【発明の詳細な説明】
発明の背景 本発明は一般に使い捨て吸収物品に関し、更に
詳細には生理用パツドおよび類似品に関するもの
である。なお更に詳細には、本発明は、その内面
に接着された繊維の層を有する開口された成形フ
イルムのトツプシートを有する生理用パツドに関
する。更に、本発明は、トツプシートと吸収芯と
の間に介装されたエンボスされかつ開口されたフ
イルムを有し、かつ生理用パツドの周辺部の回り
に設けられたチヤンネルを与えるへりを有する生
理用パツドに関する。 使い捨て吸収物品は従来技術で周知であり、そ
して多くの用途を有する。例えば、使い捨ておむ
つは屎尿を吸収かつ含有しようとし、包帯は血液
及び他の体液を吸収かつ含有しようとし、一方生
理用パツドは月経流体および他の膣分泌物を吸収
かつ保持しようとする。各場合において使い捨て
吸収物品は液体を吸収かつ保持し、それによつて
液体が液体排出の領域付近を汚したり、汚染した
りするのを防止する。 一般に、使い捨て吸収物品はすべて同一の基本
構造、即ち使用者が接触する液体透過性トツプシ
ートと液体不透過性バツクシートとの間に包まれ
た吸収芯を有する。従来技術は基本的なトツプシ
ート、バツクシート、および吸収芯の配置以外に
多数の変形および要素を教示している。各々の変
形または追加の要素は、使い捨て吸収物品の特定
の特性を改善することに向けられている。 理想的には、使い捨て吸収物品は、液体をトツ
プシートに迅速に透過させかつ液体をトツプシー
トに逆流させない良好な裏抜き（strike
through）特性および再湿潤特性（rewet）を示
す。また、使い捨て吸収物品が使用者の接触する
清浄表面（即ち、トツプシートは汚れておらず、
液体を保持しない）を与え、そして使い捨て吸収
物品が使用時に使い捨て物品の近辺にある衣服、
衣類、寝具類等を保護するのも有利な特性であ
る。 それ故、本発明の目的は、改善された再湿潤特
性および裏抜き特性を有する使い捨て吸収物品を
提供することにある。 本発明の他の目的は、改善された表面清浄性お
よび汚れ抵抗性を有する使い捨て吸収物品を提供
することにある。 本発明の更に他の目的は、液体排出の領域付近
の汚れに対する改善された保護性を与える使い捨
て吸収物品を提供することにある。 本発明のこれらの目的および他の目的は、以下
の記載から明らかになるであろう。 発明の要約 本発明によれば、使い捨て吸収物品、例えば生
理用パツドは、吸収芯を液体透過性トツプシート
と液体不透過性バツクシートとの間に包むように
して作られる。 好ましいトツプシートは、約0.030インチ
（0.075cm）よりも小さい厚み、少なくとも35％の
開口面積率を有し、開口部の数の25％未満が
0.025インチ（0.064cm）に等しいかそれよりも小

ようとする使い捨て吸収物品である。 第１図は本発明の生理用パツド１０の斜視図で
ある。しかし、第２図から最も良くわかるよう
に、生理用パツド１０は基本的には液体透過性ト
ツプシート１２、液体不透過性バツクシート１
４、および吸収芯１６を具備する。吸収芯１６は
それぞれ第一対向面１８および第二対向面２０を
有する。バツクシート１４は第一対向面１８上に
設けられ、そして生理用パツド１０を着用した際
に使用者の下着と接触する。トツプシート１２は
第二対向面２０上に設けられ、そして生理用パツ
ド１０を着用した際に使用者の体に向けて位置さ
れる。 トツプシート１２は好ましくはバツクシート１
４に貼着される。バツクシート１４は、生理用パ

る好ましい方法および配置においては、類似の形
状を有するが吸収芯１６よりも一般に大きいトツ
プシート１２およびバツクシート１４が製作され
る。このように、トツプシート１２およびバツク
シート１４は、それぞれ吸収芯１６の横方向の端
部２２および縦方向の端部２４から外方に延出す
るトツプシートフラツプ２６およびバツクシート
フラツプ２８を有する。トツプシートフラツプ２
６はバツクシートフラツプ２８に貼着され、それ
によつて吸収芯１６を囲む薄くかつ可撓性のへり
（berder）２９を形成する。吸収芯１６を囲むこ
とは、へり２９に形状保持性を与えることにな
る。このように、使用時に、へり２９はそれ自体
の上に折曲せず、むしろ吸収芯１６の横方向およ
び縦方向の端部２２および２４からそれぞれ外方
に突出したままである。 へり２９、へり２９を有していない同一の使い
捨て吸収物品に比較して液体排出の領域付近の汚
れに対する改善された保護性を与える。従つて、
へり２９は、吸収芯１６によつて吸収されない排
出液体が液体排出点の付近にある衣服、衣類、寝
具類等を汚さないようにするのに十分な幅を有す
る。例えば、好ましい具体例の生理用パツド１０
