質的に均一な断面、2mm以下の直径、少なくとも1.
    0の平均のアスペクト比および少なくとも16GPaの
    硬度を有することを特徴とする、焼結したゾルゲルアル
    ミナに基づく研磨フィラメント。
  2. 2. 1cmより小さい長さを有する、上記第1項記載
    の研磨フィラメント粒子。
  3. 3. 1.5〜25のアスペクト比、0.0001mm
    〜2mmの直径を有し、そして前記アルファアルミナの
    結晶は1ミクロンより大きくない大きさを有する、上記
    第2項記載の研磨粒子。
  4. 4. 前記粒子の少なくとも80%は、一般に0.4ミ
    クロンより大きくない大きさを有する等軸の結晶からな
    る、上記第2項記載の研磨粒子。
  5. 5. 理論密度の少なくとも95%の密度を有し、そし
    てジルコニア、チタニア、マグネシア、ハフニア、セリ
    ア、スピネル、ムライト、二酸化マグネシウム、これら
    の酸化物の前駆体、およびそれの混合物から成る群より
    選択される酸化物の1〜50重量%を含む、上記第2項
    記載の研磨粒子。
  6. 6. 前記アルファアルミナの結晶は1ミクロンより小
    さい大きさを有する種添加したアルファアルミナの結晶
    である、上記第2項記載の研磨粒子。
  7. 7. 前記フィラメントの形状のアルミナに基づく研磨
    材はより長い寸法において湾曲している、上記第2項記
    載の焼結したフィラメントの形状のアルミナに基づく研
    磨材。
  8. 8. 前記フィラメントの形状のアルミナに基づく研磨
    材はそのより長い寸法においてより合わされている、上
    記第2項記載の焼結したフィラメントの形状のアルミナ
    に基づく研磨材。
  9. 9. ガラス状成分を実質的に含まず、そして少なくと
    も8,000kg/dの破壊強さを有する、焼結したゾ
    ルゲルフィラメント。
  10. 10. 上記第1項記載のフィラメントで強化された金
    属またはセラミックの複合体。
  11. 11. 工程: 1ミクロンより小さい水和アルミナ粒子のゲル化分散液
    を準備し、 前記ゲル化分散液をフィラメントに造形し、前記フィラ
    メントを乾燥し、 前記乾燥したフィラメントを1090℃〜1500℃の
    温度に選択した時間の間焼成して前記フィラメント中の
    アルミナをセラミック物体に転化し、前記セラミック物
    体の主要な部分は約2ミクロン以下の大きさのアルファ
    アルミナの結晶から構成されいる、 からなることを特徴とする、約2ミクロン以下の大きさ
    を有するアルファアルミナの結晶を含有する、焼結した
    アルミナに基づくフィラメント物体を製造する方法。
  12. 12. 前記ゲル化分散液は、焼結の時アルファアルミ
    ナへの前記水和アルミナ粒子の急速な転化を促進するた
    めに有効量の1ミクロンより小さい種粒子を含み、前記
    アルファアルミナの結晶は約1ミクロン以下の結晶大き
    さを有する、上記第11項記載の方法。
  13. 13. 前記アルファアルミナの結晶は約0.4ミクロ
    ン以下の結晶大きさを有する、上記第11項記載の方法
  14. 14. 前記種粒子は、アルファアルミナ、アルファ酸
    化第二鉄、ガンマアルミナ、酸化クロム;アルファアル
    ミナ、ガンマアルミナ、酸化クロム、およびアルファ酸
    化第二鉄の前駆体;およびそれらの混合物から成る群よ
    り選択され、そして種粒子は約0.5〜約10重量%の
    量で存在する、上記第11項記載の方法。
  15. 15. ゲル化分散液の前記造形は押出しにより実施す
    る、上記第11項記載の方法。
  16. 16. 前記ゲル化分散液の造形は紡糸により実施する
    、上記第11項記載の方法。
