PURPOSE: To obtain a character generator which can ensure the dot recording via the laser beam scanning and also can record freely the character to the symbol into one picture field of the microfilm in a negative or positive way.
CONSTITUTION: Display memory 2 memorizes 1-line equivalent input signal (a) of the character or the symbol which is memorized in the microfilm supplied via CPU1 into the display position in one line via address signal (g) of address counter 8. In addition, multiple negative/positive memory 10 is installed to memorize in which mode the 1-line equivalent data of each display position should be displayed, the negative mode or the positive mode. Then the following units are added: timing circuit 6 which cupplies the record start command U through CPU1 and switches clock selecting circuit 7; character generator 3; parallel-series converter circuit 4; and video selecting circuit 5. Then the display data at each display position is memorized in memory 10, and the signal is delivered from circuit 5 corresponding to the signal sent from circuit 6 which designates the negative or positive display position.