においては、へり２９は生理用パツド１０が着用
者の下着の股の部分を覆うのに十分な幅を有す
る。へり２９は、好ましくは吸収芯１６の横方向
の端部２２および縦方向の端部２４から約0.125
インチ（0.318cm）〜約1.0インチ（2.54cm）、最も
好ましくは約0.25〜約0.75インチ（約0.63〜約1.9
cm）の距離外方に延出する。へり２９は均一の幅
を有することもでき、または生理用パツド１０の
周辺部の回りで異なる幅を有することもできる。 へり２９は使用時に形状保持性を有するが、薄
く、可撓性で、心地良く、そして液体排出点付近
の形状、例えば体の泌尿生殖器の領域の形状と容
易に同じ形になる。へり２９は、前記のように接
着することによりトツプシートフラツプ２６をバ
ツクシートフラツプ２８にへり２９の幅全体に沿
つて貼着することによつて形成される。しかし、
へり２９の特に好ましい配置を第２図および第３
図に示す。 第２図および第３図に示されるように、トツプ
シートフラツプ２６はバツクシートフラツプ２８
に内方シーム５０および外方シーム５２の両方に
沿つて貼着され、チヤンネル５４を形成する。内
方シーム５０は、吸収芯１６に隣接して設けら
れ、そして外方シーム５２はそれから離間してお
り、好ましくはへり２９の端部に隣接して設けら
れる。それ故、チヤンネル５４は、内方シーム５
０、外方シーム５２、トツプシート１２およびバ
ツクシート１４によつて区画されている。トツプ
シート１２およびバツクシート１４は、内方シー
ム５０と外方シーム５２との間では互いに貼着さ
れていない。チヤンネル５４の幅は、少なくとも
0.0625インチ（0.159cm）、好ましくは少なくとも
0.5インチ（1.3cm）である。 内方シーム５０および外方シーム５２は、吸収
芯１６を完全に囲み、液体不透過性とし、それに
よつて液体が生理用パツド１０の端部に向けて横
方向に移行するのを防止する。 トツプシート１２をバツクシート１４に貼着す
る如何なる周知の技術を使用することにより、内
方シーム５０および外方シーム５２を形成でき
る。例えば、各種の周知の加熱結合法または接着
法を使用できる。最も好ましい具体例において
は、超音波結合の技術分野で周知の装置および方
法を使用して、トツプシートフラツプ２６はバツ
クシートフラツプ２８に内方シーム５０および外
方シーム５２に沿つて超音波結合される。 バツクシート１４は、液体を通させず、そして
吸収芯１６によつて吸収された液体が生理用パツ
ド１０の着用者の下着を汚すのを防止する。好ま
しくは、バツクシート１４は厚さ約0.0005〜約
0.002インチ（約0.012〜約0.051mm）のポリエチレ
ンフイルムであるが、他の可撓性の液体不透過性
物質も使用できる。「可撓性」なる用語は、変形
自在でありかつ人体の形状および輪郭と容易に同
じ形になる物質を意味する。 第２図から、吸収芯１６はトツプシート１２と
バツクシート１４との間に配設されかつそれらに
よつて囲繞されていることがわかる。吸収芯１６
は一般に圧縮可能であり、順応性があり、そして
使用者の皮膚に刺激を与えない。吸収芯１６は各
種の大きさに作られ、そして使い捨て吸収物品に
通常使用されかつ液体を吸収保持できる各種の材
料、例えば吸収性発泡体から作られる。他の材
料、例えば多数層のしぼ寄せセルロース詰め物ま
たは均等物も吸収芯１６用に使用できる。しか
し、材料の吸収能力は、吸収物品の意図する用途
における所定量の液体を吸収かつ保持するのに十
分でなければならない。約40mlにものぼる多くの
月経の排出物を吸収しようとする生理用パツド１
０の好ましい具体例においては、一般にエアフエ
ルト（airfelt）と称される粉砕木材パルプ約６ｇ
を使用したところ、良好な結果が得られた。 吸収芯１６の形状および寸法は、生理用パツド
１０の着用者の泌尿生殖器部分に合うように選択
される。形状および寸法は変更できるが、長さ約
7.5インチ（19.2cm）、最大の幅約2.5インチ（6.4
cm）および中間点における最小の幅約2.0インチ
（51cm）を有する一般に砂時計形の吸収芯１６が
良好な結果を与えることが判明している。しか
し、他の寸法および他の形状（例えば、矩形）も
吸収芯１６用に使用できる。 トツプシート１２は液体透過性であり、そして
生理用パツド１０の着用者の皮膚に接触する。ト
ツプシート１２は変形自在であり、柔軟な感じを
与え、そして着用者の皮膚に刺激を与えない。更
に、トツプシート１２は、好ましくは液体透過性
ウエブの周知の製造法を使用して疎水性物質から
作られる。従つて、トツプシート１２は例えばカ
ード法、スパンボンド法、溶融発泡法またはエア
レイ法によつて得られ、そして繊維状であること
