Abstract
PURPOSE: To make the input region of an image pickup device sufficiently larger than the size of a white blood corpuscle and to minimize the number of data to be used for recognizing the white blood corpuscle by detecting the center position of the white blood corpuscle so that the image processing region may be preset.
CONSTITUTION: An image pickup device 2 picks up an enlarged image by a microscope 1 in accordance with the vertical and horizontal synchronous signals from a pulse generating circuit 3 so that video signals may be fed to a signal processing unit 4 and a cell position detector 5. This detector 5 detects the lengthes in the X and Y axes and the corodinates of the video signals of a cell nuclei which are obtained from a ruster intersecting the cell nuclei of the white blood corpuscle. Moreover, the device 5 claculates the center position of the corodinates and determines the scan starting coordinates by the shift of a preset corodinate distance in the X and Y axes from the center position. As a result, the preset region in the periphery of the center position of the cell nuclei is designated as the image signal processing region ao that the calculations such as the extraction of the characteristics of the signals or the classification of the cells are accomplished in the processing unit 4 and get out at 6.
