Abstract

PURPOSE: To limit a rush current, by controlling the turn-on phase of a power switch element by the charged voltage of a smoothing capacitor and advancing the phase stepwise and raising the charged voltage of the smoothing capacitor.
CONSTITUTION: AC power 1 is rectified to charge the smoothing capacitor 3 through a triac 7 to energize a load 4. When interlocked switches 5, 5' are closed, a capacitor 39 is charged through the smoothing capacitor 3 while the peak value of the sine waves of the AC power 1 is higher than the Zener voltage of a Zener diode 39. When the peak value is lower than the Zener diode, the charging is stopped and the capacitor 39 is discharged to supply a trigger current to the triac 7. Because the peak value of the sine waves at the time of starting discharging the capacitor 36 is controlled by the charged voltage of the smoothing capacitor 3, a current controlled to be stepwise is applied to the smoothing capacitor 3. Thus, an excessive rush current is prevented.