もでき、または連続フイルム（開口されたもの
か、エンボシングされかつ開口されたものかのい
ずれか）であることもできる。 好ましいトツプシート１２は開口された疎水性
フイルムである。第４図は、開口された疏水性成
形フイルムである特に好ましいトツプシート１２
を示す。「疎水性」物質なる用語は、液体が広が
らず、そして約50゜よりも大きい接触角を有する
物質を意味する。接触角は、２つの界面の通常の
接合点における水／空気界面と水／固体界面との
間の水滴内の角度である。接触角は、周知の方
法、例えばエー・アダムソンによる「表面の物理
化学」（第２版、1967年）という本に記載の方法
を使用して求められる。更に、「成形フイルム
（formed film）」なる用語は、エンボスが設けら
れた重合物質の連続層であるトツプシート１２を
意味する。 好ましい開口された成形フイルムのトツプシー
ト１２は、本明細書に記載の方法によつて作ら
れ、そして複数の開口部３０（第４図）が設けら
れており、これらの開口部３０はランド部分３２
によつて分離されている。開口部３０の面積対ト
ツプシート１２の総面積の比率を100倍したもの
が、トツプシート１２の開口面積率（percent
open area）である。開口面積率が大きくなれば
なる程、トツプシート１２は液体を吸収芯に更に
容易に入れさせる。しかし、開口面積率が余り大
きいと、トツプシート１２の強度が低下する。 好ましい成形フイルムのトツプシート１２は、
少なくとも35％の開口面積率を有する。好ましく
は、成形フイルムのトツプシート１２は少なくと
も45％の開口面積率を有し、そして最も好ましく
は少なくとも55％の開口面積率を有する。トツプ
シート１２の開口面積率は、液体の通路として開
口しているトツプシート１２の％を示し、そして
トツプシート１２の透過性を示す。トツプシート
１２の開口面積率を求める多くの方法は当業者に
は明らかである。使用して良好な結果を与えた方
法を以下に記載する。 トツプシート１２の２インチ（５cm）平方のサ
ンプルを標準的な35mmの写真用ガラススライドマ
ウントに載置する。選択されたサンプルは、トツ
プシート１２の多孔度の代表であるべきである。
トツプシート１２の材料の多孔度が単一のサンプ
ルによつて代表されない場合には、以下の操作を
数個のサンプルについて繰り返し、そしてその結
果の平均値をとる。 サンプルを含む写真用スライドホルダーをスラ
イド映写機中に挿入し、そして通常のスクリーン
上に映写する。通常のスライド映写機を使用でき
るが、コダツク・コーポレーシヨン製の４〜６イ
ンチのズームレンズ（ｆ：35）エクタマー
（Ektamer）付きのエクタグラフイク
（Ektagraphic）モデルAF2を使用したところ、
満足な結果が得られた。映写機をスクリーンの中
心に向け、そしてスクリーンから垂直に約122イ
ンチ（310cm）の距離だけ離して置く。映写機を
スクリーンに垂直方向および水平方向に中心に置
く。 好適なカメラを使用して映像を写真にとる。例
えば、日本光学工業株式会社製のモデルF2（35
mm）のカメラを使用してｆ絞り８で２秒間露出し
たところ、良好な結果が得られた。カメラはミク
ロ・ニコール（micro−Nikkor）P1：3.5レンズ
（ｆ：55mm）を有し、そしてコダツク・コーポレ
ーシヨン製のベリカラー（Vericolor）5025型
Ｓフイルムで使用した。カメラをスクリーンから
垂直に約115インチ（292cm）の距離だけ離して置
いた。カメラをスクリーンの垂直中心線に沿つて
約３インチ（18cm）の距離変位させ、そしてスク
リーンの水平中心線に沿つてスクリーンの中心か
ら約４インチ（10cm）の距離変位させる。 映写サンプルの写真において、材料内の開口面
積は明るい領域と見えるが、材料の中実部分は暗
く見える。開口面積であるトツプシート１２の部
分は、写真中の明るい領域の部分を見い出すこと
によつて求められる。 写真法の正確さは、写真の明るい領域と暗い領
域との間のコントラストを増大させることによつ
て増加される。特に薄い半透明の多孔化プラスチ
ツクフイルムの場合には、コントラスト増大処理
が必要である。明るい領域と暗い領域との間のコ
ントラストは、例えばシヨツト・グラツセ・ベル
クス製の高コントラスト線フイルターNo.563156の
ようなレンズフイルターを映写機のバルブとサン
プルとの間に置くことによつて強められる。 トツプシート１２の各サンプルの写真から、開
口面積率が適当な方法を使用して求められる。確
立過程、例えばモンテ・カルロ技術が良効に働く
ことが判明している。従つて、一連のランダムな
点を発生させ、そして被分析の写真の少なくとも
