Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the frictional loss at the plain surface of a sliding bearing and the metallic contact thereat due to lack of oil film by cutting out the central portion at the inside partly on the sliding surface of the plain bearing, forming a narrow portion thereat, and varying the load in response to the effective width of the sliding surface.
CONSTITUTION: Wide and narrow portions are formed in the effective width of the sliding surface of a plain bearing 5a(5b) to vary the sliding surface and width in response to the load variation to thereby prevent the frictional loss at the sliding surface. The narrow portion of the sliding surface is formed at the cut central portion of the effective sliding surface width to secure sufficient oil amount to from an oil film so as to thereby prevent the metallic contact due to lack of the oil film. A smooth curved line is formed between the boundary 12 of the wind and narrow portions and the intermediate portion between the cut portion 10 and the sliding surface to thereby prevent occurrence of cavitation.
