Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I: (R1, R2 and R3 are H, alkyl, or aralkyl groups) and its salt.
EXAMPLE: D-α-(2,3-Dimethyl-5-isoxazolone-4-carboxylamide) benzylpenicillin.
USE: Antibacterials effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, panticularly bacillus pyocyaneus, having a wide antibacterial spectrum.
PROCESS: An α-aminopenicillin of formula II is condensed with a reactive derivative, e.g. an acid halide, a mixed acid anhydride, active amide, etc., in a proper solvent under cooling or room temperature to give the compound of formula I.