12平方インチ（77cm2）を覆う透明シート上にプロ
ツトさせる。既にプロツトされたランダムな点を
有する好適なシートは、アドレツソグラフ・マル
チグラフ・コーポレーシヨンのプランニング・デ
イビジヨン製のプランニング・エアリアグラフ・
チヤート（Bruning Areagraph Chart）4849で
ある。 透明シートをトツプシート１２の写真上に置
き、そして明るい点（即ち、明るい領域を覆う全
領域の少なくとも半分を有するランダムな点の
数）を数える。明るい点対写真の領域内の点の総
数の比率を％で表示したものが被分析のトツプシ
ート１２の開口面積率である。 前記の方法は、写真を引伸すことによつて単純
化される。例えば、開口された成形フイルムのサ
ンプル用のネガを８インチ×10インチ（20cm×25
cm）の写真に引伸し、一方不織サンプル用のネガ
を16インチ×20インチ（41cm×51cm）の写真に引
伸した。不織サンプルは、前記方法の使用を困難
とさせる一面よりも多い面にある繊維を有するこ
とに留意すべきである。 前記方法以外の開口面積率の測定法は当業者に
は明らかであろう。トツプシート１２の開口面積
率を真に示す限り、これらの他の方法も使用でき
る。 開口された成形フイルムの好ましいトツプシー
ト１２の厚み（caliper）も重要である。トツプ
シート１２の厚みが余りに大きいと、液体が開口
部３０に蓄積し、そして吸収芯１６中に通らな
い。すると、トツプシート１２は汚れた外観を示
す。 開口された成形フイルムの好ましいトツプシー
ト１２は、約0.030インチ（0.075cm）よりも小さ
な厚み、好ましくは約0.025インチ（0.064cm）よ
りも小さな厚みを有する。トツプシート１２の厚
みは、標準法を使用することによつて求められ
る。例えば、アメス・コーポレーシヨン製のアメ
ス・マイクロメーター（Ames Micrometer）を
使用したところ、満足であつた。 開口部３０は、好ましくはトツプシート１２中
にランダムに分布した不規則な形状の開口であ
る。開口部３０の数の約25％未満が小さな相当水
力直径（EHD）を有するならば、開口部３０は
等しい大きさでも、異なる大きさでも良い。小さ
なEHDを有する開口部３０は、これらの開口部
の高い毛細管誘引力のため液体を誘引かつ保持す
る。トツプシート１２内の小さなEHDを有する
開口部３０の割合が25％以上であると、トツプシ
ート１２は汚れて見える。従つて、開口部３０の
数の25％未満は約0.025インチ（0.064cm）に等し
いかそれよりも小さいEHDを有する。相当水力
直径なる用語は、次式によつて定義される。 EHD＝４×Ａ／Ｐ EHD：相当水力直径 Ａ：開口部３０の面積 Ｐ：開口部３０の周辺の長さ 相当水力直径は、計算がなされる不規則な開口
部に類似の流体流動特性を有する円形開口部の直
径である。 特定の値よりも小さい相当水力直径（EHD）
を有する開口部３０の％は、トツプシート１２の
代表的サンプル内の各開口部３０のEHDを計算
することによつて求められる。特定の値よりも小
さなEHDを有する開口部の数を開口部３０の総
数で割り、そして100を掛けたものが、特定の値
よりも小さなEHDを有する開口部の％である。
各開口部３０のEHDは、使用される倍率を適当
に考慮するならば前記方法に従つて撮影された写
真から容易に計算される。写真をとるべきサンプ
ル上にスケールを置きそして写真でスケールを拡
大すると、EHD測定用の標準物を与えることが
判明している。 不織物質はフイルム物質とは異なり、しかも互
いに重なつた多数の繊維によつて特徴づけられ
る。特に、不織物質の繊維は物質の厚さ全体にわ
たつて互いに重なり（即ち、繊維は互いに上に横
たわり）、それによつて曲がりくねつた液体の流
路を生じる。従つて、不織物質内の開口部の25％
よりも多くが固有に前記の特定の値〔即ち、
0.025インチ（0.064cm）に等しいかそれよりも小
さい値〕よりも小さなEHDを有する。 開口された成形フイルムのトツプシート１２
は、成形フイルムの周知の製造法を使用して作ら
れる。好ましいトツプシート１２は、以下の操作
によつて作られる。 熱可塑性物質のサンプル、例えば厚さ0.0015イ
ンチ（0.0038cm）のポリエチレンフイルムをその
軟化点以上に加熱する。軟化点は熱可塑性物質が
成形される温度であり、そして熱可塑性物質の融
点よりも低い。加熱された熱可塑性物質を加熱さ
れた成形用スクリーンと接触させる。成形用スク
リーンは、好ましくは所望の開口径、パターンお
よび配置を有する開口されたワイヤメツシユスク
リーンである。真空を使用して加熱されたフイル
ムを成形用スクリーンに向けて引寄せ、それによ
つてフイルムに所望のパターンを形成する。真空
を依然としてフイルムに適用しながら、熱風のジ
エツトをフイルム上に通過させる。熱風のジエツ
トは、フイルムを成形用スクリーン内の開口部の
パターンに対応するパターンに多孔化させる。 特定の厚み、開口面積率および小さなEHDを
有する開口部の％を有する開口された成形フイル
ムをトツプシート１２用に使用すると、生理用パ
ツド１０は使用時に改善された表面清浄性および
汚れ抵抗性を示す。清浄性および汚れ抵抗性は、
以下の操作を使用して求められる。 合成月経流体は、オレンジからのパルプ約15ｇ
を９％塩化ナトリウム溶液100mlに添加し、そし
て約１分間混合することによつて調製される。牛
の結晶性アルブミン４ｇを塩化ナトリウム溶液に
溶解し、そして卵白25ｇと一緒に全血33mlを添加
する。均一になるまで混合物を撹拌する。如何な
る合成月経流体も使用できるが、経水の繊維状成
分および粘膜成分を擬似させることが重要であ
る。 各種のトツプシート１２の清浄性評点を評価す
る等級スケールを作る。その上に置かれたすべて
の合成月経流体を保持する基体を選択し、そして
数個の基体サンプルを作る。イー・アイ・デユポ
ン・ドヌムス製で商品名Ｔ−310で市販されてい
る坪量0.5オンス／平方ヤード（17ｇ／m2）のス
パンボンドポリエステル不織ウエブを使用したと
ころ良好な結果が得られた。異なる量の合成月経
流体を各基体サンプルの１インチ×３インチ
（2.5×7.6cm）の矩形部分に適用する。表Ｉのデ
ータを得るのに使用された等級スケールの場合に
は、８個の基体サンプルを合成月経流体０ml、
0.1ml、0.25ml、0.50ml、1.0ml、1.5ml、2.0mlおよ
び4.0mlで処理した。吸収芯を基体サンプルの下
に設けなかつた。それ故、基体サンプル上に置か
れたすべての月経流体は基体サンプル上に残つ
た。月経流体を乾燥させ、そして各基体サンプル
をそれぞれ０〜７の範囲の値に等級分けした。こ
のように、合成月経流体で処理されないサンプル
は０の値とされかつ清浄な表面であることを示
し、一方合成月経流体4.0mlで処理されたサンプ
ルは７の値とされかつ高度に汚れた基体であるこ
とを示す。 被試験トツプシート１２を吸収芯上に置き、そ
して合成月経流体4.0mlをトツプシート１２の１
インチ×３インチ（2.5×7.6cm）の矩形上に広げ
る。60秒後、トツプシート１２を吸収芯から取り
外し、そして乾燥させる。合成月経流体が１イン
チ×３インチ（2.5×7.6cm）の矩形上に均一に分
布するのを容易にするために、トツプシート１２
を吸収芯上に置く前に少量の合成月経流体（0.2
〜0.3ml）を矩形上に広げることができる。 汚れたトツプシート１２の材料を等級スケール
と比較して被試験のトツプシート１２の清浄性の
評点を求める。汚れたトツプシート１２は、等級
スケールを決めるのに使用された基体サンプルか
ら補間することによつて求められた清浄性評点と
される。 低い清浄性評点は、清浄な表面外観および良好
な汚れ抵抗特性を有するトツプシート１２を示
す。清浄性評点が大きくなればなる程、表面外観
の汚れが増大する。 サンプル１の清浄性評点が試験された他のサン
プルよりも優れていることが、表Ｉから明らかで
ある。 表Ｉからわかるように、サンプル１だけが前記
の所要の厚み、開口面積率、および小さなEHD
を有する開口部の数の％を有する。サンプル３お
よび６は不織材料であるため、固有に小さな
EHDを有する開口部の数の％が非常に高い。サ
ンプル２および５はサンプル１のように開口され
た成形フイルムであるが、サンプル２は所要の開
口面積率を有しておらず、そしてサンプル５は所
要の厚みを有していない。最後に、サンプル４は
開口されたフイルム（即ち、成形されていない）
であるが、小さなEHDを有する開口部の数の％
が所要限度以上である。厚み、開口面積率、およ
び小さなEHDを有する開口部の数の％が前記の
限定の範囲内であるサンプル１においてだけ、ト
ツプシート１２は清浄な表面外観および良好な汚
れ抵抗特性を示す。
【表】 上記の開口された成形フイルム（サンプル１、
２、５）は、特に重要な意味をもつ厚みのような
重要な三次元特性を有する構造に成形されたフイ
ルムであり、その製法の一例は前述のとおりであ
る。また開口されたフイルム（サンプル４）は単
に開口（opening）又は穴（hole）が設けられて
いるフイルムにすぎずその厚みは非常に小さく、
事実上ベースフイルムの厚みに等しい。 第２図および第３図に示されるように、好まし
い具体例の生理用パツド１０には薄層３６が設け
られている。この薄層３６は、トツプシート１２
の内面３４に均一に分散されかつ貼着されている
多数の個々の繊維３８からなる。内面３４は、吸
収芯１６に面するトツプシート１２の表面であ
る。繊維３８は適当な物質から作られ、そして好
ましくはトツプシート１２よりも疎水性ではな
い。例えば、ポリエステル、ナイロン、レーヨン
および綿の繊維を使用したところ良好な結果が得
られている。好ましい繊維３８は、周知の熱機械
的バルブ化法によつて木材から得られる。化学的
バルブ化法等の他のバルブ化法から得られる木材
繊維も使用できる。 繊維３８の長さおよび太さは変化しうる。すな
わち、太さ約15〜約40μおよび長さ約1.0〜約3.5
mmを有する繊維３８が満足であることが判明して
いる。層３６の重量も変化しうるが、１m2のトツ
プシート１２当たり少なくとも約1.5ｇの繊維３
８、好ましくは１m2のトツプシート１２当たり少
なくとも約3.1ｇの繊維３８を内面３４に均一に
分布させかつ貼着させなければならないことが判
明している。 以下の操作を使用してトツプシート１２の内面
３４に繊維３８の層３６が設けられる。繊維３８
をトツプシート１２に貼着するのに好適な接着剤
を内面３４に適用する。ローム・エンド・ハース
製で商品名ロープレツクス（Rhoplex）HA−８
で市販されているアクリル系結合剤を内面３４に
噴霧したところ、良好な結果が得られた。接着剤
の使用量は変化できるが、ロープレツクスHA−
８接着剤を使用した場合には１m2のトツプシート
１２当たり約６〜約12ｇの接着剤が好適であるこ
とが判明した。 接着剤が硬化する前に、繊維３８を内面３４上
にフロツク加工する。フロツク加工操作は、繊維
３８を篩中に入れ、そして所望量の繊維３８が内
面３４上に適用されるまで篩をトツプシート１２
で振ることによつて好都合に行われる。約0.066
インチ（0.17cm）の篩目の開きを有する篩、例え
ばダブリユ・エス・タイラー・カンパニー製のNo.
12タイラーメツシユ篩が満足な結果を与えた。 繊維３８の層３６が設けられたトツプシート１
２は、改善された裏抜け特性を示す。裏抜けは、
液体がトツプシート１２を透過するのに要する時
間の尺度である。トツプシート１２の迅速な液体
透過性（即ち、短い裏抜け時間）は、トツプシー
ト１２の表面に沿つて走行する可能性および吸収
芯１６によつて吸収される前に生理用パツド１０
の側部から液体が漏れ出る可能性を減少させるた
めに重要である。 液体がトツプシート１２を透過するのに要する
時間を測定する任意の好適な操作を使用して、ト
ツプシート１２の裏抜け時間は求められる。以下
の操作を使用すると満足な結果が得られる。 トツプシート１２の４インチ×４インチ（10cm
×10cm）のサンプルを吸収芯上に置く。この吸収
芯は好ましくは、吸収芯の種々の含水量によるデ
ータの変動をなくすために73〓（24℃）および50
％相対湿度において条件調整または貯蔵されてい
る。各試験サンプルの吸収芯は、0.7〜0.85ｇ／
cm3の密度を有する2.4〜3.0ｇの粉砕木材パルプで
ある。その中心に直径0.25インチ（6.3mm）の穴
を有する４インチ×４インチ（10cm×10cm）のプ
レート（800ｇ）をトツプシート１２上に置く。
穴はプレートの厚さ方向に横切り、そして約47ダ
インの表面張力を有する液体５mlが充填されてい
る。液体５mlがトツプシート１２を透過するのに
要する時間が裏抜け時間である。裏抜け時間が短
かければ短い程、トツプシート１２の裏抜け特性
を良好である。 前記の操作を使用して、開口面積率約42％、厚
み約0.021インチ（0.053cm）および相当水力直径
0.025インチ（0.064cm）以下の開口部３０約21％
を有する開口された成形フイルムのトツプシート
１２の数種のサンプルに、繊維３８の層３６を設
けた。各サンプルに適用された繊維３８の量を変
えたが、各サンプルの繊維３８は熱機械的パルプ
化法によつて得られた木材繊維であつた。このよ
うにして作られた各サンプルの裏抜け時間を測定
し、そして表に示す。前記の操作を使用して表
のデータを測定したが、ただし、表の注にも
あるように800ｇのプレートは使用せずに測定し
た。その代わりに、使い捨て吸収物品が荷重下に
ない場合には液体５mlを被試験のサンプル上に直
接滴下して使用条件を模擬させた。表からわか
るように、１m2のトツプシート１２当たり少なく
とも1.5ｇの繊維３８を有する繊維３８の層３６

【表】 表のデータは開口された成形フイルムのトツ
プシート１２のサンプルについて求められたが、
トツプシート１２の裏抜け特性の類似の改善が他
の方法（例えば、不織法）または他の材料（例え
ば、レーヨン）から作られたトツプシート１２に
ついても得られる。開口された成形フイルム以外
のトツプシート１２のサンプルに繊維３８の層３
６を設け、そして前記の操作および方法を使用し
て試験してそれぞれの裏抜け時間を求めた。これ
らのサンプルについての裏抜け試験の結果を表
に示す。 表から明らかなように、トツプシート１２に
使用された材料または製造法に関係なく、トツプ
シート１２に繊維の層３６を設けることによつ
て、かなりの改善が得られる。 また、第２図および第３図に示されるように、
好ましい生理用パツド１０はトツプシート１２と
吸収芯１６との間に介装された中間層４０を有す
ることがわかる。更に詳細には、第２図および第
３図に示された具体例においては、中間層４０
は、下面３４に貼着された繊維３８の層３６を有
する開口された成形フイルムのトツプシート１２
と吸収芯１６との間に介装されている。好ましく
は、中間層４０は、吸収芯１６の第二対向面２０
と隣接し、そして接着等の好適な方法によつてト
ツプシート１２に貼着されている。好適な接着剤
はイーストマン・ケミカル・プロダクツ・カンパ
ニーによつて製造され、そして商品名イーストボ
ンド（Eastbond）Ａ−３で市販されている。 第５図は中間層４０の端面図である。第５図か
らわかるように、中間層４０は複数のテーパー状
（先細り状）毛細管４２を有し、各毛細管は基端
開口部４４を先端開口部４６を有する。 先端開口部４６は吸収芯１６と緊密に接触し、
そして基端開口部４４は繊維３８の層３６と接触
する。更に、基端開口部４４および先端開口部４
６は、テーパー状毛細管４２を形成するように互
いに離間している。 中間層４０は、液体不透過性物質、例えば約
0.001〜約0.002インチ（0.0025〜0.0051cm）の厚
さを有する低密度ポリエチレンフイルムから作ら
れる。液体不透過性物質に、一般に米国特許第
3929135号明細書「テーパー状毛細管を有する吸
収構造物」に記載の方法で同様の大きさ、配置お
よび配向を有する複数のテーパー状毛細管４２を
形成する。従つて、テーパー状毛細管４２は、テ
ーパー角（第５図）約10゜〜約60゜、基端開口部の
寸法約0.006〜約0.250インチ（好ましくは約0.030
〜約0.060インチ）および先端開口部の寸法約
0.004インチ〜約0.100インチ（好ましくは約0.005
〜約0.050インチ）を有する。 内面３４に貼着された繊維３８の層３６を有す
る成形フイルムのトツプシート１２と吸収芯１６
との間に介装された中間層を有する生理用パツド
１０は、向上された再湿潤特性を示す。再湿潤値
は、吸収芯１６からトツプシート１２の外面に流
れる液体量の尺度である。使い捨て吸収物品の着
用者に不快を与えるので、トツプシート１２の外
面上の多量の液体（即ち、高い再湿潤値）は望ま
しくない。 使い捨て吸収物品の再湿潤値は、適当な操作を
使用することによつて求められる。使用した際に
良好な結果を与える操作を以下に記載する。 ４インチ×４インチ（10×10cm）の試験サンプ
ルを作り、そして好ましくはサンプルの異なる含
水量に基づくデータの変動をなくすために73〓
（24℃）および50％相対湿度において条件調整ま
たは貯蔵する。各試験サンプルの吸収芯は、0.7
〜0.85ｇ／cm3の密度を有する粉砕木材パルプ2.4
〜3.0ｇである。所定量の液体を試験サンプルの
トツプシート上に排出し、そして吸収芯中に透過
させる。約47ダインの表面張力を有する液体約30
mlをサンプルのトツプシート上に排出したとこ
ろ、満足な量であることが判明した。液体を吸収
芯内に均一に分布させるために、試験サンプルに
約0.25psi（1.7キロパスカル）の圧力を約３分間か
けた。所要の圧力は、単に重りを試験サンプル上
に置くことによつて生じさせうる。重りを除いた
後、２片の予め秤量した吸収紙、例えばフアツト
マン（Whatman）No.４紙を試験サンプルのト
ツプシート上に置く。重りを乾燥させて、それか
ら如何なる液体も除去し、そして試験サンプル上
に置かれている吸収紙上に置く。約２分後、吸収
紙を除去し、そして再秤量して、吸収された液体
の量を求める。吸収紙によつて吸収された液体の
量は、試験されたサンプルの再湿潤値である。 開口面積率約42％、厚み約0.021インチ（0.053
cm）および相当水力直径0.025インチ（0.064cm）
以下の開口部３０約21％を有する開口された成形
フイルムのトツプシートの数個の試験サンプルを
試験して、それらの再湿潤値および裏抜け時間を
求めた。これらの試験の結果を表に示す。 表からわかるように、内面３４に接着された
繊維３８の層３６を有する開口された成形フイル
ムのトツプシート１２を中間層４０と組み合わせ
ると（サンプル４）、裏抜け時間を犠牲にせずに
再湿潤値が向上する。繊維３８の層３６を有して
いない開口された成形フイルムのトツプシート１
２を中間層４０と組み合わせると（サンプル３）、
再湿潤値は良いが、裏抜け時間は許容できない程
長い。サンプル１および２は中間層４０を有して
おらず、そして高い再湿潤値を示す。
【表】 使用時に、トツプシート１２を着用者の体に接
触させた状態で生理用パツド１０を着用者の泌尿
生殖器の領域に位置させる。生理用パツド１０
は、周知の方法、例えば使用者のウエストの回り
につけられたベルトを使用するか、または着用者
の衣服に係留することによつて所定位置に保持さ
れる。生理用パツド１０を所定位置に保持する好
ましい方法は、接着剤のバンドをバツクシート１
４上に設け、生理用パツド１０を着用者の下着に
容易に取り外し可能な方式で貼着させる方法であ
る。 生理用パツド１０は心地良く、可撓性であり、
そして着用者の泌尿生殖器の領域と同じ形に容易
になる。更に、へり２９は薄くかつ吸収芯１６か
ら外方に延出して着用者の下着の股の部分を完全
に覆う。 生理用パツド１０を所定位場にあてると、月経
流体および他の膣排出物はトツプシート１２上に
排出される。開口された成形フイルムのトツプシ
ート１２は、排出流体を吸収芯１６中に透過さ
せ、一方着用者に対して清浄な汚れ抵抗性表面を
維持する。トツプシート１２の内面３４に貼着さ
れた繊維３８の層３６は、トツプシート１２の裏
抜け時間を減少させ、それによつて排出流体が吸
収芯１６に入る能力を向上させる。また、排出流
体は中間層４０中を迅速に通過し、そして中間層
４０によつてトツプシート１２への逆流が防止さ
れる。従つて、トツプシート１２は着用者に対し
て過度に湿潤した表面を与えない。 トツプシート１２を横切り、そして吸収芯１６
を超えて流れる排出流体は、へり２９と遭遇する
であろう。吸収芯１６によつて吸収される排出流
体は、液体不透過性内方シーム５０によつてへり
２９に達するのが防止される。それ故、へり２９
は吸収芯１６と一緒になつて嵩高を増大させずに
下着の汚れに対する保護性を与える。更に、へり
２９に遭遇した排出流体はチヤンネル５４内に入
りかつ保持され、そしてチヤンネル内では流体は
外方シーム５２によつて生理用パツド１０の端部
の外方に流れない。 本発明は具体例を参照して記載され、そして本
発明の範囲および精神から逸脱せずに変形および
修正を前記具体例中で施すことができることは、
当業者によつて理解されるであろう。 例えば、へり２９は、トツプシート１２に繊維
３８の層３６が設けられているか否かに関係な
く、そしてトツプシート１２が開口された成形フ
イルム、不織ウエブまたは他の液体透過性物質で
あるかどうかにさえ関係なく、着用者の下着の汚
れに対する保護性を与える。更に、繊維３８の層
３６を開口された成形フイルム以外のトツプシー
ト１２の裏抜き時間を改善させるのに使用でき
る。このように、カード法、スパンボンド法、エ
アレイ法によつて得られたもの、開口されたフイ
ルムまたは不織布であるトツプシート１２、また
は他の構造からなるトツプシート、または他の材
料からなるトツプシートに、その内面３４に貼着
される繊維３８の層３６を設けることができる。
なお更に、中間層４０を吸収芯１６の一部分の上
にだけ設けることもでき、または全く省略するこ
ともできる。

Claims (1)

  1. 【特許請求の範囲】 １ 液体を吸収し第１および第２対向面を有する
    吸収芯部材、上記吸収芯部材の上記第１対向面上
    に設けられた液体不透過性バツクシート、および
    上記吸収芯部材の上記第２対向面上に設けられた
    液体透過性トツプシートを具備し、 前記トツプシートは約0.076cm（0.030インチ）
    よりも小さな厚みを有する疎水性フイルムであ
    り、上記トツプシートは複数の開口部を有し、こ
    の開口部の数の約25％未満が約0.064cm（0.025イ
    ンチ）に等しいかそれよりも小さい相当水力直径
    を有し、上記トツプシートは少なくとも約35％の
    開口面積率を有している ことを特徴とする使い捨て吸収物品。 ２ 上記トツプシートが、少なくとも約45％の開
    口面積率を有する特許請求の範囲第１項に記載の
    使い捨て吸収物品。 ３ 上記トツプシートが、少なくとも約55％の開
    口面積率を有する特許請求の範囲第１項に記載の
    使い捨て吸収物品。 ４ 上記トツプシートが、約0.064cm（0.025イン
    チ）よりも小さい厚みを有する特許請求の範囲第
    ２項または第３項に記載の使い捨て吸収物品。 ５ 生理用パツドである特許請求の範囲第１項記
    載の使い捨て吸収物品。
